If you look at his managerial record at his previous clubs it’s remarkable in that GD at each club is very close in terms of goals scored v goals against. Also games won and lost are remarkably close in terms of won and lost.

By now we should be hearing far more rumours in terms of players in and yes players out. The first competitive game potentially is what about 7 weeks away.

I'm curious to see whether there is a rush to sell before 30 June or a preference for delaying sales until after 1 July. That will tell us a little about our likely spending power under SCMP.

Scary really, with how much needs to happen within that time.

Just reeks of outright laziness again from our esteemed Chief Football Officer. Another Southampton link, probably through the same one agent he knows, someone he’s not had to do any due diligence on as he’s had a hard on for him for ages.

I doubt Rudkin has done any other work in the market looking for alternatives for potential interview or appointment. He’s had Martin in his sights all along, making life easy for himself again and allowing him to have his feet up for two months. I doubt he was even interviewed.
The whole thing stinks and although it makes me slightly uncomfortable, part of me hopes it all goes belly up so the pressure on JR grows even more.

Would be keen to compare Pearson's first comments in the summer of 2008 to Martin's last night. It helps nobody being negative from the off but so does being completely ignorant to where we are as a club and what is required to truly effect a change and rebuild.

Pearson said: "I am privileged to have been given the chance to turn around the fortunes of a club with so much history and such a strong fan base and I am confident my style of management can help bring the good times back to Leicester City.

"I have an enormous amount of respect for Milan Mandaric and chief executive Lee Hoos, who I worked very closely with at Southampton.

"And I can promise everyone connected with this club I will be giving the job my 100% commitment."

@Ric Flair More Pearson quotes from 20 June 2008:

He said: "I am delighted that I have been given this magnificent opportunity to revitalise the fortunes of this great club after what has been a difficult few years.

"I have an enormous amount of respect for Chairman Milan Mandaric and Chief Executive Lee Hoos, who I worked very closely with at Southampton, and I can promise everyone connected with this club that I will be giving the job my 100 per cent commitment.

"I am privileged to have been given the chance to turn around the fortunes of a club with so much history and such a strong fan base, and I am confident that my style of management can help bring the good times back to Leicester City.

"From speaking to the Chairman, it is evident how much this club means to him and that's why I am determined not to let him or the supporters down.

"There has been far too much disappointment and negativity attached to this club in recent seasons and it is my job to change that.

"The infrastructure is firmly in place; it is now time to start performing consistently on the pitch and that is what I have been brought here to do.

"League One is a tough division to get out of but we will play the necessary football required to gain promotion and in the process give our magnificent fans something to cheer about," he added.

Somewhat hilariously, Mandaric made reference to the number of season tickets sold as part of the announcement:

"We have currently got over 10,000 season ticket holders signed up for the new campaign and that is on a par to where we were this time last year. That's a fantastic achievement.

"As a club we must now instil a winning mentality once again. This club has been going nowhere for four long years, but it's time for that to change. There has been too much negativity around this place and that's something that we must eradicate.

"As a unit we can now move forward. We must all now get behind Nigel and his players make this fantastic club great once again."

As for the reaction here on FT, the first Pearson OUT post appears to be 23 June 2008

I might have missed it because his word salad is nauseating but I don’t think he ever mentioned challenging for the title or promotion? Which is the bare minimum for our club at this level. Screams of losers mentality tbh and will be more interested in “playing the right way” than winning.

It feels like we've had more fans of former clubs of his coming on to this forum to point and laugh then we've had before. Maybe I am being overly sensitive!

Little point in perpetuating the negativity; I'm sure even if everyone gives him a chance, his football and comments will have everyone against him before the clocks change.

Ultimately the problems at the club are far deeper than him. Unless there's a serious clear out and a strategy that is deeper than "Ask ChatGPT", it's hard to believe anybody in charge will be able to do much.

Looking at his coaching masterclass video when they smoked Cardiff 4 nil away from home. His set up makes me think both Aluko and Joseph have a real chance of prospering as you say. Aluko could play as wide CB that operates as a box crasher as well with central midfielders screening any advance and Joseph plays as the wing back / winger.

Badly need a solid LB that can do everything. Wonder if Harrison Burrows is willing to drop down the leagues, straight swap for Big H? 😂

The one thing I’ve been wondering with Martin… is he the type that will play someone who doesn’t fit because they are the better player or will he play the worse player (or less reputation) that fits the system?  Basically will he play Thomas or kristiansen because we’re stuck with them or even if they’re here, will he use a better suited fit (the next academy option)

im sick to the death of people trying to squeeze Luke Thomas into a team lol

more over, not one fan of his former clubs has come forward with anything positive to say about him. Fans will be on his back from game one if he still plays passive boring football, another season of pure toxicity showing that dumb and dumber still haven't learnt a thing from 3 relegations in 4 years

I hope this makes sense, but it's going to be really hard to 'judge' him positively until next season.

This season the bare minimum is promotion. The absolute bare minimum is to get this team out of the division. Even if we win with 99 points it means nothing to me personally. Get us up. Do your job.

Next year will be key - if we're doing well, his football is bedded in and we're challenging or right up there then that's positive. Bumble around the mid-table or bottom and he'll have failed in what he's been bought here to do which is to get us back to the Prem.

His League 1 expectations are up, no questions asked, no leeway given.

I can't see that becoming a reality though, he'll make an enemy of the fans and throw players under the bus if he needs to. Also wouldn't be surprised if he toddled off at the first sniff of interest from other clubs if we are top of the league, too.

Oh what a lovely thought that is.

I wish Russell Martin well and hope he succeeds, but I feel this is another wrong move by the club.  At a time when we're desperate for something positive to get behind they appoint the one manager pretty much all fans agree they didn't want.

Martin's hopes of succeeding will depend on whether he can change the culture and improve standards, something Pearson did so well last time we went down to League One.  To do that we still need to clear out a lot of players and bring new ones in, and these new players will also need to fit into his style of play.  I just don't see Rudkin doing that though, he's too incompetent to see what's needed to get the club moving forward again and I see a transfer window like last year's where we're scrambling around at the end of the window selling players before bringing a few in on loan.

This appointment also suggests that McCarron either has no say or thinks the same as Top/Rudkin.  Either way he might as well not be here.

He's under massive pressure to succeed, if he doesn't then his own reputation that is already hanging by a thread will be in tatters, the only positive I can think of.

Sadly I feel almost forced to get behind him, because Russell Martin and his players are the only thing now standing between us and financial oblivion, I might have to just suck up for a season and focus purely on results, even if it does bore me to sleep.
I know I won't stick to this and I'll be slating the slow, laborious gameplay about 3 matches in, but we can only hope.

the boos at that 2-0 opening day defeat to Bromley are gonna be all timers. get us to October and get him sacked already

Behave, most will still clap them off and remind us that RM needs time to implement his style.

If Top or Rudkin were to shit on the floor I'm sure there are people that would fight to be the first to eat it.

Martin despite having a very average CV he's somehow been able to manage Southampton, Rangers and now Leicester. Seems like if you do a decent job at Swansea your automatically considered a top coach.
