Another thumbs up for Top Gun. Most fun film I've seen at the cinema in ages. For me it's more that it represents something you see so rarely nowadays, a blockbuster with a simple straightforward story with fantastic practical effects supplemented with cgi only when it absolutely has too. The closest thing to an 80s/90s blockbuster film that you could get and it completely blows all the convoluted, cgi heavy Disney/Marvel bs out the water.  Fingers crossed the success of this film leads to more made in this style.

TG Maverick was sensational, best film I've seen at the cinema for a long time, if not ever. I urge anyone who hasn't seen the original to do so ASAP, then get yourself down to the Cinema.

Off to watch "Get Carter" on the big screen tonight.

Phenomenal film and accompanying soundtrack and really looking forward to seeing it again, probably for the 10th time.

Easily, Michael Caine's best work - a classic!

Brilliant film and yes Michael Caine's performance is quiet, menacing and top notch. In my old job had a telephone chat with Mike Hodges. Very friendly and happy to talk about Get Carter. Roy Budd's music is central to the success. My Mum's family came from Tyneside and as a boy I used to go on the ferry where the shoot out was filmed. All gone now. The picture captures the area before it was changed. Don't forget to have a pint after but in a thin glass!

A mate of mine at school used to do the impression and changed it to - "You're a big man, but your beans are out of date".

It was a really funny line for those of us in our year. He was an artsy guy and even did a birthday card for someone with Michael Caine holding a tin of baked beans on it, with the quote.

I often baffle my pupils by pointing a finger at them and pronouncing 'I KNOW' a la Caine...

Always liked Caine. South London like my roots. To think his breakthrough was playing posh Gonville Bromhead in Zulu. I understand the film was popular in army circles and he was invited to army dinners and the upper class officers were surprised when he spoke in his normal accent.

I thought I knew all of the great quotes like this one verbatim ("p*ssholes in the snow" still prob my favourite) but picked up on a new one at tonight's sitting.

When in Kinnear's mansion, card scene, and the woman says to Carter, "you're a clever sod!"

His deadpan response: "only relatively".

I think there was an in joke. In Kinnear's mansion there is a Zulu shield on the wall which looks out of place with the decor.

You were very fortunate to speak to Mike Hodges. He's created a film that, save for a couple of lines that would be frowned upon now,  stands the test of time. And as you say acts as a historical snapshot of times gone by. For a gangster movie It's also got that Ken Loach/Kes feel to it.

My grandad was a Geordie so I have images of him being in one of those pubs and turning away sharpish/staring down at his beer when psychotic Carter gives him the eye!

Agree that Budd's score is a work of art and central to the success. The same opening and closing music, accompanied by rail clack beat at the beginning and the swirling cold wind at the end, genius.

Mike Hodges said the Geordies were so friendly. I suppose we both have a connection with our relatives being locals but the film is surely one of the best British films ever. Cheers

Just got back from watching Jurassic World Dominion

Personally I really enjoyed it, a good way to end the franchise and wrap it all up.

My favourite of the World trilogy for sure, probably level with Lost World for 2nd overall, behind the OG of course!

For anyone who has read the book, it was good to see how they brought Biosyn into it all and bringing back Lewis Dodgson

Probably have to go and see it a few more times in the cinema as well, the end of probably my favourite film series!

Just back from maverick, absolutely stunning film, I cannot see anyone not likening this who liked the first, I’d go as far to say this is better then the original! Had everything you could ask for, love how it goes back to the original to, there are not many films out there  that the second is better, terminator 2 of the top of my head! Highly recommend people to watch this

Am I the only one who thought the original Top Gun film was shite, and has no interest in the sequel?

Yes!, but if it makes any difference I think the sequel is better, in my opinion
