Chairman of the Bored Posted 17 January 2009 Posted 17 January 2009 Just read this. Ruined my weekend. Feel really sorry for the bloke. Was a MAJOR asset. Sure Nigel will sort but.........OMG!
Salieri Posted 18 January 2009 Posted 18 January 2009 Been away last couple of days so only just found out the news about the Tunch. Time for Hobbs/Morrison to step up to the plate. This could be the making of Morrison as he really has a chance to cement his place in the team and gain valuable experience. I would hope however that Nige is scouring the market for an experienced centre back, even just on loan to ease the pressure on our two young centre backs. Kisnorbo's back in a few weeks by the sound of it and although he isnt everybodies cup of tea, he will give us another option in defence. It's a blow without a doubt but I've complete faith that we will still go on and achieve promotion, we've still got a lot of very good players at this footbal club. Noticed we've signed that lad from Man Utd as well, he looks like an excellent prospect, good work Nige. So keep the faith people, and lets look forward to the Tunch returning to the side in our first match back in the Championship....
Alf Bentley Posted 20 January 2009 Posted 20 January 2009 Chant of "Only one Alex Tunchev" on Saturday?? (At an opportune moment, of course, don't want to unsettle the lads Morrison and Hobbs...) Haven't heard many songs for "Sasho" so far this year and he's true quality at this level and much higher. Could be a big player for a year or two yet. Let's make him welcome in his time of need!

Foxhateram Posted 6 March 2009 Posted 6 March 2009 In hope he will make a miraculous recovery and return to the fold on Saturday. Seen as Gradel returned after his thread, and we saw a red card after the red card thread. Do we think Tunch, Morrison, Gilbert (if he joins), Hobbs (if he joins), Mattock and Kisnorbo will be good enough next season if/WHEN we go up?

I'm hoping the tooth fairy brings me a million quid after this thread, or we sign the brasil squad on an emergency loan

Tunchev would almost certainly be good enough for the Premiership, never mind the Championship. If Morrison and Hobbs keep improving, as they have done this season, they have the potential to be good Championship players - maybe even to progress further - but only if they keep improving. If Gilbert and Mattock could achieve greater consistency within and between games, they could also be regular Championship players. I could see Gilbert staying, as I can't imagine him having a future at Arsenal. Hobbs seems less likely to stay, I'd guess, unless it was on loan again...only guesses, tho Kisnorbo has well-documented strengths and weaknesses: very good stopper, scores goals from set-pieces, but poor distribution...like Brown, maybe he could play alongside Tunchev and make sure that Tunchev did all the distribution work? Like Brown, could still be an asset in the Championship, given that we'd be on the back foot more...but only if he either learns to distribute better or keeps giving it to Tunch.
jimmer Posted 6 March 2009 Posted 6 March 2009 Surly It would pay to try and uncover another gem like Tunch. Its no good reverting to hoof ball tactics when one player is injured. Agreed Tunch paired with any other of our centre backs at the mo would be fab. But what will happen, god forbid, if he gets injured next season if we go up........better opponents Some extensive distribution lessons are needed on the training pitch!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 6 March 2009 Posted 6 March 2009 I wouldn't mind Brown staying too. In all fairness our defence will be (and has been for the last few years) the least of our worries.
davieG Posted 6 March 2009 Posted 6 March 2009 I wouldn't mind Brown staying too. In all fairness our defence will be (and has been for the last few years) the least of our worries. I thought Brown was appalling against MKDs front runners, based on that performance alone I'd be quite happy if I never see him again. He may be a man mountain when it comes to lumbering strikers but if they've got a minimum of pace he looks fooked!

He may be a man mountain when it comes to lumbering strikers but if they've got a minimum of pace he looks fooked! Agreed, he was turned or outpaced on just about every attack. This could have been vaguely excusable were it not for the fact he also failed to a) close down the forward for the first goal and b) block the pass that led to Leven getting through for the second. Absolute donkey.

