I have mate, it’s mostly down to poor organisation this time.

I’ve had a couple of jobs overrun and a few get rescheduled due to materials not being available.
Instead of just being firm with dates I’ve just rolled over and I don’t know why I have lol.

Christmas break cannot come soon enough, I’m knackered already.

Probably because you care and don't want to let your customers down. An admirable trait but you end up shitting on yourself!

Sorry you're flat out right up until Xmas. As an ex retailer, I know the feeling :(

Fortunately I'm calling it a day next Friday 17th and not going starting again until Jan 10th. Three weeks off and I can't wait.

That’s what I planned to do, well similar. Unfortunately I just planned it in my head.

Been keeping my eyes open for new jobs for a while now. Turned one down last summer as it wasn't right and it paid dividends as our management changed and we all got a deserved payrise last christmas.

Got offered a new job today for a good company and it's a little step up which is great but I'm suddenly bricking it now!

Bricking it is good though mate, it shows it’s a challenge and you will probably have too raise your game.

Its what life’s about.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much room.

Shit day, shit week, shit month.

Everybody wants it all done before Christmas and I’ve gone totally against my MO of under promise and over deliver. I’m literally drowning in work and I’ve got to work the whole month every weekend right up to Xmas eve because I’m a twat. On top of that I’m supposed to be going on some product training that would be interesting but I’ve got to cancel as I just don’t have time.
Hope this new covid shit ****s off soon because I want to book a big expensive holiday in Barbados for my wife’s 40th. We’ve not been away abroad since July 2019 and I’m sick of it.

I hate this time of year.

I think we can all relate, mate.

I’ve done it a few times in the past and you find yourself waking up at 3am thinking ‘wtf have I done that for?’

Not sure if it’ll help you at all, but I started thinking of some of the jobs as a means to pay for ‘extras’ - for example, this job pays for a new whatever, that job will pay for the holiday, etc. It helped me quite a bit!

Head down, backside up (as I say to the missus), nearly there

Cheers Strokes. I completely agree.

I follow a youtube channel/brand, if you will, called Yes Theory who's motto and clothing line is called Seek Discomfort.

They've made some fantastic content all about seeking discomfort and it is so true that many positive experiences in life lie outside your comfort zone. Change can be scary and it can be difficult, but life is all about learning and having enjoyable experiences and you miss out on so much if you let that fear hold you back.

The funny thing really is just how quickly your perspective can change. Reflecting over the last couple of weeks, I've realised that my last few months at work have probably been my most enjoyable/contented and I will genuinely miss a lot about where I'm at now, but I know that professionally this is a good move for me and I'm really excited about it.

Anyway, I hope you get through your work and have a good break mate. I work in construction and the amount of seemingly arbitrary "we need it done before christmas" requests is silly. I'm sure it's similar for you with your (IIRC) security/alarms systems isn't it.

The best times through my career have always been just before I move on. I think because you know you’re leaving, you are at peace with things that might ordinarily grind you down.

I think happiness and contentment frightens me more than anything. Wtf would I moan about then?

Yes mate, mostly Fire alarms these days on a subcontract basis. I take the project at a set price then hand it over on completion. Normally I’ll spend 3-4 days a week on that and 1-2 days on local customers doing home security.

I really need another body to help, someone who can work on their own to a point but I’m too scared of commitment or them taking my contacts.

I’ve tried subbies but I’m yet to find one reliable enough and with a varied enough skillset to be worth what they want.

I can’t/won’t pay £180-£200 a day if I have to hold their hands on it. The money some of these guys get for having no clue is unreal.

The last guy I used wouldn’t fill out any paperwork but wanted to charge an additional £150 for commissioning, I said wtf do think commissioning is if it has no paperwork you twat?

Might look to get an apprentice in the summer if the work does not slow down.

But on a serious note congrats Tom you clearly do a great job

I try. I come from a background of managing pubs.

You don't have to do the hard sell, just chat to people, that's it.

100% people smell bullshit. And why pressure someone?

If I'm getting someone to part with 30k, I'm not winding up the pressure, I want to make sure it's the best thing for them.

That works for me and gets results still.

Ffs Deb, I'm sure I offered you advice on a car.

Brutal

lol

Haha sorry, it just tickled me, I love you really :kissing:

My next car won't be for a little while yet, but I'll be in the market for a left hand drive, Spanish plated auto, probably a Mazda CX 3 or a Seat Arona. Let me know if one pops up :fc:

I hate myself for liking my current car so much :)

Don't.

If it suits you, it suits you.

Unless you tell me it's a Dacia lol

What have you got?

Had a couple in earlier, lovely people, bought a Mondeo estate, brand new 20 years ago.

They're now looking for a newer car as its nearly dead and will fail its MOT in February.

They just want something to last them 10 years until they think they'll stop driving.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
