Blokes wearing a scarf indoors in the middle of summer.  Yes @StriderHiryuI'm talking about your colleague on blue tinted glasses.

Was at a loose end this morning thought I'd switch on the live chat thing.  Immediately see a geezer older than me wearing a scarf indoors.  I can't accept that Strider. Unless he's suffering from pneumonia.  Had to switch off.  Bet he queues in a pub.

The constant playing of Sweet Caroline at sporting events.

It is ****ing hideous.

Were you watching the dodgers v Red Sox baseball where they were explaining the origins of the song at sports. Mildly interesting but I agree the song is annoying. Had to sing it on karaoke at every bar we went to on my stag many years ago, and it was annoying then

People who seem to deliberately devalue human life by criticising the RNLI for doing their jobs; namely seeking to save any human life in distress at sea.

It’s not the RNLIs fault, the border force should have boats out there.

You know it and I know it.

Sadly that doesn't seem to stop what appears to be a large amount of people with a large amount of inhumanity and penchant for libellous commentary.

Those that have been persuaded that the small boats are the issue, rather than the very greedy rich bastards who have the vast majority of the wealth and the power.

Depends what people think "the issue" is.

Sales assistants that do not listen and continually try to sell you additional products.

Went to currys to collect a new computer, just a replacement as the old one died and they had given me a credit voucher for another one.

As soon as I was offered a MS product suite and the McAfree protection, I declined and explained I already had packages for everything.

Twice she tried again. And to sell me a VPN, power back, mouse mat and on she went.

When we got to the till she started again.

I'm not sure how many times I said no, I just want the computer.

I know they have to try upselling but surely I was clear the first time?

Can't both things be big issues?

I think if the amount of rich greedy bastards in the world was dramatically reduced there wouldn’t be any boat people in the first place

Both the greedy for money and (more importantly) the greedy for power.

People putting wheelie bins on pavements as opposed to the end of their driveways😂

Bins on pavements are unsightly and an undoubted obstacle, especially on narrow pavements.

However I, and I'm sure others too, have not had their bin emptied because it was not correctly 'placed' out on the street. My elderly Father in Law's was quite literally a couple of feet back from the pavement and was not emptied.

PS. Not everyone have driveways btw. :P

Can't one be massively bigger than the other?

They can.

But scale aside, the issue of the boat people is much more tangible and visceral, hence it's not unreasonable for people to view it as more pressing.

If you're a parent of a 12 year old girl in Nuneaton, for example.

I think many people in England see everything through a socioeconomic lens and don't accept that much else is important beyond income inequality and "rich bastards" hoarding wealth. Whereas for many others, things like culture, nation, demographics are still more important. An example of this is when working class people celebrate stuff like the coronation, a lot of the middle class believe they've somehow been tricked by the cunning rich elite, when actually for many it's an important part of their identity and therefore more important than economic concerns.

Having said all that, the small boats stuff is also about security, as you imply.

And then you have those who know how tribal divisions over anything like economics, demographics, culture or nation or other such matters ends, because history has been very clear on the matter.

And we're being blitzed with it, because people who do not have our best interests in mind are playing on - to use your words - the tangible and visceral. They're stoking fears so we don't blame them.

In other words, in the larger scheme of things, those (relatively) few people in small boats are an almost literal drop in the ocean, just as the German Jews that came here in the late 30s were.

Extremely minor gripe compared to ongoing global issues, but really wish Sky would stop showing "1 yellow card this season" after a player gets booked in the opening fixture.