He may be a man mountain when it comes to lumbering strikers but if they've got a minimum of pace he looks fooked! I thought Brown just had an off day - he got himself caught up too high up the pitch and also went too tight to his man. I think in a settled back four he'll show his worth. Granted, he is slow, but as long as you can see the danger early, you can often deal with it. From what I've seen and heard of him, he seems a great organiser of the defence and provides that leadership we've been missing for a good few years. I won't write him off just yet (and that's not suggesting you have!).

I know he got rave reviews in previous games and has the experience and personality to organise the defence I just can't help but feel we'll need someone with a bit of pace at CB, I don't actually think Tunchev is all that quick, intelligent maybe and as you say that can be a massive help.

Especially at championship level, where the level of quality forwards goes up dramatically.

Ozwin Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 Not heard anything recently but I presume he's pretty much on his way back now right?
StanSP Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 Not heard anything recently but I presume he's pretty much on his way back now right? He trained with the squad on July 1st, but apparently started a week before everyone else. There's a couple of pictures from the Training Photo Special on the OS.
smokey Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 Yes think he will be ok for new season if no setbacks. What about Stephen Clemence though? He is the captain of the club and nothing on the OS about him all last season and no mention of him so far this pre season. Anyone know anything on this?

It doesn't look good. Surely if he was back in training the club/OS would have been all over it.
Ozwin Posted 6 July 2009 Posted 6 July 2009 He's hardly our Captain anymore. You don't give Oakley the job for a whole season and then give it someone else as soon as they come back. Demotivating innit. Awesome, this is looking good:

Demotivating innit.Awesome, this is looking good: If Oakley is so demoralised by something like that I'd question whether he should be in the side at all, he would of known Clem was club skipper, when he accepted the armband last season, more to the point he isn't a great captain anyway, doesn't demonstrate great leadership qualities on the filed and was hardly leading by example all season, he played well last season no better no worse. Long term someone like Jack Hobbs should be captain but short term Oakley, Howard or even Tunchev (if his English is fluent now) would be fine, assuming Clem can't make the team
davieG Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Defensive strongman Aleksandar Tunchev will be ready for the start of Leicester City's Championship campaign. However, City boss Nigel Pearson says the Bulgarian international will not take part in either of tomorrow's friendlies at Loughborough Dynamo (noon) and Tamworth (3pm). Latest capture Richie Wellens will also sit out the competitive start of City's pre-season campaign after completing a reported £1.2m move from Doncaster this week. Tunchev – who is 28 today – has been out of action since suffering cruciate ligament damage to his right knee in an FA Cup tie at Crystal Palace in January. Tunchev's rehabilitation will continue during the week-long training camp in Slovenia and he is expected to be involved when the friendlies for the first-team squad resume at Mansfield on July 21. Pearson said: "He is back in full training, but he won't be taking part tomorrow. "Richie is also a week behind the rest, so he won't be involved. "Pre-season is all about making sure the players are prepared for the start of the campaign, so when it is right to play players we will field them. "The majority of the players will get significant pitch time tomorrow." Pearson is planning to be at both matches and said: "It might be something the fans will want to do, too." The City boss says he has been encouraged by the start of the pre-season campaign. "I've been very pleased with the first few days," said Pearson. "We had to be a bit sensible because it's usually very hot when the players report back and that was the case again. "Fitter players find it easier to cope in situations when there is a lot of heat. We've now re-tested them to see where they are compared to this time last season and they are in a good condition. "People here are confident and upbeat and want to get the fans right behind us. These are exciting times." The crop of reserve and Academy players remaining at City during the Slovenia trip will be involved in two matches. There is a friendly at Hinckley United next Wednesday (7.30) and at King's Lynn next Saturday (3.0).
Finnegan Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Why the fook should Clem be handed the captaincy back? It's not like he was our life long skipper or a club hero or something. He was just the most senior player in a very crap squad that went down. The question shouldn't be why Clemmence shouldn't get it back, but why Oakley should have to give it up?
