Berrettini beaten in 3 by Casper Ruud who I believe could become World Number 1?!

Wasn't much of a contest for the first 2 sets but Berrettini had a 5-2 lead in the 3rd and blew it.

Kyrigos beaten and I understand some of his rackets took a beating too !

Ruud v Alcaraz final .

Winner to become World Number one.

If it’s Alcaraz be the youngest ever I think ?

He's the first teenager to be number 1 I think. Youngest slam winner since Nadal in 2005 too. Be interesting to see if he can go on to dominate as the big 3 phase out.

Good final and his 3 previous matches all 5 setters.  Really good US Open, Women's final was decent too, shame for Jabeur.

Safe to say the guard has changed in the Mens, Ruud, Sinner & Alcaraz all look the part and 23 and under, Jack Draper at 20 may also figure too if he can kick on in the next 12 months.

Who know's when Novak can play a slam again, Nadal physically is in a bad place and he will be 37 next French (got to catch up sometime) and Roger is 41 and done I think (sadly), but the standard's been great the last few matches at the US.

And congratulations to Brit Hewett who won the wheelchair title beating Kunieda.

He had lost the Aussie open and Wimbledon to Kunieda and also had lost the previous 2 US opens to Kunieda.

Federer to retire. Makes me feel old that Serena, and now Federer have retired with Nadal and Murray on their last legs.

Whilst the other of the big 4 era have traits that make them unlikeable at times, Federer is a class apart.

Shame he couldn't go out on a win but this match will pale into insignificance to what was achieved in his career. What a player. Both him and Rafa very emotional at the end.

I notice they won the first set but guess the eventual happened and age /lack of matches told .

Both very emotional here .

Unfortunate for Radacanu.

Took the first set in her semi final but then suffered an injury in the decider when she was 3-0 down so obviously was affecting her game .

End of an era. A true great.

This era of tennis is like the Duran, Lennard, hagler, Hearns of boxing in the 80s.
