Tommeh Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Just got back. Dead. Was far too tired/hungover to to really take everything in but great battling performance. Bunn, Gilbert, Brown, King and of course Steve were immense, massively improved performance from Mattock too which was nice Nigel at the end was fantastic, we've got a right Gem here. Also managed to keep up my affair with Bruno Berner, always give me the eye after the aways
Cobbo Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 I can't ever see our OS being this opinionated in their official report. http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/page/MatchR...1565351,00.html Describing the penalty in their favour as a "terrible decision" and a "farcical spot-kick". They are very bitter - even with the terrible penalty (which was for us by the way: "The match was spoiled a tad by a referee who made some terrible decisions, awarding the visitors a ridiculous penalty and then deciding to make up for it for the rest of the game with a series of silly free-kick awards against the hosts.") "In the context of the match this was definitely a missed opportunity for Rovers. Leicester looked pretty ordinary, and certainly nothing like the quality of side that might be expected to command such a healthy points lead at the top of League One." - charming. "But the away side's direct style of play did bring about the game's only goal midway through the first half, after the referee awarded a soft free-kick against Craig Hinton." Up yours. I think Howard's going to get Ian Cole too.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Also managed to keep up my affair with Bruno Berner, always give me the eye after the aways lol First I've heard of this, sounds nice.

Tommeh Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 lol First I've heard of this, sounds nice. Yeah pretty much started at Yeovil, same again at Hartlepool and today pretty much confirmed it.....Not really into all this man love but I'd take him over some of the scrag out in Bristol last night.
syston_fox Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 Great away day as always and great to see so many faces from off of here round and about the place - it really adds to the experience when you see people you know at every turn!
Katy Posted 21 February 2009 Posted 21 February 2009 That sounds funny. It was terrace at all costs. I hadn't had a chance to change mine this week so I rang LCFC this morning who said no can do. Then rang Bristol Rovers who said no can do. The woman I spoke to there was very short with me and said there was absolutely no chance I'd be able to stand on the terrace. I was livid and actually had a bit of a sulk about it. Me and Holly begged and pleaded with the bald guy on the terrace and he gave in eventually. Think she charmed him. What a hero he turned out to be. Brilliant day. Ha, myself and Ella had no problem on the blagging front. I said to him that I needed to get something off someone in the there and he said "Ahh you just want to get in the terracing" and I said " Of course not, I have a child with me! (shocked face) he knew though haha. Cracking result, we really deserved that. Bunn was immense and Big Steve was great, especially when he was offering the Bristol keeper out - what a machine!
Thracian Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Do you have some sort of problem with that? I say the referee was right but that I personally thought it harsh in the circumstances. Are you somehow saying that a person cannot be right - yet harsh? Perhaps you've never been caned.
Thracian Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Well not clearly enough says Mr Pearson "I have seen the incident which led to their penalty again. Jack went to clear the ball and it has bobbled. Kerrea Gilbert was also around the area, so it is debatable whether he was the last man. I don't think it was intentional, so hopefully the referee will have a look at that one. "It was unfortunate. Jack has said to me that he doesn't know how he missed the ball. But I was in line with it and it did take a nasty bobble. It was a difficult surface for the players on both sides to move the ball around on. Edit to say that it sounds like a peno, but the clumsy and late etc seems harsh Good to hear him refer to shit pitch - it played like a patch of mown meadow grass.
MPH Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Yes, the one and only. I got the whole box-set. The mans pure quality i have season 1 but yet to get season 2....

I was livid and actually had a bit of a sulk about it. Me and Holly begged and pleaded with the bald guy on the terrace and he gave in eventually. Think she charmed him. What a hero he turned out to be. Brilliant day. It sounds like you had the same problem as me. Every steward I asked said that I had absolutely no chance of transferring onto the terrace. I mean fair play, if we'd have sold out I could understand not being allowed to transfer to the terrace but we had something like 300 tickets unsold. It's not like I wanted a £2 refund on my seating ticket either. I thought the stewards were some of the most unhelpful I'd ever come across. They only had to use a little common sense to let us onto the terrace but they never actually let me get my point across and kept telling me I was wrong. Thankfully, after using numerous excuses and around 20 minutes of persuading the supervisor, common sense prevailed and I managed to blag 6 of us onto the terrace. Fair play to the supervisor though, he did everything he could to get us onto the terrace because others wouldn't have. I probably should have tried to switch my ticket last Saturday but forgot to take it with me and didn't have time in the week. I definitely won't be making the same mistake again.
