Fatawu and Mavididi to play as actual wingers with Vestagard up top as a target with the no.9 shirt

Save our season JV

🤣 JV9 saves us again and we have our J V 9 back 😝😝

LOL. Joking aside, he was our best defender (appreciate that's not saying a huge amount given our defensive record) before he got injured and scored a few crucial goals. He actually looked like he cares as well.

Suspect he comes in as well as soon as he's fit alongside Lascelles. The interview yesterday said a huge amount, it's going to be attritional from now on with a focus on experience.

Our midfield needs an extra body in there. Our defence gets exposed far too easily. I totally agree with you re a midfield of winks, Skipp and James. We don’t need a 10 role, this is a luxury we can ill afford in our position.

And in recent games whoever the 10 is has offered nothing.

He has no idea what he is doing - easy to talk after the lord mares show - his team selection Tuesday and yesterday alone shows he has absolutely no clue

Seems all managers have a way of talking in press conferences and post match interviews. Seem to make sense, then after 1 or 2 of these then you realise they are saying the same crap over and over again. Rowett no different. His 'fight' comments are no different to Rodgers talking about 'intensiteeeee' every week. Same words, different week.

Feel we've hired another wrongun'.

He’ll have to grow some balls next Saturday and make the right decisions! Can’t say I need pick players that I can trust then go pick the same starting 11

I hope that means no more Ayew!

Who can you point to for consistency? Apart from JJ and Fatawu (who is consistently unpredictable) I have a hard time naming anyone. Skipp? Nelson? Not even the keeper and that's usually the easiest position to name.

Neither Daka nor Ayew. Neither Ricardo nor Hamza. Neither Mavididi nor Monga. We're up shit's creek looking for consistent performers. Can we just go FIFA and play 4-1-2-1-2? Put anyone anywhere? All out attack, sweeper keeper, CB up front?

Don't mess about Gary, hook anyone at half time you want. If it's that or relegation I'd much rather embarrass a player who I think is underperforming...

One thing that absolutely dumbfounds me is the absolute reliance of 4 at the back, 3 in midfield (in a one defensive 2 box to box or 2 defensive and 1 attacking), 2 wingers, 1 forward...

... we have done this exclusively for years, under numerous managers, with our defensive frailties not a single manager has thought, this shape is not working, lets give 3 at the back a try (or maybe 2 up front).... and I know that we probably haven't got the personnel for that, but at this point continuing to do the same thing and staring down the barrel of another relegation and the actual abyss. Why not try something a little different....

Take Saturday for example, losing at home 1-3 to a side that is 0-12 on aggregate in their previous 4 games, we are chasing the game, we ultimately finish the game with 4 defenders, 3 midfielders, 2 wingers and 1 forward.... we even put square pegs in round holes to accomodate it, the obsession is really strange.

I think the whole thing is massively frustrating and unimaginative. Our formation and style of play never changes, regardless of who is in charge. You feel even if we ended up with an Alardyce type manager we would be 4-2-3-1 and persist with slow, tepid football from the back.

Completely agreed.
I was one of the people who was asking for a Rowett to be our manager.
I felt he knows the league, will not be fixated on having to pass the ball out from the back, will play for results. But have not seen any evidence of this at all.
What on earth does he see in playing Ayew? Daka always plays better in a 2. Surely Saturday when losing at home was a chance to go 2 up top. Baffling the decisions that are being made by every manager we have had the last couple of seasons.

Our players  in the premier league thought we were too good to go down and same in the championship.

I completely get where you're coming from but ultimately, our squad is divided up like this. Take out the teenagers and this is how our squad looks.

Goalkeepers - 3 - Stolarczyk, Begovic, Vietes

Defensive Fullbacks - 3 - Choudhury, Thomas, Kristiansen

Attacking Fullbacks - 1 - Ricardo

Centre Halves - 5 - Nelson, Okoli, Vestergaard, Souttar, Lascelles

Defensive Midfielders - 1 - Skipp

Box-To-Box - 3 - James, Winks, Aribo

Attacking Midfielders - 2 - Decordova-Reid, Ramsey

Wingers - 2 - Fatawu, Mavididi

Strikers - 2 - Daka, Ayew

The squad is genuinely atrocious. It's so imbalanced and full of shit characters on massive sums of money that simply do not care.

I do not see how you can put together a viable 11 in any real way other than 4-2-3-1 that doesn't lead to massive issues.

The failure to sign a fullback and a striker in January has meant we can only set up in one meaningful way. It's meant we're extremely predictable.

We used to have 4 strikers, that does look really unbalanced, at minimum swap a keeper for a striker.

We've wasted 3+ months in getting a new manager in place and settled. Delayed sacking Marti by at least a month but arguably 2-3. Delayed appointing a manager by a month. Now it's taken a month for Rowett to realise these lot are a waste of time and he can't trust them.

Marti the fraudulent shit, should have been sacked when Sheffield United spanked us at home, he was allowed to stay for some reason, then they spanked us away, and QPR spanked us away. It was clear there was a big problem, im not sure why we persisted.

I feel like I can see what Rowett is trying to do with us: sort the defence out and we stay up. It's that simple.

We've scored first in four of his six games, and lead in five of them, but only converted one win. We're just generally incapable of shutting up shop and seeing a game out.

The positive is that getting those goals early has put us into favourable positions and you'd hope it would lead to a few of the more favourable fixtures being converted into three points.

I don't know if i'm making it up but i'm sure that in the summer Cifuentes said something about going for the kill when we're leading in games and we've only ever gone for a 2nd goal when leading about 2/3 times.

Yeh he did and we never seemed to actually do that under him. The only one I'd maybe give us credit for is Ipswich where at 2-0 we still came out in the second half and got a third before they scored.

But we've generally offered teams a route back into games rather than seeing them off. Which is a particularly bad strategy when conceding means we crumble. We basically need to keep the clean sheet to get a win.
