Russell Martin - Confirmed as First Team Manager

I genuinely don’t think his style of football is the problem (even though it does seem like the worst possible system for our back line to cope with). The problem is a one dimensional stubbornness and lack of ability to improvise and adapt. Or at least that’s how it seems right now.

 

time will tell. We will have to see if there is more than one string to Brussels bow because despite today’s win we could easily have thrown today’s 3 points down the drain had any one of their chances in the first half led to a goal

The squad is starting to look healthily stacked so it will be interesting to see how he manages the match day squad situation and keep all players happy. 

 

Add Lundstram, Doyle, Riis, Chaplin & potentially O’Hora to today’s squad which looked strong - who will miss out? 

 

I personally would of said Thomas, BDR, Carr & Cullen but Thomas has been excellent last 2 games, he clearly likes and trusts BDR & Cullen is one of his expensive summer signings 🤔

Thomas has done very well at CB but I don't see him staying there. 

 

At least we playing at a much higher tempo than previous mangers and actually pressing.

 

The players looked gassed last night so I think we'll see quite a bit of squad rotation with so many games. 

 

I expect starting CBs will be Souttar and O'Hora with the Finnish lad being introduced slowly in the Van cup. 

 

Fullbacks are good with JJ and Aluko as the standouts. 

 

In midfield he has to start Braybrooke  and Page most games with Lundstram being introduced from the bench. 

 

Wings are an easy rotation between Alves, Watson,  Burns and Howell, with Alves clearly being the best. Burns looked quick last night though. 

I like Bristric, he's physical, links play well so with the arrival of Riis, hopefully Chaplin, BDR and Cullen are all competing for the 10 spot and nowhere near the 9.

 

Okoli, Coulibaly and Faes are all surplus to our requirements.

His mission (for me anyway) is get us back into the Championship and stabilise us there whilst continuing to utilise the academy. 
 

Right now I’m not even bothered about returning to the Prem. I just want to watch a team of players trying their best and actually want to be here. 

 

His style of play is what it is. He won’t change so I’m just gonna have to suck it up.

I really hope he does well. Obviously, first and foremost, for the sake of Leicester City, but also I want us to have a manager here for a while and actually build something. We see glimpses of how good the football can be. You can say that this has something to do with quality that we have but you can see that the moves are rehearsed, and that that is coaching. 

There are bombscare moments, which I obviously want less of, but I've seen encouraging signs in the last couple of games. Hopefully we can put a run together and shoot up the table.

Said all the right things again - first 20 and last 20 were utter pony - needs to sort that out but to be fair he seems to be seeing it like we are and calling it out - proof will be if he can sort it out

Plenty still might not love his style of football but the more we see and here of him he comes across as a thoroughly nice bloke who seems to genuinely give a sh’t about our club and the young squad we have that need looked after - it may go horribly wrong but I don’t mind him at all

Feck it I am going to say it, he has really surprised me, he is fixing the culture issue, he has promoted lots of young lads and shown his bravery and trust in the young players, his football when it comes off is great to watch but it is also face behind a cushion at times. 
 

He speaks really well, clearly cares about the club and this project, and it feels like our club is in good hands. And his hair ….. well it’s magnificent 
 

I like him and I am not afraid to say it 😂

I didn't want RM as our manager, but have been quietly surprised with how he is turning things around. I still want to know if he can overcome issues we have with teams that come and park the bus, as there will be more that do this than don't.

Honestly I’ve loved everything RM has been saying recently. His honesty about the transfer market, where we stand with the players wanting out and about the culture overall has been absolutely spot on and refreshing. Doesn’t seem like a man that’ll be silenced and I respect that a lot after the amount of puppets we’ve had in charge recently.

Plymouth clearly a false dawn, and it was wasn’t it. Two deflected efforts on goal got lucky and the first half pissing about at the back and final 20 minutes we could have easily conceded 4 or 5.

We are so desperate to find anything positive than a first league win in four games had everyone hoping again, and then Martin puts a team out who did that in the first half today.

 

Martin won’t get another job as a manager after this. Snake oil salesman. All talk and no delivery. Get in the bin smarmy twat

Jesus do people really think our performance against Plymouth was our turn around? On what evidence? Yes we got the result, but I am yet to  see any good half  performances and I say it again in the 3rd tier of English football

I really don’t know.

 

I want him to turn this around and be a success. Changing managers regularly isn’t doing us any good and once again, we have some players who have been brought in specifically for this manager.

 

But the positives, how positive are they? Or at least worth overlooking if the performances and results aren’t coming.

 

Playing youth. Yes, a big improvement on the previous managers but was there any alternative at this point? Would other managers we could have brought in not do the same?

 

Improved culture. Yes, this is a good thing. But it was rock bottom so could only, in theory, improve.

 

Russell Martin is what he is. There’s not false promises or saying he’ll do one thing and doing the opposite. The style and its limitations are well known.

 

My issue is, we seem to be like a car trying to drive with its handbrake on. There’s a lot of talent in this side. We have invested a lot and have the strongest squad/depth in this league and promotion is a necessity. But we are already so far off the pace.

 

It does feel like if someone with a bit less rigid principles came in, simplified things a bit, we could have the handbrake released.

 

We really need to see improvement in both performances and results in the next 5 games, now the window is shut, the squad is complete and we should be able to settle and gell.
