Popular Post adamkhalifa Posted 24 May Popular Post Posted 24 May Challinor has to be the top target. One year left on his contract. Incredible lower league CV. Win rate for the new director of football to drool over. 9

I did say I believe he’s had promotions with lower league teams. What he’s done at Stockport is remarkable! I don’t see the new the new technical director opting for challinor, I think he will go for a youngish manager. 1

If Robins leaves Stoke, despite question marks over his backroom staff, he’d be high on my list too. I also quite like the thought of Fuchs. I’m still an admirer of the work Will Still did in France, but I think he speaks better French than he does English Russell Martin would of course fracture a broken fanbase even more. I’d be very surprised if it’s foreign, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Jimmy Thelin gets mentioned again. I agree that Robins would be a coup in terms of where we currently find ourselves. The job he did at Cov was impressive. L2 to a Championship Play off final, only to lose on pens. Granted they were 17th when he was sacked but he had clearly laid some great foundations. He would be one manager that I would be happy to take. I’m not so sure about Fuchs but again, he would be someone that I could get fully behind

Yeah I tend to agree that I don’t see the new technical Director going for a Challinor or even Robins. As much as I would like them. As you say, reckon it’s more than likely someone like Johnson or an unknown. If it was Johnson, as others have mentioned on here, then I would hope he has learned from his time at Sunderland. Where they were basically blowing teams away, before the wheels fell off

Johnson just been promoted hasn’t he and mates with Mccaron however you spell his name 😂 just think we might got the enzo way and get an unknown young coach/manager and give him a rebuild that we need

I think appointing one of Challinor, Robins or Fuchs could do just that, they’ll be instantly respected by our fanbase because of their history in management or as a player. Or like you said in another post, we dip into the refreshing unknown like we did with Maresca. This is going to be the most important managerial hire in a long time, we can’t afford to go for another underwhelming name like Cifuentes. 1

ronnup Posted 25 May Posted 25 May Martin is exactly what we dont need... Rudkin masterclass incoming
Wsl Posted 25 May Posted 25 May Martin is genuinely awful. His only decent achievement was getting Southampton promoted, but then under his management they went on such a bad run it broke records. Otherwise it's appalling (with a bit of help from Google): Milton Keynes Dons (2019–2021): finishing 19th and 13th in League One. Swansea City (2021–2023): 15th and 10th in the Championship. Southampton (2023–2024): Did get them to promotion to the Premier League. Fired for a run of bad results leaving them bottom of the table with 5 points from 16 matches. So much damage done that on the basis of games left to play, it remains the earliest relegation in PL history. Rangers (2025): 123 days, 17 matches. Won 5, a win rate that is the lowest in Ranger's 120+ year history He'll break records alright. No club has ever been relegated three times in consecutive seasons. Yet. 3

Wsl Posted 25 May Posted 25 May True. I was looking at it more recently from the PL to 2. Because to start off with the massive head start that PL money gives you and to drop that far down you would think shouldn't be achievable.
lgfualol Posted 25 May Posted 25 May God not Russell Martin, it’s league 1, please do not make me watch us pass it around the back for 80 minutes a game. 1

Clogger_ Posted 25 May Posted 25 May (edited) Challinor would be an outstanding choice. Stockport are an extremely well-drilled team and they've recruited well - if expensively - at the level. I'd love it if he could coax Ollie Norwood* into spending a season with us haha (*Presumably the only reason Norwood's bumming around in L1 is for a hefty pay cheque, so I guess he'd be open to persuasion! He's a cheat code at that level) Russell Martin is however a t**t, so I suppose this is a likelier outcome Edited 25 May by Clogger_
RichardGearman Posted 25 May Posted 25 May (edited) Watching notts county in the league 2 playoff final and martin paterson has got them playing some cracking football. He's another one to add to the desired list. Edited 25 May by RichardGearman Mistaken spelling
Guppys Love Child Posted 25 May Posted 25 May A sabbatical from the club for me if Russel 'B-Tec Rodgers" Martin is appointed. Polar opposite in 100% everything we currently need. The bloke is an incompetent fraud, a bullsh1t spouting media whore, who's horrendous managerial records tell it's own story without any embellishment to prove that he's just plain fvcking awful... Don't be surprised if he is appointed to fulfil our esteemed leader's fixation with possession based Pepball and his quest to turn us into a poor mans Clone of Man City.. But fear not, under the Nepo Baby's second too none leadership "we promote next season". 4

Did we know in March that we would have to rebuild the squad for league one money? No. Did he know what managers would or would not be available in May? No. And that literally changes everything. What? If hes as competent as you're saying he is then yes, absolutely. Of course you'd plan for 2 scenarios that are very possible. Honestly the main weird thing is that we've not said goodbye to Rowett. Either we want him or we don't want him. Keeping him around in limbo is literally what we had with RVN. 1
