I think chants about wanting him dead or whatever they were is a bit OTT

Yes its OTT, but people put more effort in condemning these chants rather than adressing the crux of it all.

Chants like these dont appear out of thin air.

The club and its happy clappers should ask themselves why are the fans chanting this? Apply some critical thinking and work backwards to find the problem.

Oh that's alright then!

I was making the point all he does is play golf, and he's good. Nothing about it being ok or anything. Weird take!

You can separate understanding the reasons why, doesn't mean that kind of stuff is OK.

The club only made mention of the chants in isolation, completely failing to mention context and the last 5 years that have built up to this.

The statement is a red herring that distracts from the root cause of why.

I think we know the crux of it all. Top & Rudkin unpopular = fan unrest and OTT chants, it's not rocket science.

Do you think when Pearson told a fan to 'FOAD' that he actually wanted the fan in question to perish?

Doesn't sound like working with dedication and integrity every day!

You do know that its his son that plays golf everyday and not Rudkin,  and he is very dedicated to his golf getting his handicap down to +4 despite having only taken up the game about 4/5 years ago.  I expect he will turn pro when he has finished his studies.

Yeh but we all know the communication has been terrible from the club for years now...I agree. The club aren't going to put out a statement and say;

''Rudkin chants are terrible but don't worry we will do better I promise xx''

Doesn't detract from my point which you didn't quote - which offered balance in saying I agree the board are inept, and we should be protesting against this in the right way, but calling out for someone to die in the context of a football club is moronic tbh.

You’re right in what you’re saying here and I’m sure you’re also clever enough to know that this has pissed a lot of people off because of how bad communication has been in recent years.

Finally, thanks.

This will end up very much along the lines of when Top put out that statement a couple of seasons back about being the subject of abuse after all him and his family have put in to the club. It will be used to generate some sympathy and the toxicity will continue as anyone wanting KP out is met by stick from KPFC footsoldiers.

Rather than just engaging with fans and giving people an indication about the direction of the club, it ends up making the situation worse.

It's only a red herring if you treat it as one.

Thankfully I'd like to think majority of fans know things have been shit because of the shit people running the club. The statement doesn't detract from that?

Perhaps I'm looking for something that isn't there, but you could argue the club have jumped on this and released this statement, because it might paint a negative picture of anyone who is showing negativty towards the club?

We used to be a proper club where the manager would tell fans to die

Not just die. “Fook off and die”

Everything has already been said in this thread that I would have added - but my eyes keep getting drawn back to it.

The words “Club Statement” are just so rare. The article headline wouldn’t be any more compelling if it read: “ Unequivocal evidence of rocking horse sh1t found on the moon”

Here lies the problem.

They don’t like offensive and personal chanting. I don’t either and the vast majority of the fanbase wouldn’t. But these things exist in a vacuum. The absence of any proactive communication creates this and that’s why this latest intervention is just completely tone deaf to the concerns of the fans

Only seems like a few weeks ago that the general comments thread was inundated with comments agreeing with people being sent to prison for  inciting harm toward individuals & chanting of divisive, racist or hate-related bile 🤷‍♂️

Haven’t heard the chant, but the club statement really would have benefitted by acknowledging legitimate concerns for fan anger. As it does not it comes across as gas lighting, provocative and therefore unhelpful.

I think it’s fair to say that taken literally, the Rudkin chant is pretty abhorrent.

In the realms of football, where chants and songs are generally factually inaccurate, and exaggerated to get a reaction from their target, it’s crass and antagonistic, and not something I would personally join in with or think is acceptable. But let’s be real here, it’s not a genuine death threat against anyone.

The fact that this is the first time we’ve had any sort of statement from the club in literally years to me shows that they’ve spotted an opportunity to shape the narrative on this. It may backfire in their face, like telling a naughty child not to do something, and only serve to add fuel to the fire for many. But it will have the desired impact on some.

It seems as though the club have spotted an opportunity, and used the statement as a way to keep those starting to waiver on their support of KP on their side, and to lead them to not want to be associated with those on the anti KP side of the aisle.

Chants against Managers, Owners, Directors of Football etc don’t always have to be crude to be the most effective. You only have to look at how many join with ‘We want Rudkin out’ compared to ‘Rudkin’s a c**t’ to see this.
