Which, again, is my point. I feel like you're largely defending Perez the player, which is not what I'm attacking. I'm attacking Perez the transfer. He took a vast amount of our budget, prevented us reinforcing correctly both at the time and in years to come and we paid a sum of money that we'd never, ever be able to make profit on when we're a club that relies on being able to upsell our assets if we're going to compete. If we convinced Messi, in his prime, to come to Leicester for £1tn and the club went out of business as a result, it would be our worst ever deal despite him being our best ever player (which Perez definitely isn't.) @Stadt gets me. Popular Post Ric Flair Posted 29 June Popular Post Posted 29 June I actually don't think anyone would pay more than £2.5m for him, we've overpaid by 10 times his worth, it's got to be the worst transfer i've ever seen. 9
Popular Post Stadt Posted 29 June Popular Post Posted 29 June It was all entirely predictable. I remember posting I wouldn't have signed him for even a quarter of the fee. We are literally are th only club in the world that would sign Skipp for that fee and we are the only club in the world that would sign Skipp when we already had Winks. Two completely benign midfielders that are no threat offensively and are poor out of possession. So we've spent £35m on the pair in fees and probably £15m in wages? If we're extremely lucky we might get about £7.5m back. I'm sick of typing out these numbers for pretty much every incoming/outgoing. 7

I feel like Perez was a mid-table Premier League player when we signed him and that's what we got. I'm not saying that he was a fantastic signing. I just really disagree that he's a top 5 worst LCFC signing. He doesn't even get close to the likes of Soumare, Slimani, Mills, Wise, Praet, Musa, Benkovic, Coady, Silva, Bennett, Winks, Vestergaard, Okoli, Souttar, Kramaric, Akinbiyi, Daka, Cannon, Inler or Ward. That's 20 without really thinking about it. 1

Dan Posted 29 June Posted 29 June (edited) More fool those who thought anything would change with McCarron there. McCarron was brought in to take the heat off Rudkin and nothing more. He would only have been brought in to enact what those above him want to do anyway rather than being given a chance to shape things his own way. Either that or he was specifically identified as somebody who fits in line with all their bullshit. This is yet another example of ensuring we ourselves take the hit. Rather than taking this rare, lucky opportunity to slightly recover one of their big ****ups, they will instead drag things out to ensure that we pay the full whack, we get a bad, on his way down player that wants to leave the club and recoup either nothing in three years, or a nominal fee in two. They'll never cut their cloth. This is just more of the same bullshit that has put us into this situation in the first place. Stupid decision after stupid decision after stupid decision. Do they ever at any point think that they might have to change their process? The one that has taken us from a top half Premier League club to League One in four years. Get these bums out of the club. Edited 29 June by Dan 1
Lionator Posted 29 June Posted 29 June I feel bad for him as a person and he’s certainly not a bad egg in terms of some of the numpties in our squad but he has to go for the sake of both him and us.
mozartfox Posted 29 June Posted 29 June The Madders and Skip Fees demonstrate just how horrendous Dufkin has performed.
Dan Posted 29 June Posted 29 June 2 hours ago, Finnegan said: And loaned out the one good season we had during his contract haha. Still, he cost noticeably less and didn't cause us the same level of financial burden. What makes Skipp one of our worst (honestly, I think there's a strong argument for THE worst) signings is the context around it. He ate up such a massive amount of our budget in a position that wasn't anywhere near the weakest in the squad when we desperately need reinforcement elsewhere, he stopped us signing other players and he was never, ever going to make us profit. We could have made like Burnley, signed a bunch of cheap young players, had no worse odds of going down and at very least had a bunch of Hermansen-esque footballers we could sell on for profit to soften the blow. But no. As a piece of business that represents not just what he was as a player but what the loss of that money took from us I think I'd rank him higher than Slimani, Perez and Akinbiyi who would all make my top 5 worst deals we've done. For the record, rounding off my list as top 5 worst transfer dealings is an outgoing: letting Tielemans leave for free. When we were linked with Skipp I rolled my eyes and said "knowing us we'll go and hand them £10mil for him". No matter how bad you think it is, it's always worse.

Not because he's ex Forest but because he made awful signings, horrendous tactical decisions (playing JJ as RB, RM and RW) shows he was clueless. That transfer window was an utter disaster. Still makes me smile even with bin juice going over the shoes!

I think this is about right though. Although the combined no signings in summer followed by Faes, Kristansen, Tete, Souttar in Jan whilst going down by only 2 points has to be up there.

Unless you're saying Spurs had an IOU with us for them paying £40mil for Maddison instead of haggling and cashed it in to make us pay £25mil for Skipp. Which doesn't make sense as £40mil was a fair price for Maddison. Whatever way you spin it we have been fleeced. You’re looking at it the wrong way. We didn’t buy Skipp to “offset money owed.” The simple point is that Skipp didn’t actually cost Leicester £25m. Cooper wanted him, and both clubs structured the deal so it appeared as a £25m purchase for PSR. That number is just the accounting figure — not the real cost to us — because Spurs still owed us money from the Maddison deal. If we were paying £5m a year for Skipp while Spurs were still paying £8m a year for Maddison, we’re still £3m up each year. Over the term, that’s a £15m surplus. So when you look at the real cost, Leicester effectively took Skipp + £15m instead of waiting 5–6 years for the full Maddison instalments. We needed a premier league player for a survival push, and Cooper believed Skipp could help right away. The “£25m for Skipp” figure is just the PSR number — not what we actually paid, or the real cost to us. That's what I'm saying. Edited 29 June by CarolinaFox

You're going through a lot of mental gymnastics to justify this transfer. If we paid £15mil and Skipp for Maddison then that would make Maddison an £18-20 mil player as Skipp is worth £3mil at best. This simply doesn't track. Within reason Maddison is a £40mil player so £15mil + Skipp for Maddison must mean that Skipp cost the club £25mil, which he did. If the point was to get the money up front we do that already by taking out loans from Macquarie against future installments so that doesn't work either. Whichever way you look at it we massively overpaid for Skipp, probably 10x his real value. Edited 29 June by honeybradger 1
