Make them all like Gloucester services on the M5

Motorway services are mostly shite as we all know. The toilets are usually gross.

I usually only ever stop if I need the bog. If I'm travelling a distance I take sarnies and a flask but I will use the car park to take that snack break.

Survey completed.

Let's face it, the fuel is always astronomical, the crappers are often Maze Prison Dirty Protest level and it's £2.30 for a bag of crisps.

No one goes to these places unless they absolutely have to.

I visit loads of services because of my job.

Welcome Break have massively upped their game over the past few years but they still have older sites requiring investment.

Moto and Roadchef sites are usually all frigged.

Extras are pretty good.

Gloucester and Tebay are next level.

Toddington needs flattening. As well as being like Hiroshima in ‘46, it’s full of thieving gypsies.

I am big believer in layout, setting and general vibes. For example, i have a soft spot for places like Clacket Lane Clockwise and Hartshead Moor, neither of which have the best facilities.

Tebay and Gloucester are good, but a bit pricey.

Pretty much every motorway services in the UK in inferior to offerings in Germany, France, Norway (and probably elsewhere)

Ease of access is another key factor for me. Stopping at Chester Services would add another 5-10 mins to the journey during heavy traffic after negotiating roundabouts, etc. to get on & off the M56, compared to somewhere like Warwick services which is straight in and out on the motorway slip roads.

If I do have the time, I'd prefer to stop at a decent pub/restaurant/cafe for a bite to eat a few mins from the motorway which breaks up a journey nicely.

Hard disagree. They are shite as well.

The ones in south Germany were beyond grim.

Gordano is horrific.   Mad that it is just couple of stops down from Gloucester and Michaelwood which both are decent enough.

This thread reminds me of a scene from Gavin and Stacey where all arrivals at family reunion had a discussion which service they stopped at.

Anyone ever seen Lancaster services and that weird tower that used to be a fine dining restaurant, very 1960s

The Greggs in the Pennine tower is nailed on to be a UNESCO heritage site.

Stop creating service stations that include either burger king or McDonald's, Waitrose or m&s, Greggs, Costa or Starbucks etc.

Sick of visiting them and they're all generic branded nonsense.

They don't need to be like Gloucester which is pretty expensive for many people, but just have good, normal wholesome food cooked on site and sold at a decent price.

TBF I feel much the same about the towns and cities of the UK which mostly could all be each other with all the same shops etc. Let's have places that feel different from each other.

Stopped at Gordona on the way to Cornwall last year. I was sitting with my feet out the drivers door and my daughter (18 months at the time) was standing showing me something, gust of wind blew the car door and wiped her out. Early hours the next morning she was being sick so off to Truro A&E we went at 4am….

After all morning there, nothing wrong with her head (our concern) and she had a sickness bug which proceeded to go round the family during the next few days.

I dislike Gordano also…..

As for your second paragraph, I never have been to Chieveley!
