Am I the only one who thought the original Top Gun film was shite, and has no interest in the sequel?

Yes!, but if it makes any difference I think the sequel is better, in my opinion

Must admit not really my cup of tea. Seems to be very well received.

Just got back from watching Jurassic World Dominion

Personally I really enjoyed it, a good way to end the franchise and wrap it all up.

My favourite of the World trilogy for sure, probably level with Lost World for 2nd overall, behind the OG of course!

For anyone who has read the book, it was good to see how they brought Biosyn into it all and bringing back Lewis Dodgson

Probably have to go and see it a few more times in the cinema as well, the end of probably my favourite film series!

The first 30 mins were pretty good but went flat after that.

I personally didn't enjoy it it just feels like the jurassic world series has been pretty much the same film remade 3 times.

I'd put the lost world ahead of it this one would slot it behind.

It was good to see the original cast back, the film doesn't have enough scare moments in it and standard big fight with the T rex at the end is rinse and repeat.

4/10.

Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Just ****ing incredible.

I mustn’t be very bright.

Everyone says the same thing, and yet I was confused the entire time :(

Even during the dildo fight?

Especially during that.

I remember thinking “am I watching the wrong movie?  WTF is this?”

*Spoilers*:

So the general premise of the film was that there are infinite parallel universes; the idea that every single decision you make can have a multitude of consequences which each branch off into their own reality. Usually this is referred to as the "multiverse".

In this film all the life choices Evelyn had made had led to her being in a dead-end marriage living in a flat above a laundromat with severe financial issues and a daughter Joy she's lost her connection with.

Somewhere in another universe however - the "alphaverse" - she had discovered a way to not just contact other universes but also communicate and take over the bodies of other versions of herself. The alphaverse version of Evelyn had died.

In the lift of the tax office the alphaverse version of her husband Waymond took over her body and taught her over the course of the meeting a) about these other universes and b) that she could access the skills of infinite other Evelyns and he would show her how, and c) there was a massive threat across all universes that was coming for her.

The way for normal people to access their other selves was through wearing ear devices and using certain senses - sounds, touch, smell, taste etc - to access certain skills from other universes. The massive threat turned out to be her daughter Joy's alphaverse version, who could access her other selves skills, clothes and accessories - everythingeasily without technology or performing something.

For example - Waymond eating lipstick gave him the ability to evade security; Evelyn telling Deirdre she loved her gave her kung-fu skills; and in the most absurd possible way other tax inspectors could access their own fighting skills only by having the IRS Inspector of the Month awards jammed up their arses. (I like to call this Checkov's Butt Plug)

Alphaverse Joy felt that nothing really mattered in any universe so created and "everything bagel" - literally a black hole - to absorb and destroy everything.

Alpheverse Waymond explains to Evelyn that this version of herself had made all the wrong choices in life and had become the worst version of herself. Which actually made her the most capable of destroying Alphaverse Joy. Alphaverse Joy kills alphaverse Waymond and Evelyn's mind splinters into ALL versions of herself, everywhere, unable to tell which is which. She finds herself in so many ridiculous universes - one with hot dogs for fingers, one where she's a chef and her rival chef has a racoon on his head like Ratatouille, one where she's a singer, one where she never went with Waymond to America and became a kung-fu megastar.

After finding a way to communicate with her daughter she discovers that Alphaverse Joy actually wants to use the "everything bagel" to destroy herself and had been searching for a version of her mother that could understand her. She nearly joins Joy in the "everything bagel" until another version of her husband convinces her to have hope and choose kindness over all other things.

Our version of Evelyn uses her multiversal knowledge all at once to find out what is hurting each of the fighters and give them something that brings them happiness. Evelyn reaches her daughter and reconciles, reconnects with her husband and confronts her long disapproving father. She also manages to confront Diedre the tax inspector and convince her to give her more time to fix her business.

By using everything everywhere all at once she's restored her reality, fixed her relationships with Joy, Waymond and her father, fixed her tax issues and secured her financial future, and welcomed her daughter's girlfriend into the family.

I've gotta say, as an aspiring screenwriter, I've always ****ing loved films that take an utterly batshit crazy concept and just fully commits to it. EEAAO had me from the first few minutes, (I nearly screamed when I realised the husband was SHORT ROUND FROM INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM!!!)

I thought it was smart, absurd, incredibly moving and times and extremely funny. Best cinema experience I've had for a while!

Everything Everywhere All At Once.

In one sense it's a very clever and well constructed film, but in another its just a haphazard mess. Weirdest film I've seen in a long time. No idea how to rate it or if I even enjoyed it.

War of the Worlds 2021 was on the box when I was having my dinner last night so left it on for a few minutes ...   what absolute cobblers ! ..  made in 2021 yet the 'special effects' would have made Ray Harryhausen wince ...  acting ?? ..  perhaps not the right word for it.        And as for the continuity ???!! ...   :D  see below ..   (same scene) ..

Top Gun I found is certainly a movie for the ladies. Romantic flick that as waiter thin plot with some really corny dialogue. However women loved it as Tom Cruise was in it, the heart throb at the time. Same really with Dirty Dancing and late great Patrick Swayze.

I believe the main issue is that there is some dispute as to whether they were friends.

Doesnt take away from the fact that it’s a great movie - but like a lot of Hollywoods “true stories”, it should be taken with a grain of salt.

The trailer was awful in my opinion but my word, Top Gun Maverick is one of the best films I've ever seen :appl:10/10

The referenced to the first one are top knotch as well. Tad emotional at times too
