Moroccan federation threatening legal action because Senegal left the pitch... all getting very ridiculous, like you're not getting a trophy awarded through the courts

I think some form is abuse is the only reason I'd back a team to leave the field. Has to be a rule on this? Can't just wait for them to come back.

Should've just taken the penalty, Diaz would probably have still missed.

The result has now been overturned with it being given as a 3-0 win to Morocco due to the forfeiture rule.

Total farce.

****ing hell.

We see huge anger from African players/pundits that the AFCON isn't held in the same tiers as Euros etc, and then shit like this happens.

May be missing something obvious but how can you forfeit a game that was completed?

CAF have been distancing themselves from the ref and ready to throw him under the bus for a while.

Sky Sports:

"The Confederation of African Football said they condemned the "unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials" during the final."

So they will be saying now the ref was shit at his job and should have just declared it forefit. He didn't, so they now are. Sets a lovely precisent that does.

It really felt alligned for Morroco to win however you spin it. The shit with a ball boys and the towel was just farcical. They got fined for that in the end, but got some other fines dropped or other punishments reduced. Corruption at its finest.

That's it.  That's exactly what we want.

The outcome of tournaments decided via sporting adjudication panels, just like when Grandad fell in love with the game.

Co-hosts of the next World Cup by the way. Watch your towels!

It’s been rumoured that they’ll host the final in their new 115,000 stadia. It was part of the reason they’ve (without consultation) moved AFCON to every fours years because that’s what Infantino wants. Otherwise it makes no sense because it’s obviously their biggest money maker and if held at the same time as Euros and the Copa

America will not have as many viewers so less sponsorship and won’t be able to be held in most of the continent due to the weather.

I somehow don't think Senegal players will be handing back there winners medals. Looking back now makes you think they should abandoned the game there and then.

I'd go one further and conveniently 'lose' the trophy

Sure this isn't the end of the saga but might feel quite hollow being awarded the title like this even if it's the right call.

Apparently Senegal could have been disqualified on the night for walking off.

Basically Senegal had two decisions go against them late on in a game marred with controversy.

However it was the inconsistency refereeing, excessive time added on and player clashes that ramped up the attitude of the game.

We can all debate the two major decisions and I still stand by I thought the disallowed goal was harsh but the penalty is one of those that may, or may not be given (albeit I do think he’s dived).

They walked off though and that should have ultimately got them disqualified on the night of the game under the laws.

The officials lost control, however you’d debate they didn’t have it under control all tournament.
