Got the cinema bug and seen a few lately

Unchartered - An easy watch, under two hours, think National Treasure. Probably give it another watch on TV at some point.

Dog - A vehicle for a dog and Channing Tatum with his guns out/top off barrelled along without ever really going anywhere. Inoffensive but nothing special.,

Cyrano - Definitely definitely not for everyone but I loved it. Peter Dinklage was magnificent.

I looked at those three and though "ugh". Couldn't be arsed to go see any of them, and I have an Unlimited Pass!

I mean, who the hell is Cyrano targeted at?

I went because it was £3 last Saturday. I get a free cinema ticket at the Odeon every Monday thanks to O2. Loughborough Odeon is a £5 anyway and free parking after 6pm in the Beehive car park means it's not expensive at all. I also like the fact that hardly anyone seems to go to the Odeon, I had a private showing of Nightmare Alley. As not a lot is being released at the minute there's not much out there I haven't seen.

As much as I liked Cyrano, I do question why they make films where the Box Office take is obviously going to be incredibly low.

I see the Leicester Odeon has about 8 showings of Batman at 00.01 on Friday morning and they seem to have sold quite a few tickets. Let's assume there's the usual 20 minutes of Ads and Trailers followed by a film with a running time of just under three hours, you'll be coming out at around 3.30am!! :nono:

I will go and see it but not at that time! I've seen the cinema trailer a few times and I know it's meant to be a little dark but i've no idea what the storyline is.

I recently switched from the decrepit local Cineworld which is 5 min away to the Odeon which is 15 min away. The sound and picture are much better because it was more recently built so they use newer tech.

Watched Whiplash last night, good film about Drumming and tutor pressure tactics.

It's very highly rated on IMDB (in the top 50), probably didn't think it was as good as that. Don't think JK Simmons performance was worthy of an Oscar either, maybe I'm being harsh.

7/10.

JK Simmons ought to win an Oscar every year for best supporting actor. He ought to win an Oscar for 'Burn After Reading' in which he's only on screen for four minutes, but they're four of the funniest minutes in film history. The problem with 'Whiplash' is that Miles Teller doesn't really connect with the audience. He was brilliant in 'Rabbit Hole', and I do understand that they had to find a drummer who was reasonably experienced and would be capable of being coached from match grip (which is what everyone uses when playing in a rock band) to traditional jazz grip, but he didn't cut the mustard with me as a drummer (though he does quite well) or a leading man. I wanted to like 'Whiplash' so much - and obviously a lot of people do like it - but the whole film was disappointing from my point of view. JK Simmons is God, it has to be said, and for that I give it 7.5.

Yep agreed, decent family film.

Kids were back from uni so we all did the Adam Project with beer and curry. We all laughed…but, just for once, I would like to see Ryan Reynolds play a character that isn’t Ryan Reynolds. I’m getting close to the point of wanting to slap his dumb face with every wisecrack comment.

The Cursed, a new take on the werewolf movie, decent acting if you like this kind of thing

Just been to see Phantom Of The Open.

Very quirky and down to earth, and very amusing. Based on a true story and something different to the recent big budget films.

Recemmended - 7/10.

The Batman

decent although a bit long

Going to see it later. Had free Odeon tickets for the last couple of Mondays but the start time and length of the film put me off on a work night.

If you are going to watch a movie this weekend, watch Boiling Point on Netflix, it's a frantic drama set in a restaurant and it's shot all in one take, it's an exceptional performance from Stephen Graham as the head chef.

Watched this and having worked in kitchens all my life it's pretty accurate how the restaurant runs. Good performances and very enjoyable, was it really all one uninterrupted take? I didn't spot any, though wasn't really looking for them as I was pretty engrossed, but often opportunities when a door is being opened or going from one room to another to sneak one in pretty seemlessly.

Not seen it but Stephen Graham rarely does anything I don't like so will give it a watch

The Batman: two really good hours, very atmospheric, great depiction of the city, great performance by Robert Pattinson, great when it is about the gangsters/nightclub/Gotham underworld. Then a third hour where its too talky, it focuses too much on The Riddler's stupid plan, and it wimps out massively at the end. A promising disappointment.

Ambulance: Flawed in many ways, in that its too long, too violent, sometimes too incoherent. But its also a pure adrenaline shot of 80s/90s action mayhem, and I found it gloriously entertaining. Die Hard meets Con-Air in a hijacked ambulance careering around LA, filmed by Michael Bay. Lots of people will hate it, I loved it.
