Better - still not entirely convinced, but an improvement and going into the break with a win rather than off the back of five winless could be big.

For all that people hate Daka, and I accept he has some pretty serious flaws, I'm not sure anyone can really dispute that we look a better attacking unit with him up front than Ayew. James looks like a fantastic acquisition, Ramsey I thought was pretty lively when he came on, unfortunately the less said about Carranza the better so far.

I’ve been very vocal about the issues with Ayew as the no. 9 but, If anyone still says that,  then I don’t think I’ll be debating the issue any further.

If they can’t see it now they probably never will

But that doesn’t make it right that he’s got the decision wrong though?

Agreed, but a sensible pro should know enough to not let there be any doubt in the referees mind, especially relevant when it’s occurring against home fans.

It was but he shouldnt of been diving in, giving him that decision anyway

So what's a defender supposed to do, never tackle because its giving the ref a decision to make.

Its about time these fcuking useless refs were banned, it's a professional game and they should be better.

Best performance of the season. Still by no means a menacing and devastating force but the positivity in the 2nd half was improved. Even before the stupid penalty, on the back of a scrappy 10 min spell that they'd got on top, we were pushing and were so unlucky with that James shot.

Anyway, the penalty mattered little in the end bar more evidence of why are we sacrificing the development of a major talent in Nelson or even Okoli for them pair.

Winks and James were excellent, Monga was strong and full of swagger that a little bit of end product and would have been raved about. Still his best start of the 3-4 he's had this season.

Carranza so badly needed to bury that, i feel that will be the moment we point to that typified his spell here.

So important to get a win and not go 5 without one. Still so much work to do and decisions to be made by Marti but we're ticking over OK.

For the love of whatever you identify with, spend the next 2 weeks practising fcukin set piece deliveries, it's embarrassing Leicester.

Daka really offers more to the team. Pressing, occupying defenders, not dropping deep into the 10s space, creates space for the 8’s to run into.

Agreed

But on the same page, if Faes doesn’t make that action their winger runs into the box and gets pelted for that. The bloke can’t win sometimes.

Felt he had a poor game, but then forgot it all when he appeared out of nowhere for that acrobatic header after the crossbar challenge.

Our strikers are not good enough, and the fact that Daka is starting is worrying for our promotion chances.

I agree with Faes, he's been clumsy, Vestergaard is pretty important to how we play. I'd be all for Nelson alongside Vestergaard

Just playing as a proper striker makes the difference. He’s got his flaws but he has enough discernible strengths.

Early days yet but Carranza looks like the worst of Ayew and Daka lol

When Abdul did his cheeky attempt and nearly caught the keeper out (stupid crossbar) I cannot decide if I would rather he scored, or Daka managed to nod in the rebound!

I like Faes in he tries hard to not be beaten, but he does seem a bit wild in these moments as well.  I agree if he didnt make the challenge he would be getting moaned at just the same for letting the player beat him.  Most high profile retired defenders do state its better to do what you can to block if you feel if you dont there is a shot on goal.  There is never an assurance a penalty will be given, and quite often it isnt.

Daka will go on a scoring spree soon. He’s a massive flop for us and barely looks like a footballer 80% of the time but I’m convinced he’s a confidence player. He will get a lucky goal soon and all of a sudden won’t be able to stop scoring. Ayew could play in this division for the next three years and will struggle to score 10 goals in open play.

I’m not saying he played well at all but he’s getting a lot of stick firstly for giving the penalty away and when people are realising it’s a shit decision, it’s then “well don’t give the ref the decision to make”.

We are third in the league with the joint second best defensive record in the league even though according to some people on here we’ve deserved to lose every game because it’s cool these days to not praise literally anything about us.

Sign of the times, it’s easy to be cool by being negative, positivity is lame it seems,

Exactly. He helps us stretch the game.  He's not an effective talismanic striker, but he probably allows the wingers and midfielders to be MORE effective by creating a bigger space for them to play in.

Exactly, he’s relied on the referee to make the right decision… to which he didn’t. He clearly got the ball and I can’t understand how the ref could give a penalty in the position he was in anyway.

I actually came out of the match thread today as honestly its so frustrating to read from some people.....

"Sack him"

"Clowns"

Etc...etc.....

Marti had 2 weeks pre-season.....we are building....we have a full, fit squad, a good mix of experience and youth, he has changed things not only on the pitch but off it

Things take time but some of you are so unrealistic...

I'll take the draws and todays win and sitting 3rd in the table and only 3 points off of top! We are a building team so to me that is a brilliant start!

Come on Leicester

Typical that we have our best performance of the season the day my internet goes down and I’m unable to watch 😡

An enjoying all your reflections on it though. I think we are getting progressively better, and today seems to consolidate that from what I’m reading.

Good post and I agree with much of it.

The only bit I’m less convinced about is the CB dilemma. Vestergaard, in particular, has proven to be quite adept at this level.

In a side that dominates the ball Vesty can be crucial especially in a side that struggles for creativity. Admittedly, back in the Prem, he’s fairly useless in a side that’s playing on the back foot and without the ball.

Faes I’m less fussed about but, again, he is decent on the ball. He just has his regular brain farts.

Okoli and Nelson might better represent our future, but I’m not convinced they are our here and now. Admittedly, in Nelson’s case, I’m working with very little material to make an assessment and could easily be proven wrong if he were given a run in the side
