Interestingly wasn't Aluko considered one of the more powerful U21 players we had, bursting past players, scoring and creating from RB?

As far as I'm aware isn't he also the most versatile, being capable of playing LB and CB? I appreciate he's currently quite lightweight to be a CB in men's football but maybe longer term he could provide that option.

I think we should just be brave and chuck Aluko in at LB.

Agree.

Thomas needs taking out of the squad for his own benefit.

Aluko starting LB with McFarlane on the bench and pushing Aluko for a starting spot.

Aluko is definitely the quicker of the two.

JJ is clearly quick but Aluko is probably one of the quickest in the squad.

A big reason why I’m pretty desperate for him to get a regular spot in the starting 11!

If you've watched a lot of him fair enough, from the few first team games I've seen him play he's been deceptively slower than he looks. But again I really haven't seen much of him.

Hmm - i think at this early stage we should be more careful. Aluko had a massive setback last season and i think we should play him in his strongest position. Aluko should get plenty of game time rotating with JJ. Surely we signed McFarlane for LB?

We did. He was injured for the Northampton game but was on the bench last weekend. The fact that he didn't get a single minute despite Thomas's clear struggles is slightly perplexing.

It’s very early days and we don’t need to panic. Thomas was ragged but not our biggest problem. I was by the dugout against Northampton and Brussel spend the whole game yelling at Luke. If it’s just an early fitness thing with McFarlane then he will get his chance.

I would imagine that JJ is getting a slight nod over Aluko in the starting RB position because Aluko is currently also covering for the CB positions, no point risking him getting injured starting at RB or being gassed if he's needed at CB but then can't shift over.

I’m not so sure.

JJ looks more suited to playing as an IWB while also looking much stronger physically and 1v1.

It'll be interesting once the CB positions are sorted either way for sure, but RM did state that Aluko was covering the CB & RB positions on Saturday hence why no recognised CB was on the bench.
Flexibility of players will be key now we only have the 7 bench slots, for instance if Aluko starts at RB would JJ make the bench over, say Hamza, we all would say of of course he would/should, but given his flexibility (regardless of inability in each of them) Hamza would probably get the seat.

We will start to see more from him and Burns once Skipp gets dropped for a player that wants to make a forward pass and progress up the pitch.

Too often he has the ball and Skipp is commanding the players to pass back no matter what. Of course Sammy and JJ won’t ignore him as he has the experience, yet they have the ability.

I did love me some flexible multi-position subs in FM, and that's something I can definitely agree with in real life, too. (depending on the players).  :D

I think this is where his loan spell at Tranmere last season has given him the edge. Played a couple of dozen games for them, whereas Aluko got minutes here or there.

Is steadily becoming our biggest saleable asset isn’t he??

Early days but genuinely can’t find a fault in his game.

A modern day FB, who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and can defend well in one on one situations.

It's partly how the club should be styling itself for a potential buyer - that there's a conveyor belt of lads that inside two years could  yield a combined 60m+, should the new owner choose to cash it in
