The only positive I can take right know is knowing that when he eventually gets sacked ( already too long), we literally can't hire a worse manager to take over.

Enzo, when we played "better" teams or teams that played lots of possession football did alter his tactics.

He was single minded but also smart with it.

When he first went to Chelsea, instead of attacking with 5 players, he only committed 4 because he didn’t have the players he needed. Even yesterday against Liverpool, Man City (cheating bastards though they are) only committed 4 forward until a man was sent off.

Martin is weird because I do see patterns of play but he seems to pick the wrong players for certain roles and is too rigid with certain tactics. He played an insane high line against us when he was Southampton manager and got destroyed both times. As rocket science as this might sound, you *don’t* have to play a high line to win football matches as many of our opponents have proved.

As bad as Martin is, the people above him are even worse, not just for appointing him but for letting him get away with it. Jason Wilcox at United fell out with Amorim because he kept telling him to change his tactics. They binned him and brought in Carrick and finished 3rd. Admittedly it’s all going wrong this season but their squad building was horrendous. Anyway the point is people above Martin should tell him to stop playing the high line till we get a few wins in a row and confidence back in the team.

Yep, Enzo changed things up completely. This is how Russell Martin-sides regularly gets destroyed. He’s a donkey.

65% possession, 0 shots on target while conceding 5 - that’s as Russell Martin as it gets.

It is shocking how he is still able to talk his way into a job.

There's a double positive actually...

1. The next manager will definitely be better.

2. This weird Russell Martin fetish that's been circling around the club for a while should finally be put to bed and we'll never be linked with him again.

This isn't really true. I'd call it revisionism but, in fairness, people were saying it at the time and it was wrong then.

We played the same shape, the same personnel, the same tactics against Southampton as we did, say, Rotherham.

What was different was the opponent.

Against every team in the league, Enzo had us press from the front and work hard and close teams down and try play fast on the transition to get in behind.

In fact, attacking fast through the lines was always Plan A with Enzo, that's why we passed it around between Vestergaard, Winks and Hermansen so much. It wasn't to build up slow and keep the ball in defence, it was to try and bait the opposition forward out of their low blocks so we could beat the press and then counter up the pitch quickly.

Enzo gets dismissed as a Pep clone by people with a one dimensional view of football but the sport is more nuanced than that. Enzo at his best is a bit like De Zerbi, just a bit more versatile. Baiting the opponent to manufacture counters.

But we didn't have to do that against teams like West Brom, Norwich, Southampton and - most hilariously - Plymouth at home. Because those teams all stepped to us and played a high line and didn't sit in their own low block. That gave us the space to move faster and get in behind.

And in Southampton's case, because Martin DOES want to build slowly and DOES want to control from the back and is slower moving up the pitch, Enzo's high press had us absolutely swarming them all over their own half and we completely mugged them. That's not something we changed, he had us pressing against everyone it's just 90% of the league surrendered possession to us and didn't let us take risks.

If he'd stuck around and done a season in the Prem with us, you'd have seen a lot of high pressing and counter attacking from Enzo. We were always set up for that we just didn't get the opportunity.

If ever there was a set of stats that summed up Russell Martin's brand of football, this is it.

Yes been a race to the bottom since we appointed Cooper.

Martin is comfortably the worst of the lot and Ruud was abysmal

A bit off-topic but do you think Craig Bellamy is nearly finished with Wales now?

This is the game Enzo said he wasn’t happy with how we played so not sure how much of it was tactical genius. The fact Robbie Savage can rock up and be 3-0 up at half time against him should tell you that.

I think the Burnley situation made it obvious that he's willing to listen to the right offer. What I heard is that that fell through because Burnley didn't want his back room staff which he considered non-negotiable.

But Burnley weren't JUST a club at the top end of the Championship, they were one where he'd previously worked.

He's got a contract til after the Euros and we're joint hosting them and have a very strong chance of qualifying. He's said he really wants us to take us to that tournament and manage Wales in Cardiff in the Euros and I do believe him.

If a Prem club came for him (which I doubt they will currently) he might go but otherwise I imagine he'll stay til after the Euros and then see what club jobs he can get.
