I've booked for Friday night. Still watching the old one, first half of decent but second half of absolutely shit!

The magic of the TV mini-series was that I was probably around the same age of the kids when it first came out, so there was a connection. You could feel with the group.

And as a youngster, Tim Curry as Pennywise is the epitome of scariness.

I find the critique aimed at the second part somewhat harsh, but from my perspective, at the time when I first saw it I couldn't relate to the protagonists and now, looking back, it hurts me to say but it hasn't aged that well.

Still, on the whole it's an outstanding piece of TV movie history.

Oh yeah overall I love the first and the second is incredible but in parts, like the restaurant part the acting is a bit cringe, and the end monster is shit lol.

I really want to see the new one again.

I want to see IT but I'll be annoyed if Pennywise is completely CGI the whole way through. Anytime a horror film uses CGI for scares doesn't really work on me.

He isn't. Not that I could see. At least, not all the time. Personally, I found the original Pennywise more convincing.

Cheers Col, I'll hopefully catch it at the cinema before it disappears.

Nocturnal Animals. 7/10

Stylish, arty thriller with Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams about a writer who sends his ex-wife his new novel to proof read and you watch the story through her and it intertwines with her own life, kind of. I

Iike Amy Adams but I don't think she's a top leading lady, a bit dreary and dull. Michael Shannon was the stand out for me, he plays a cop in the story and Jake Gyllenhaal is pretty standard in it. Some of the scenes are a bit harrowing and it was quite a tense watch and it kept me engaged throughout. Music was really great, reminded me of some old noir films.

and 'once upon a time in america''

Some peeps say the movies fit into different trilogies but I've not seen Once upon a time in America tagged with them.

Some say, Goodfellas, Casino and The Wolf of Wall street.

Some say, Goodfellas, Casino and The Departed.

All top quality movies :)

Great film. 'interesting' opening titles as well. Agree about the score as well...

Look Who's Back - 8/10

Very funny satire about Hitler travelling to the future and what he'd be like these days, adapting to technology and engaging people's views on Germany. Very clever, a bit like Borat crossed with Back to the Future but with some serious undertones.

Gattaca - 7/10

Thought this was a good film set in a not too distant, dystopian future. What you can achieve in life, your time/cause of death and your future ailments are all found out at birth. You're expected to live your life accordingly to how your genetics predetermine. Ethan Hawke plays a character who's determined to become more that what he is supposedly capable of.

Went to see IT last night, good film but i didn't find it scary, the child actors were excellent 7/10

I was really disappointed with it,

the first 10 mins was excellent but I found myself board,

i own over 400 horror dvds so I lm massive on horror, for me it wasn't scary at all,it's wasn't nothing like the original, which I read I was, penny wise looks great but again cgi ruins this film,

anyone that finds this scary or disturbing is light weight and really should watch the original,my only hope for the film is that when part 2 comes out is that that is better than the original, which was the only disappointment in the Tim curry version

Solaris - 5/10

George Clooney is a psychologist (I think) and gets asked to go into space to see what's happened to this crew aboard who send him a mysterious video message asking for help. I found it pretty tedious and very drawn out even though it had a relatively short run time. There's only two crew members left on board and they're having visitors in the form of people they once knew but they can't explain what they're doing there or what they want. It had similar themes to Sphere and Event Horizon but not as drastic.

Empire Records - 8/10

I really liked this, nice easy watch that reminds of some good old days. It just focuses on a record shops employees and their trials and tribulations of day to day life. Nothing to take seriously, kind of like a Dazed and Confused style film and Liv Tyler looks amazing in it.

Passengers - 7/10

Better than I thought it was going to be. 2 passengers of a space ship are woken up 90 years before it's meant to reach its destination of a new planet and can't get back into hibernation. They're the only ones on board and face a dilemma when the ship begins to have technical difficulties. It makes you wonder what you'd do in their scenarios which I liked but the ending is a bit of a disappointment.

There is such an eerie atmosphere about the first one and Pennywise is played unbelievably.

You almost don't care that the werewolf thing in the first looks naff, as does the monster at the end.

This doesn't really matter because the film gets you engrossed in it. And as I said before. For me, one of the problems of modern day horror movies is they are TOO graphic. This thing about having to see everything and it all having to be more  and more gory, leaves nothing to the imagination. This is why books still have their place and always will. When something gets ones imagination racing, it's at its best.

IT isn't really a horror movie, it is a coming of age story. Dealing with the pressures of abusive parents and bullies and being loser in a town that also has a crazy clown demon thing. It isn't really about the clown in the same way The Walking Dead isn't really about Zombies. From a pure horror point of view it doesn't work but as a film it does, if anything they should have played down the clown and blurred the lines between the real world fears and the supernatural shit.

I thought IT was average actually.  I dunno, maybe it's because I am older now but the TV series had this kind of overall sense of dread.  The new one looked good, everyone was fine but it didn't engage me much at all.  I think Stranger Things maybe ruined it for me too because that was almost perfect.

Only just found this thread.  Gonna be so annoying now as I fvcking love films n that.
