Ric Flair Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Matthew Spring who plays for Luton. Wake up Ric Please re-read my post. Spring went back to Luton just a week or two ago. Had Watford been in for Williams 2 weeks ago, we possibly could have done a swap?
Manwell Pablo Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Please re-read my post. Spring went back to Luton just a week or two ago. Had Watford been in for Williams 2 weeks ago, we possibly could have done a swap? This is what confused me as well, obviously we've got our wires crossed but Boothroyd is only in for Williams as he's sold Ashley Young so they wouldn't of been in two weeks ago, they only way we would of got Spring is if he was still there now. In any case this is a silly discussion
Nationwider Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 I believe this is a good short-term move for LCFC. We won't miss him. GW has never suited us, and we don't suit him at present. He cost £0.5M and is one of our highest paid players - but we have never got value for money from him, and he has been one of our worst sicknotes in recent times. He has scored exactly twice in two and a half seasons in winning Leicester teams. His wages saved will hopefully supply two loan players in the near future. If the impossible happens and Watford stay up, I expect we'll receive a nice bonus fee as part of his transfer. I hope we've got a sell-on clause as well. I would be far more dismayed to lose Porter, Wesolowski, Hume, Fryatt, Kisnorbo or McAuley.

I can't see Watford having to seel Ashley Young to raise £150-200k for Williams. I'm sure they were going to strengthen their side whether Young stayed or not. It's not as if Williams plays upfront or on the wing is it? But you are right, it could be said for any player from a team we buy or sell a player to. But Spring is just what we could do with and I bet the fee's for both players were about the same.
RowlattsFox Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 i don't mind him going, aslong as a midfielder is coming in.
Wycombe Fox Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Today has got Rufus Brevett writen all over it! Good call FWYMW but for Rufus Brevett read Geoff Horsfield
City Fan Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 We have to find a replacement before the end of today. Our midfield is about as creative as a donkey as it is without us losing arguably our best midfielder. We could have signed Joey for 150K!!!! And the board can't exactly say we can't afford a replacement because we have just got rid of Low for 100K, O'Grady for 60k and Williams for probs at least 100K! Never mind all those wages freed up. We should be able to afford some loan deals as well. Tim Davies = willy puller.

Dames Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 I'd love to know how much they've paid for Williams. Undiscolsed fees shouldn't be allowed. Because its probably a really low amount, and the club knows the fans wont be too happy with Williams going and if the amount was low they would be far from pleased. And Also today is the day that we all realise we are run by a clueless bunch of old men, The team will have to try Triply hard now since we've lost another midfielder, and also the minor fact that we are staring league 1 and liquidation in the face.
Fox in a Box Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 He would have gone for a free in the summer do any cash would boost us at the rpesent and we have another week for loan signings anyhow RELAX... Cheers Gareth one of the more intelligent footballers ive seen at city. WESO is beter!
Leicfox Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Weso is just as bad, he's been finished already by rushing him back.
Thracian Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Weso is just as bad, he's been finished already by rushing him back. He's not finished but really should be treated cautiously for a while yet. We don't have to rush him. Porter, King, Hughes, Tiatto even Hume are perfectly capable of playing in midfield and are fitter for the job right now. I've mentioned "no unfit players" as one of Kelly points to put right and it applies to kids as well as old uns. We simply cannot afford to gvie ourselves handicaps.
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Weso is just as bad, he's been finished already by rushing him back Love the optimism! Writing off an 18 year seems slightly foolish!
davieG Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 I'm curious to know how selling our players affects the MM deal (if there still is an MM deal).I mean, if I was going to look at a house with a view to buying it and it had a new kitchen, conservatory and a swimming pool, I'd be pretty p***ed off if, during negotiations, they were all ripped out. The negotiations would have to start all over again. If MM thought he was paying for a squad that included GW then all of a sudden it didn't, won't he renegotiate? Unless he's sanctioned the sale or he knew about it during previous talks. It's all very confusing - I'm going to go and bury my head in the garden for the afternoon. I think you need to think of him as more of a lampshade or at best a rug.
Daggers Posted 31 January 2007 Posted 31 January 2007 Atm yes, But at the end of the season, we'll be the bastard Titanic.

I concur completely. and am completely underwhelmed by his departure, that said there is an urgent need to get in some replacements. If we don't then I will be extremely concerned.

Or on a more positive note it could have been for a tidy sum and the club don't want to alert people to the fact that we now actually have 25p
