When we played our U21s in this comp (and when we now do so in the National League Cup) it was quite exciting to see how the young lads would fare against senior teams.

 

Now, it's just a little embarrassing watching our senior players completely blow the opposition away.

 

And yet more embarrassing when we concede YET ANOTHER goal from an error passing it around at the back.

 

Okoli and Thomas in that abhorrent sequence were just truly dreadful.

 

Pleased for Bristric and Watson in particular. Hutchinson looked bright when he came on but I can't see him supplanting Burns and Howell just yet.

 

Neale was very tidy in possession when he came on.

 

Not really much else to learn I guess. The positives being that Braybrooke and Alves kept their levels up and it's minutes in the legs and decent practice at Martin's style of play. The downside is they'll never get that time and space again all season.

Think this sum us up, we are a good at under 21s level with players that are over 21s minus the odd few under 21s. Yaay (not)

Agreed, based on tonight I think he is far more suited to replacing one of Page or Braybrooke and bring the energy than Doyle on his showings to date.

I find it bizarre he hasn't been involved a little bit more given how he performed in pre-season, Carr too.

With Carr we have multiple wingers in front of him Neale probably should have at least made the bench before we signed Lundstram

I know the opposition are Academy, but Fulham arent one of the worst, and this will be full of players who would be hoping to knock on their first teams door one day.

 

But the thing that really stood out to me was has how much better Braybrooke (i thought he was the best player in the pitch), Alves and Aluko looked than any one in their side, by some considerable margin. Obviously i know that all 3 have made the jump to first team football, but there was a massive gulf in quality between them. Further cements to me that the best players in our squad are those who have come through the academy.

 

I also felt Hutchinson looked really lively and didnt look out of place in the team. Annoyed his shot didnt go in - certainly has an eye for goal. If we didnt have do many wingers i would hope to see more of him.

 

Okoli made i think 2 clangers, Woyo is woeful, and im not sold on Doyle at all. O'Hara needs to get his sh1t together too. Although im glad Watson got 2, his decision making still concerns me. He should have had 4 (which sounds terrible, but we need to be as clinical as possible).

 

Also, nice to see Ben Nelson in the crowd walking around without any visible support.

Salute the 1,706 fans that attended tonight, about 1,000 more than I expected. Very devoted fans or just wanted to get away from the mrs this evening lol. They seen few goals at least. Sadly difficult game to judge 6-1 sounds great but up against under 21's Fulham side you simply just can't read into it much. Our defence is seriously bad, to still concede one goal against a youth side is not great. Cannot keep a clean sheet to save our lives.

I think when it gets to the knockout phase, if got drew away to somewhere decent like Chesterfield away or Port Vale away, teams we haven't played in a competitive  match for a while there would draw more interest plus not far too travel. I could see Leicester take 1,000 to both of them games.

The lad enjoyed tonight, and to be honest I did a little 🤣 but what will get under my skin is if they get to the knockouts and a game like you’ve suggested and they decide to start on 800+.. surely there’s a way they should say if you’ve attended all 3 then you get first dibs.. I know it’s a common theme the away tickets priority, but there will be people who don’t go to any yet grab a knockout ticket straight up. 

yet some people who have went tonight and walsall won’t get a look in..

Agree with everything here. The kids (mainly B3) seemed to have the time of their lives. 
 

It’s only his second appearance, but I thought Doyle was well off it. Looked completely destroyed after 50 minutes. 
 

I’m firmly Martin out but he played it perfectly today. It did seem like a no-win game but we played great football, bagged confidence-boosting goals and gave minutes to fringe players and youth.

Just watched the highlights, what were EFL thinking in terms of allowing premier league under 21's to enter the competition, as they say it's Men vs Boys. For the Fulham youngsters tonight there not going to learn and develop much after being battered 1-6. For league one and league two clubs it just totally devalues the trophy and as you seen every player that scored tonight just couldn't celebrate. Every player that scored seem to look guilty after they scored. For the fans we win 6-1 and can't exactly feel enthusiastic due to opposition.
