We were never going to look confident after our run of form. But we needed a bit of luck, which we got against Ipswich and yesterday, to break the habit.

He alluded to this prior to the game, but my issue was not benching Winks, Ricardo and Daka, rather Hamza and Ayew being their replacements.
You could absolutely have made a case for Fatawu, Mavididi and BDCR needing to be dropped/rested too, especially if Monga, Mukasa and Aribo were fit enough to play.

But it was good enough for the win yesterday, so can't complain too much.

A 16 year old was a bad fit for a game of last night's magnitude, similarly for an 18 year old with no skin in the game.

Bristol were absolutely dog shite.

Really really sh1te.

We did the job.

Still very jittery at times and we know what would have happened  if that pen was scored.

Job done but still loads of room for improvement

Agreed. Didn't watch it last night as asleep trying to shake off a fever, but great to wake up to a win and a clean sheet.

However the key is following up now, and using this to gain some well needed self-confidence.  Beat QPR at the weekend and we maybe can say we've turned a corner.

As I said elsewhere Bristol City are a broken football club at the moment,  after another ruinous January transfer window, the players have downed tools and the disconnect between fans, ownership and DoF is reminiscent of another club I can think of...

If you think this place is a pit of despair then you should see their forum at the moment!

Was a must win last night and we did what we had to do. Let's enjoy it but let's see what happens next.

One final point, is it really correct that Bristol City got a penalty last night? Impossible. That's their first away penalty in 3 years!

The EFL really must hate us to allow that to happen.

What was the attendance last night? There were a lot of empty seats

If it was more than 22,000 I'd be surprised. It was reminiscent of league one 3pms.

Winks was good when he came on. Him and Mukasa off the bench killed the game off, having actual on the ball quality for the last twenty or so minutes made a massive difference.

If you can’t see what Winks brings to the table you are blinkered by how much of a prat he has been

Agree about Winks and Mukasa.
Feel for Winks because of the bad press he gets, but I do think previous managers treating him badly.
For me they had little empathy or understanding for his situation and then were happy to put the team and supporters at a disadvantage for their own agendas. No respect at all for RVN.

De Marco still on the payroll? lol

Well as both the club and the PL are appealing the six-point deduction, I would assume he is very much still on the payroll.

Looks as though the Norwich game might have been a blessing in disguise.

We looked knackered in that game and since GR’s selections and game management hint towards energy rather than ability. We are in a position to go again on Saturday now with Ricardo and Daka back in. Think we’ll also see Winks for Skipp and Mukasa for BDCR.

If we can win again on Saturday I wouldn’t bet against us rolling Watford over too. Could be in a decent position post international break.

Difficult, since Skipp just had his best ever game for us...

Interesting looks like we played much more direct based on that, if true I might watch the next game.
I liked the keeper throwing it forward for a straight attack after the penalty as well.

Have to agree Skipp was great last night, and TBF he's probably been one of the best performers all season. At least you can never doubt his committment to the cause and right now, that means everything.

Also pleased for Thomas, he did actually have a decent spell when we were doomed in the prem, and looked decent last night. Again, I have no doubt he's committed. And at that this level, with a bit of confidence in him, he ain't a problem at all.

Now Ayew, sadly can't say the same. Contributed almost nothing, as did bdcr. I can't say I see enough of either to warrant a place in the squad.

Daka, at least he tries. Okoli the same. Nelson was great last night too. For me the RB position could be of concern, a ageing riccy or choud the choices. Neither great, but they do both try. Choud had a fairly decent game last night. But not sure can rely on this combo post this season.

The rest, well just wish Mav could get that goal and his confidence back, we know he can do it.  Fats, JJ, winks, top players when they're on their game. And Mukasa we know is great.

I just hope GR continues to mould things right, cos that is the missing part, the glue.  We have enough to get out this league, nevermind stay in it.

Right now, I'm confident. So must the team and GR be. So please please just put a sorry looking QPR to the sword, and we may never look back.....

Just seen the headline on a Bristol City Podcast....

"Leicester were poor but outplayed them in that respect."

Hmmm, just a bit salty then

Monga has played in bigger games and he's had very limited opportunities of late despite Fatawu and Mav being poor at best.
Mukasa has been our standout performer in all but one game he's featured in.

In this case, age is just a number and, in my opinion, a bad excuse. In fact, I'd argue the fearlessness of some young players can make them feel less pressure than more experienced heads in such situations.

I think Monga has been drastically worse and ineffectual than Mavididi and Fatawu. Not his fault - he's only 16!

Just don't think chucking a 16 year old into a relegation scrap is the answer.
