He will give up at least one guilt edge chance a game. Souttar didn’t look convincing either against Northampton, if that’s because his head is elsewhere I don’t know. But the CB and CDM’s are genuinely a major concern. I can’t believe I’m saying this, because I can’t stand him, but maybe Hamza is the profile of player we need in the midfield, he’s dog muck, but the one element of his game that’s somewhat, acceptable is he puts himself about and is physical, which Skipp isn’t. I guess we won’t really know until full time…… all I know is I’m really not looking forward to it and have a horrible feeling about it. 1

So we’re going to give them a platform to show the better version of themselves.” That immediately made me think we’re going to see a few names today that most of us would probably rather have moved on by now. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if there are one or two selections in the XI that cause a bit of a meltdown on here, and rightfully so. We never learn! 1 1 3

I think it is perhaps normal if somewhat arrogant for a new manager to give the players that have consistently failed a chance to redeem themselves. Let’s hope he’s right and they can “show a better version of themselves”. I am not convinced though.

Merchant_Banker Posted 15 August Posted 15 August (edited) I would like to see us drop Skipp and play Braybrooke and Page in midfield. I don’t think Skipp is that good defensively and Braybrooke had reasonable defensive stats last season. More importantly, when Skipp receives the ball from the CBs all he does is play it back or play it to the full backs. Both Braybrooke and Page can progress the ball and play forward. They will take more risks than Skipp and will lose the ball more often, but this means the point of failure is in midfield, not CB and the defence is in a better shape to defend. I'd prefer if he came out and said we can't afford another striker so we are using the players at the Club. 2
