It’s completely rational. Anyone with a brain cell and a bit of honesty knows exactly what’s coming.

If people want to lie to themselves because they think their performative faux positivity makes them a better person then apparently they’ve learned nothing over the years. I’d rather just say it how it is, and deep down every poster on here knows how it is.

You're unintentionally hilarious. Perhaps my favourite poster on here.

The ultimate sterile possession manager.

We don’t have the players for this style, and he is so rigid in his philosophy that he won’t change.

We’ve got multiple recent experiences of what happens when a team goes on a bad run and the manager can’t turn it round.

Challinor finished 3rd on two occasions at this level and failed to get Stockport into the Championship. That is usually called “bottling it”.

Martin, on the other hand, has managed to get a team promoted into the Premier League. He has only managed one full season at this level previously and the 13th position was with MK Dons who, the previous season, were a newly promoted team that he kept up after taking over mid season. His job there was solid, proved after he left (despite the fact they finished 3rd the following season, they did not

go up and were then relegated).

I am still amazed people are still trying to compare Challinor and Martin when there is no comparison.

Plus win percentages are a pointless comparison. Martin O’Neill has only a 38% win rate here yet is one of our most successful managers. Mainly because 95% of his time here was in the top flight, just like Martin has spent his time much higher than Challinor and there must be a good reason for that (this is the same Challinor that is now out of work and hasn’t been hired all summer). Great win for Stockport today too btw.

Edit: Just to clarify, I didn’t want Martin but he’s here now so, while he needs to win me over, I’m just not going to constantly bash him. A point away from home at a newly promoted team is a decent result. I remember going to Stockport away for Pearson’s first away game and it was horrific. The difference in opinion at the end of the game compared to today was different. Ideally, Martin needed to start with a home game to get off to a winning start like we did the last time we were at this level.

I get what you’re saying but the main difference is and I know it’s still early but us and Bristol City would welcome back Pearson straight away if he was available.
There isn’t a side that Martin has managed that they are glad he’s gone and don’t have to endure his endless tippy tappy nonsense and wouldn’t want to see his tactical approach again.
His approach and arrogance as to how to play don’t match what he’s achieved in the game.
There’s only so long you can hang on to the Southampton promotion.
Had Martin stayed there until the end of that season he’d have beaten Derby’s points record in the top flight.

It’s very simple if we got rid of Martin tomorrow would any of his previous clubs want him? No they wouldn’t.
The same question with Pearson or O’Neil and majority of sides would.
I know I’d take Pearson or O’Neil over Martin this season.

This feels like the Craig Levein era if I’m being honest.

Random players, half of which I wouldn’t recognise if I walked past them in the street.

Low quality and even lower expectations.

Think he would be give more an an easy time if he wasn't appointed by King Power.

Relationship between the owner and the fan base is toxic.

Hed have an easy time if he didn’t follow the same route the last few managers tried with a set of player who can’t do it

Some of his selections - just utterly ridiculous. That's before you get to the football produced.

No. He's shit, possession football is shit, every player that we have apart from our academy graduates are shit and when he's sacked I'm going to have a celebratory tug.

Get out of my head

Id assume if Top had any kind of footballing brain then this wouldnt even be a conversation.

Anyone that's watches football knows what Rusell brings. If you like it then thats fair. Whatever floats your boat.

But nobody that actually follows football should be surprised.

I will say I reckon 75% of match going fans arent football fans though and will be swayed purely by results.

We dont know how good we had it under Levein. Those midtable championship days.

One game. Mid rebuild. Slagging anyone of at this stage is ridiculous.

So why did he insist on playing tactics akin to his preference in the midst of rebuild?

He was tactically out schooled today by a team who weren’t particularly defensive

Nonsense I was slagging him off way before this.

The absolute turnip who hired him is the bigger issue though.

Why would the fans give Challinor (who wasn't and still isn't available btw) the time to build, but not our current manager? You've reiterated the point that it's more to do with who the manager is rather than anything else.

Because he wouldn’t make as foolish mistakes as expecting Okoli and Thomas to evolve into Van Dijk and Roberto Carlos

Even after 2 games its extremely obvious (for anyone who isnt drinking the kp kool aid or doing the whole performative giving the manager a chance) that it is absolutely not going to work.

Sack him tomorrow and try and get someone in who knows how to win a game of football rather than ‘playing the right way’.

Committing to his style of play whilst we have players starting for us that cannot play it is just stupid

You would've hoped he would've gone away and learn something after Rangers but he is just going to be the same "plan A" and nothing else manager isn't he

People really think these managers change. Time and time again they waltz into it.

I'm not sure he's expecting either of those things is he though? He's probably acutely aware that neither are good enough or stylistically suited enough for his style and so will attempt to bring in a centre back more suited before the end of the window and will likely use McFarlane moving forwards... But sure, we'll go with him expecting Okoli and Thomas to evolve into Van Dijk and Roberto Carlos to suit your narrative 😊
