That's what we paid for him in 2021, looks bad on paper but if you account for inflation, add in his contribution to the success of the club etc. then a straight 17 million pound loss is actually great business. Obviously the 20 million in wages he's earnt since he's been here can make the deal look worse than it is but don't let that skew your logic - if somebody had come up to you in July 2021 and said this guy is ONLY going to cost us 37 million English pounds over the next 5 years and by the time we offload him we'll be that good that he can't even break into our team you would have snapped their hand off. 3