Matt Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Just seen the highlights on the championship, good goal by Fryatt on another day might not have gone in, The peno just looked like a collision nothing too bad, a peno and sending off is very harsh I think, The save was brilliant!
AoWW Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Fantastic day. Great result and an entertaining game to watch... loved the banter and non-stop singing. Seemed to me that the 'willy puller-element' of our support weren't in attendance either... brilliant atmosphere. Nice sunny day, straightforward journey (even if it was a bloody long way - 500 mile round trip), fantastic company, no hassle (though The Anchor pub... too busy to let more people in...wtf?). So glad I didn't miss out on this one - if only all away days were this good.
Tilley Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Would just like to highlight the reactions of the players & in particular Pearson at full time. Nige earned my full respect yesterday, ordering everyone over to the fans to clap us. A few in particular, Howard with his clenched fists & big grin, Berner coming over getting the fans going shouting, 'Come on!' Mattock punching the air, shouting 'Fucking, get in!' I could go on.. But it just shows that this is a bunch of players who are playing for each other, playing for the boss & playing for the fans. This is a bunch of players that you feel you have a relationship with. Pearson was so pleased with the win yesterday, that picture that someone posted from the OS shows this. He didn't stop on the touchline yesterday, he kicked every ball & dare I say it, it was like watching MON. What a guy.
Flynny Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Looked at the table about 5 times today already.
Koke Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Looked at the table about 5 times today already. You're not the only one, sweetheart.
Corky Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Sir Fynwy summed it up at the end- Pearson has got them playing as a team, for the manager, the fans and each other. He deserves so much credit, and before anyone says "It's the 3rd Division"- how many people expected us to be 12 points clear at the top in late February?
Babylon Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Looked at the table about 5 times today already. Only 5? I'd checked it 6 times before breakfast!!! :-)
maddog Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Only 5? I'd checked it 6 times before breakfast!!! :-) I keep looking at it too. Its weird that we are the only team to have played 33 games. Scunny are our nearest rivals for 3rd now IF they win all their games in hand even after losing at Swindon.
jimmer Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Fantastic day. Great result and an entertaining game to watch... loved the banter and non-stop singing. So glad I didn't miss out on this one - if only all away days were this good. There were a few sat behind me! but agreed fewer than normal! Good away support, only heard the home fans a couple of times all match! Top of the league n were avin a laugh! Fantastic result, loved NP and the players reaction after the game. You can see it means alot to everyone involved. Although we were under the cosh for majority of the second half I thought it was an entertaining game. Howard and Philips Howards gonna get ya! Memorial ground........Shithole. Refreshments...hmmm. Toilets, not even going there! But I think worst of all was the lack of pubs for the pre match pint or three! I was devastated, couldn't get in anywhere!!! Glad the result put a smile on my face
JoeyB Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 I loved the fact that one steward had no teeth, then 2 mins later his brother came down, had no teeth, and had glasses that looked like they hadn't been cleaned for about 5 years. all in all was a great day out, even better with 3 points. Bunn and Howard are Gods!
Bert Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 It's always harder to score past 10 men, the team with 10 men raises their game that little bit more, we've seen it ourselves, just two weeks ago. Playing with 10 men, also meant that we had to actually play it around a bit more, we couldn't just lump it up to Steve to flick on, 'cos he had no-one up front with him.
Milans Foxes Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 Wot an awesome day!! Apart from the lack of pre-match away pubs, the day was perfect! Great result, passionate performance, if not lacking in quality and some great banter! Highlights- -the goal, obviously -Bunny's penalty save. I was so scared it had squirmed underneath him for a while -hilarious banter aimed at Philips (Wales no. 1) -Howard's late, late tackle on Philips, followed by a "come and say that to my face" and "Howard's gonna get ya" and " ur scared, and u know u are"! -the fist-pumping pearson and players at the end of the game (this made me proud to be a city fan again) -general chanting and banter aimed at the away fans, even if they didn't respond, (barry hayles is bigger than this!, small town in wales etc) -groundsman at the end. If anyone was still there at the end, they'll know what i mean, when the supervisor guy took his fork off him and sent him off was one of the funniest things I've eveer seen! (sack in the morning, sack in the morrrrrrning!) Howard was superb!! Absolutely ran his socks off, especially when down to ten men!! Great support from our fans, was standing all game, even so I was in the stand!
