Calm heads. I know that's difficult for some of you!

If we'd nicked it 2-1 today - the table and the comments would be very different.

That's true. But the majority would still be the dafties for thinking its all good.

Its not like anything will change, we'll still have a manager neutering one of the strongest squads this league had seen

That's the whole point.... we didn't and more worryingly we don't know how to finish a team off or shut the opposition out

This comes up a few times and i actually take issue with it. I think in terms fitness, the players put a shift in. Too much of a shift in fact.

If you look at the Stats today you can see the issue. 84% possession in the 2nd half. 675 passes to their 165. The 2 CB's 226 touches between them.

To get the ball out of our 3rd we have to play about 6 intricate pin point perfect passes with each player moving into space as they are being pressed by the opposition, and then if we cant get out of the 3rd the ball is either lost or back to the Goalkeeper. The system is absolutely exhausting to the players both physically and mentally. The opposition barely have to do anything, as we are playing for them as well. They have to intermittently press (and often not that hard) and wait for us to overplay ourselves into danger.

I genuinely dont know how they do it.  When it goes wrong (Oxford, 2nd Half Stockport) is completely draining. The system completely works against the players and is so easy to play against. Its not because they are unfit, its because they are being worked 4 times harder than the opposition.

Also, Luke wasnt a problem today. I dont like Faes being back but he is better than Souttar. Although i want our main CB pairing to be O'Hara and the Finnish dude moving forward.

This is a really good point. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Enzo ball at the time, purely not my idea of entertainment for much of the time. Obviously take those day back in a heartbeat now!

But it was always said that the idea of having possession meant that it tired the opposition chasing shadows until we could wear them down and punish them. As an aside, another theory behind having high possession is that the opponent can’t score when you have the ball.

Why or why then, do we have a manager whose idea of possession football means we are the ones exhausted due to the way of playing and give up so many chances that even if we have 80% of ball, we still ship a couple of a goals a match! Make it make sense!

Can't you see we're are struggling against poor sides.

This is self inflicted.  We have the squad to piss this.  We have an idiot in charge

Possibly but we said this with Marti. We replaced him with a manager who had a good Championship record but still went down.

Since when did Rowett have a good championship record I cannot recall him

ever getting a team from the championship promoted? He was busted flush when we hired him.

This one was purely down to tactics - the playing out from the back, slow build up - they are a man down! This was a loss in my book.

Agree with this about tactics and feels like a loss, but whilst Alves and Braybrooke had good chances to score I don't agree with all your comments about them.

Alves should have scored and done better with the cross for Riis.

He's very creative, linked well with Thomas for the goal and also created a very good chance for Cullen 2nd half.

He's much better than Watson and no comparison between the two IMO.

RM has built a team with too many similar players, Watson, Burns, Chaplin, Howell, Cullen.

We lack any fight, Riis is a good player, physcial, held up the ball and linked play but we never created anything for him.

The problem with RM is we just don't create and have enough goal scorers. It's like watching  academy football.

The goal was nice but we gift the opposition so many easy goals and chances.

For every 1 big chance we can create playing RM ball we gift at least 3 for the opposition.

It's just shit and not worth the over complicated coaching and effort to play this way.

Reflecting on the game again this morning, our main issue yesterday was an utter failure to recognise the game situation at key moments. That's on the manager.

1. They get a man sent off after 25 minutes, already 1-0 down. They're on the ropes. Score another now and we can put the game to bed. But there's no change to the system, no added urgency. Possession still the name of the game. For the last 3 minutes of the half we're content to pass the ball between ourselves while Barnsley are more than happy to go into the break with just the one goal deficit.

2. Aluko has a knock and is on a yellow so Brussell takes him off. Instead of looking at the game situation and perhaps moving to a three at the back or shifting Faes to right back, he makes a like for like sub, putting on Coulibaly who has barely played and doesn't offer the same threat going forward that Aluko does.

3. Barnsley are clearly happy to sit in and their main threat is to knock it long over our midfield and use Cleary's pace. We had a couple of warnings here but continued to play a very high line, with clear instructions that our centre halves should have plenty of possession on the halfway line.

4. After they score, we take off Braybrooke and Cullen and replace with Burns and Watson. Alves seems to drop inside but him and Page are now operating in similar areas and keep getting in each others' way. Burns and Watson are ineffective and we struggle to create changes. Still no change to the overall system which relies heavily on the centre halves drawing the press. As Barnsley are unwilling to press and happy to sit in, this is ineffective and means the centre halves push up. This gives Barnsley more opportunities to play over the top, which they do, creating a couple of good chances.

5. With no second striker on the bench (Bristic not in the squad), Bobby Reid comes on at 86 minutes as a second striker, with little effect. Too late to make a difference, arguably.

That is a good point.  That squad should have been challenging at the upper end of the Championship, as we were at the beginning of the season.  It is disgraceful that they got caught in a spiral and a team full of players with Premier League careers or players that had previously won the championship title got relegated.

How that happened is another discussion but we have an almost entirely different squad of players now that should be bossing this league.

I keep saying this, but for anyone that has any doubts that this manager sets us up to fail I would say please go and look at the kind of goals we are conceding.

There was definitely talk of what a good Championship record he had when we appointed him - didn’t he impress at Birmingham, Derby and Millwall?

He was fairly steady earlier on but nothing more than that, but I think he regressed at each of the clubs he was at, we only have to look at last managerial post at Oxford to see he was on a downward trajectory yet we still hired him.

I thought he went in at Oxford when they were in trouble and kept them up with a fine run.

Hmm, why do the fans moan when we’re on our third season of a never ending losing streak, relegated twice in a row, and stinking up League One with a manager nobody wants 🤔

and why are they moaning towards him more than the board who have appointed these managers time after time after time, vent the angry more at them imo

either way, being leicester manager is a poisioned position, because some fans will want them out within 4/5 games, just the facts

If we'd nicked it 2-1 today - the table and the comments would be very different.

I agree.

I think Martin has enough to keep us up. All the doom mongers talking about triple relegations are ridiculous.

We are on for 59 points and last year Exeter stayed up on 52. In Russell we trust.

Wouldn't even have needed to nick it.

If anyone (especially Watson) could shoot, we'd have won 3-1 or 4-1.

3-0 or 4-0 if O'Hora doesn't do one of the worst passes ever seen.

Fine margins and all that.

His.methods have already been proven not to work, one win in 16 for rock bottom Saints in the premier league.  Drummed out of Glasgow after 17 games with half the win rate of his predecessor and it's all unravelling again here.

How much more evidence is needed?

I’m not defending him, I’m only interested in LCFC and not RM. 90% of me agrees that he’s never going to succeed, but there’s a slither of uncertainty that just maybe we start finishing the chances we created yesterday, that gives the defenders a bit more confidence, we keep some clean sheets, the fans start getting on board and we turn this doom loop around….

It’s the eternal optimist in me that keeps me supporting this sh!t show!!!

If? On any other day? If we only had a bit of luck.

We used all our luck up against Stockport. Can't keep saying these things.

The faults of this system are clear, despite being down to 10 Barnsley still had 3 big chances to our 4. Until Martin gets serious about suring up the defence then he won't be a decent manager.
