Enjoyed Spider-Man BND. 

 

Definitely the most visually interesting Spidey flick since the Raimi years. Some brilliant swinging/traversal sequences and stunt work. They've been quite open about nicking stuff from the comics for the fans but there was definitely some stuff from the video games in there too. 

 

Sink is a good choice as (redacted) and will thrive if they cast well for the rest of the characters she hangs with. Haven't seen many rumours though.

House Of Dynamite on Netflix is watchable 7.5/10, Idris Elba plays the US president.

Yeah, Sink being (redacted) was one of the few beats I definitely didn't see coming from that one. Guess it does tie in well heading towards Doomsday.

Her role and actions wasn't particularly well thought out though.

Fair to say, I do think the whole thing did seem rather episodic in terms of plot delivery, but as per above the acting and stunt work were very good imo.

Saw it three times on the XPlus and enjoyed it each time. (Especially the second time, while strongly medicated...)

 

Then saw it on 35mm at the Phoenix last week and it felt so like such a different experience to the digital projection. It felt like I was watching something timeless this time around, like someone had found a bunch of film reels from the 50s and just released them in the cinema. 

 

Desperate to see it on the IMAX.

I think they were trying recapture the mystique (ha) created by the success of keeping Maguire and Garfield secret for the production and much of the release of NWH.

I can agree with the latter - while I do enjoy Marvel IMO they've moved on from having just hints about future projects to turning the entire plot into a trailer for other characters. It felt a bit like Sink's character (redacted) was serving plots for her future storyline in her character's movies instead of serving as the main antagonist in a Spider-Man movie. Whereas the Hulk served both in Thor: Ragnorok and his micro cameos in other projects. It's a delicate balance.

Both. 

 

Character wise - Without spoiling things, her character suffered from a double identity and her earlier actions were overlooked because of that change in perception. 

 

Writing wise - She made some strange decisions that overcomplicated what she was trying to achieve. But that would have made a much shorter movie. 

 

This guy sums up the issues. Whist I don't agree with him on Ned and MJ's roles, I agree with the other issues he had with the film. I quite like his grumpy critical style of videos.

Was surprised that this wasn't about Metallica.

 

It's actually about a young fellow that play drums in a jazz band while an old crusty **** yells at him.

Watched Tony at Phoenix 

 

Sunday morning done right. £18 with full brekkie thrown in 

 

full English was 10/10 and the film was great as well. Sort of like Bourdain’s origin story really rather than a fully blown biopic

They have done some casting announcements for the X-men, outside of Adam driver, Sadie sink and Inde Navarrette, don’t know the rest, I would not be surprised if they will lean to the 90s animated show for the initial x-men roster, 97 is a big show and Disney like their nostalgia

Evil Dead Burn was a decent watch... a few key 'had to look away' moments.

For anyone who likes the Evil Dead movies, you should check out the TV show Ash vs The Evil Dead if you haven't alrrady. More comedy heavy but I prefer that to the serious horror films nowadays which are, ironically, laughable.

Caught a cracking documentary the other day about four fish out of water sportsmen who compete in a completely different discipline via the guidance of a disgraced, wily old coach. Their endeavours unfortunately end in failure, but they gain the respect of their peers - a really gripping documentary

 

Give it a watch, Cool Runnings it's called

Remembering Sam Neill:

 

Sleeping Dogs (1977).

Beautifully shot (can't do much wrong in New Zealand), great performance by Neill as an innocent man on the run, facing a totalitarian regime.

 

Funnily enough, I had watched Species a few weeks earlier – done by the same director, Roger Donaldson.
