The massive postive is he continues to play Josepth, Alves, Braybrook and Page

Riis seems like a good aditpion also, few tweaks I think he could get  us up

Sorry that kind of positivity is not allowed around here

I have no confidence in him sorting out the defence.
We will continue to concede goals mainly down to tippy tappy playing out from the back.
Everywhere Martin has been his side’s have conceded a lot of goals. I don’t see it changing here.
The only thing I can hope is that the majority of this league is so bad that it won’t cost us.
However seeing as we’ve conceded 7 goals in 2 games I somewhat doubt it.

I haven't been to games, so I haven't seen the sort of abuse being talked about from the stands, but I have seen a lot of the aggression and anger towards RM but sometimes crossing the line into the personal online. Seriously, if a football result makes you want to personally abuse the manager regarding him or his life outside of the pitch, you really need to take stock of yourselves.

Criticise the football constructively. Don't abuse people you have never met personally because you're in a football cult.

does this include the many posters who call him every name under the sun on here?

If riis stays fit we will be fine going forward

if he keeps Thomas in the teams we will need to score 3 Or 4 every game to win - could say similar for that absolute donkey souttar

surely the Finn and aluko or mcfarlane come in for those 2

and we need another keeper desperately

There’s clear signs we can click as an attacking unit but it does seem to depend on the approach of the opposition. We could find ourselves against a low block like MK again and find that we revert back to struggling to create chances.

And defensively we are still a concern but O’Hora could be a big player for us as he comes in.

Still a lot more questions than answers but all you can hope for is we pick up some wins to keep in touch (or keep away from danger depending on your outlook) whilst things hopefully gel more.

It’s not been an amazing start at all, however I think some are being unfairly vocal and nasty in their criticism of the guy based off his wider reputation in football rather than his actual time here so far.

The Burton and Oxford games were horrific, but anyone slagging him off after a 4-3 victory clearly just wants the guy out at all costs.

It took Marti, Ruud and even Rowett way longer, and way more than 2 embarrassing performances before crowds started to turn on them.

At his last club he was blocked from leaving the ground by supporters. It will never get like that here.

It wasn't a 4-3 victory, really. It was a 4-3 defeat in all but the literal sense.

Martin's crap brand of football almost cost us a commanding 4-1 lead. That simply isn't sustainable or acceptable for a club who in the very recent past were challenging for the Champions League. We're not now, of course, but doesn't mean we need to willingly swallow snake oil by the gallonful and pretend this is okay.

His 'philosophy' is total garbage and ugly to watch. Changing that based on one extremely fortunate win is fickle and shows no long-term concerns for our club.

Pretending we lost a game that we actually won is a new one🤣🤣🤣

You see where I've used the adverb 'really' as a modifier of the truth? And that I've said 'all but the literal sense' to indicate that's where I'm using metaphorical meaning?

That's the part that shows I'm not 'pretending we lost a game'. Those words that might not immediately seem clear to you are actually indicating that I know we won but I don't think it good enough to have that status.

I'm making the - not too complicated - point that EVEN THOUGH WE WON the performance was enough to be considered a defeat. I even say that we had a 'fortunate win'.

But reading and understanding is hard, isn't it, so I won't judge you too harshly. You can always ask for help where necessary. Imbecile.

You’ve done a better job at defending your use of an adverb than you did at the mental gymnastics about winning a game of football! Well done 🤤

I wasn't defending it - I was pointing it out to you because clearly you don't read too good.

Like I say - perhaps a DM asking posters what they actually mean when it isn't outright and explicit might be really useful for you. I can also recommend some intervention programmes that will help develop clarity of reading, if you'd like?

It’s the best attacking football we have played out of marci, cooper, Ruud and Rowett.

Also the lowest position, playing teams when there is a clear gulf in class normally results in “attacking football”

Like when managers you mentioned above

RVN stuck 6 past QPR

Or Cooper stuck 4-0 past Tranmere

Even Marti beating Plymouth 3-1

I'm not so sure it is yet. We've created very little so far and faced far more chances against us, we need significant improvement but i'm more confident if he continues to have belief in the young players with some reliable experience like O'Hora, Lundstram, Riis etc that this should hopefully improve. It needs to do to start seeing consistent results, until then it'll be hard work.

Longer term I have minimal faith we'll be solid at the back as he's not once in any season as a manager managed to do this. His teams are usually in the bottom quarter of the league for goals conceded regardless of how well or poor they do results and league standings wise. Even when he got Southampton up they conceded over 60 goals, staggering.

63 in total. 9 of which were against us. 5 at home, 4 away. But that’s still 54 in their other 44 games. In fact just checking Southampton's  results from that season they conceded 16 in the first 6. 4 twice and 5 away at Sunderland. He’s not a defensive minded coach in any way and I suspect all the work on the training ground is about how you set up with the ball

it’s getting done on the transition that is Martin’s absolute Achilles heel. Yes we’ll probably concede a few brain fart goals playing out from the back this season, but he’s always going to gloss over that as risk reward. But we seem so susceptible when the ball gets turned over, there’s gaps all over the pitch because of the high 8 positions. Any team with a modicum of sense will set up exactly how Oxford did, wait for us to make a mistake and hit us on the transition. And we’ll never learn

Yeah, the numbers are usually underpinned by several hammerings which is another red flag for a teams resilience and effectiveness.

Bottom line is, i'm yet to truly under what the reward is in some of the football and there must be some but we are not yet functioning in the game model (as he calls it) that he wants. Currently we auto pilot short to medium length passing at all times from the back that is not massively progressive but comes at a high risk when it's turned over.

As Dom Wells said on our podcast last week, his football on the most part is too safe going forward but still manages to bring major risk in the most dangerous areas defensively.

I'd love someone to point this out to him and him explain this away.

I think he’s more of an ideologist than a coach….. when he talks you just don’t get the impression he knows what he is talking about, or that he gives off the impression he is a good coach.

Compare him to Enzo, it’s night and day. Enzo was a coach, when he was asked a tactical question he gave you a technical answer, describing why he did something and the tactical goal….. with Martin, he’s a hype man….. he will say it’s either about energy, or young players on the pitch……

Whether that’s just interpretation, I don’t know…. But Martin to me just doesn’t strike me as a good coach, he doesn’t fill me with confidence he knows exactly what he is doing…. He has a style he wants to play, but can he coach it?

A very interesting take and further confirmation, Enzo dropped Thomas like a stone.

Martin plays him for full 90 minutes.

Enzo walking his players through tactics at that open training session was something that we’d likely never see under Russell.

I was vocal about Enzo whilst here but the sad reality is, he’ll be our best manager for many years.

Cooper, Ruud, Marti and Russell will never manage Chelsea or Man City (let alone both).
