Very good record in the championship and seems to take no prisoners. Would be a decent appointment. Millwall who are pushing for a playoff place? You wouldd have to ask the same question again, why would he want to come here? Previously when we were in the Championship you could have said because we had higher potential and a better budget. That is no longer true. We are a less appealing club than Millwall!! Edited 26 January by Merchant_Banker 1
teblin Posted 26 January Posted 26 January (edited) I can't work out the best option here. If its going to be King until the end of the season, say it now and let him get on with it. (not that I think that is the right option, though I don't think we'd be any worse off point wie if he got it in the summer) But Other than that, i'm just not sure they are going to get it right again. Mowbray would be ok until the end, Sunderland fan I know liked him. Other than that, it needs to be something that can generate some excitement. Which is why it wouldn't suprise me if the club tried to bring in some other "legends" alongside king. Edited 26 January by teblin
winteriscoming Posted 26 January Author Posted 26 January I mentioned him a while ago but we should look at Niels Frederiksen. Currently at Lech Poznan and is out of contract in the summer. Has a history of developing young players. Obviously these clowns won’t even know him or consider him. 1

Managers will always believe they have the ability to turn a failing big club around. I think he is attainable. 2

brookfox Posted 26 January Posted 26 January Top needs to print this off and put it next to his phone as a reminder for the next time he’s about to call Rudkin for an update on the search…
les-tah Posted 26 January Posted 26 January Were so bad and underperforming its surely a win win for incoming manager because we cant get any worse surely. Id take anyone until the end of the season who has a track record of getting a tune out of poor players. That was certainly not Marti as qpr seemed to improve when he left.

AjcW Posted 26 January Posted 26 January In terms of previous links Davide Ancelloti is available again after a stint at Botafogo (did have a big fall out with the board though ), wondering if perhaps he'll just slot back into the Brazil AM role for the world cup. You'd imagine Hassenhuttl is due another stint in England too, been spotted at EPL and EFL games recently. Also think Tomasson always ends up on our shortlists, did okay at Blackburn, flopped with Sweden.
Bptiger Posted 26 January Posted 26 January How about sacking the idiots who have given Jobs to the last 5 managers they have employed 1
burleighfox Posted 26 January Posted 26 January (edited) Big Nige to steady the ship please. Can't see it but that's the sort of person you'd need to liven this bunch of drips up. Edited 26 January by burleighfox 1
sm1 Posted 26 January Posted 26 January All we are now is just a big name, we've been hollowed out from the inside. We have no money, couldn't spend in the summer and won't do now in the winter. A points deduction hanging over us which could push us into a relegation battle. Realistically we're only getting an out of work desperate manager.
Vindaloo FOX Posted 26 January Posted 26 January We are in horrible dark times, we need a old war horse not some hipster manager, them days are gone for us. 2
daddylonglegs Posted 26 January Posted 26 January Ideal situation is Top looks inward (hahahahaha) and sacks Rudkin & appoints a DOF whose sole responsibility is identifying a manager for next season. In the mean time, full focus needs to be on staying in this division after the points deduction. Hiring a random manager that they clearly don't have a plan for is not the solution. Give King the job in some description, but hire someone to help him. A genuinely good coach who has some experience (A Shakespeare type character). We just need to get these players playing at about 60% of their capability (I'd wager they're currently at about 30/40%) and we will be OK.

OriginalRobboFOX Posted 26 January Posted 26 January “Realistic” is the key word. We are still paying the salaries of Cooper, RVN, and now Cifuentes. Let that sink in. Then consider we are paying 3-4 of our non playing 1st teamers the equivalent of Oxfords entire squads wage budget. We have no money. We won’t be luring any manager currently employed by another club. We have not a pot to pi55 in. Then considering “out of employment” managers… no matter who it is that is being touted, with the disconnect between fans and board/management/players, ANYONE is too much of a risk. Andy King’s shoulders is who the weight of this club, this season and this crop of players currently sits on. Fans will give him more time than the likes of Mowbray, Rowett, Warnock etc. and unfortunately for Kingy Top and JR know this. They will be spinning this as much as they can in order to buy time and good will - it’s by far the cheapest most sensible option for these clowns. The best that we can hope for is that they appoint a DOF in the way that Bassett helped Adams - someone like a NFP that can help Kingy. It’s way too soon for King - but NFP spoke highly of him and said when at Bristol he would make a brilliant manager one day. However, one day has probably come way too soon. 1

BenTheFox Posted 26 January Posted 26 January Ralph Hassenhuttl is probably the best option I've heard mentioned. Don't let the 9-0 sway your judgement. Most Southampton fans still regret letting him go.

SB87_LCFC Posted 26 January Posted 26 January I said previously when Cifuentes was due to be appointed the whole back room needed a re-shuffle. If Top has now seen the light by getting rid of the manager, DOF needs to be next. I said in the past you have ex-players who know the club in these types of roles so why not lean on them - Robert Huth has a football Directorship! Kingy will have the backing of the fans given his legacy, but there is a part of me that sees KP not holding onto him in the job until the end of the season, the only one they did it with was Shakey and the following year it didn't work out too well. They will have concerns over his legacy more so than the fact he actually might be able to turn it round for us. There just needs to be a clear direction and ideally not in the way of League 1!
