There's just a massive self hating amongst this fanbase. Look for any chance to belittle Leicester. I sometimes think they wanted us to return to this level just so they're happy being little old Leicester.

Yep.

TBF Wigan aren't far off Leicester :D

By any metrics Man U, Man C, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are the top 5 this century.

Safe to say Leicester 6th and Spurs 7th... can't think of anyone but Wigan and Portsmouth for joint 8th as FA Cup winners...!

Any metrics other than the one he mentioned...

Genuinely change the name of the forum to SkyBluesTalk.

There's no way these people are Leicester fans.

"The plan is to appoint a new technical director to take control of recruitment and scouting."

Claude Puel in the role of Technical Director or similar has been talked about as a suggestion on here before. He had a good track record of signings as manager (overall), and also placed emphasis on youth development/integrating academy players into the first team. Granted, Puel hasn't had any experience at board level but given that he hasn't managed since 2021, he may well see his future in a role like this.

I'd rather appoint somebody with experience in that role or, a very similar role, than appointing somebody that did a mediocre job in a totally different role position 6 years ago.

Wont be long before people start suggesting Wes Morgan

Pearson, Huth, Morgan etc etc. We're in this mess partially because we just promote from within too often.

Rudkin - academy coach > academy manager > academy director > director of football and we're supposed to believe we did a thorough job recruiting for each of those positions and he happened to be the best every time? Current FD was promoted from within. The U21 managers tend to be bumped up a level.

To be fair Huth has taken the relevant degree/qualifiction which is where a lot of the ex-footballers start on their TD/DoF path. He was also very vocal at the reunion night, he would only take a role he felt was worth it which probably eludes to his spell as a loan manager.

Eh.

He's right that our fans have always acted like we're tinpot. In a way, as frustrating as it is, I sort of like it. We have the attitude of perpetual underdogs and I'd prefer that to the insanity of Forest or Leeds fans that will always think they're massive.

We're a scruffy little Midlands club and we know it, even though we're - by a distance - the most succesful "Of The Rest" club in the country in the Premier League era, having won silverware under two separate regimes.

It's all irrelevant to this actual topic though isn't it? Someone is going to take this job based on what potential they see and what they've got to work with to do it. Absolutely none of us have the foggiest idea what the mid and long term financial prospects of our club are and, as much as people can be cynical about this, we aren't really going to be able to lie to potential applicants about that.

If our current situation really is temporary and we're a year or so away from throwing off the PSR shackles and spending to the moon then, sure, maybe some elite, world class director rocks up wanting the job. Seems unlikely though. Probably more the case we'll poach someone middling off a Football League club and they'll come in and run damage control for Top while he slowly pumps in less and less to the club because he can't afford it anymore.

Either way, nobody is taking the job based on history.

I like Huth and would be happy with appointment because he'd pull no punched but I'd rather somebody with a demonstrable track record.

We appointed Glover through a recruitment agency IIRC, so it won't be a focussed head hunt anyway.

this is the same as advocating for Pearson in the position. Yes, their records in terms of putting progression plans in place suggests they might be able to adapt well to this sort of role, but if we're serious it should be someone who is actually experienced as a technical director with a proven track record of success

Some of you lot take yourselves way too seriously on here.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be proud of our trophy achievements this century.

It's just the team you compared our trophies to (Wigan) just happen to be one of the very few other clubs to have won major trophies this century lol

You won’t get far with common sense like that!

People said the same when he was loans manager and yet that was a complete failure

Loans manager role is completely peripheral tbh

If your honest to god suggestion for a technical director is the club approaching Claude Puel, you should delete the Internet entirely from every device you own and never come back.

It's proper weird, loser mentality. Those people just accept anything, including relegation.
