It's been massively ramped up this summer as well. So many stories from clubs about this kind of thing. Clearly a targeted thing.

Promise David is heading to the Premier League.

 

Brighton & Hove Albion announced Tuesday that it has signed the Canadian striker on a season-long loan from Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise.

 

David joins Brighton after two seasons at Union, where he scored 41 goals in 82 matches and helped the club win it's first league title in 90 years in 2025. He signed a contract extension through June 2029 last year.

Big news for the Brampton boy (man). Hope it works out for him. I am a bit shocked that he is in the EPL but more reason to prove people wrong. Make us proud!

For a club that's just won the europa league and qualified for the champions league its strange that Villa are cashing in so many their players. With Morgan Rodgers and Tielemans sold already I would have thought FFP still wouldn't be an issue. Are Villa freeing up funds for a big deal?

Two clubs who really seem to be  hit hard by the financial regulations.
 

Apparently Newcastle had to sell Gordon to satisfy PSR but they weren’t forced to accept other offers so presumably just thought they were too good to turn down .

Still seem to have spent a fair bit themselves.

 

Very much one in and two or three out at Villa but they have coped so far .

Saliba out for a few months minimum. I guess they don't trust the likes of Hincapie, Mosquera too much to be as good as him next to Gabriel; Calafiori primarily a roaming LB too.

Isn't it the UEFA SCR rules which is hurting these clubs?
Villa, Newcastle, Forest & Chelsea all been fined the latter 3 around the 2m mark but Villa were hit with a 22m or there about.
Palace are struggling to meet the target for this season & will assume all of Sunderland, Brighton & B'Mouth will sail close......it's wages that will always get you once you try & compete.

Yes basically anyone outside the traditional big 6 seem to get hit the most .

Any team that looks set to gate crash the big six are being punished. Other season's though Villa have shown they have coped okay with big losses compared to say Newcastle who gone from challenging for Europe to hovering around 15th. Perhaps showcases what a good manager Emery is, this season maybe toughest test though with the player exits.

All these things are why I wonder at times why I even bother supporting a team.

 

People probably often wonder why I'm even here at this particular forum(especially more so lately).

 

When Leicester City won the Premier League in 2016 it was a win for many of us as football fans. The ones who start each season with very little hope of ever winning anything.

 

We(Notts) got promoted to our highest level in years and with that we lost our two best players as a reward for it.

Villa are doing exactly what "smaller clubs" need to do in order to have a chance of sustained success toward the top.

 

Which is not be worried about holding onto players, selling them for good money and backing yourself to replace them? Might be one or two more than ideal, but there's no reason they can't replace these players and continue to do well.

Plus they are spending £100 million on the ground whilst losing millions in matchday revenue whilst they do.
