Fazackerley Joins Foxes - OS

He looks like a very good appointment with vast experience in the English game and has some knowledge of the football league with Huddersfield.

A very good appointment who not only can coach and organise a defence but he has a lot of experience as a scout so he might be behind some of our signings from the lower leagues and Sven will use his reputation and contacts to attract the more established players. Keen.

Just spoke to my mate who is a Huddersfield fan who has a high opinion of DF. Seems as though he is very much the brains behind the operation there and does a lot of the hard work in relation to formations, tactics etc. Seems like a good appointment to me as I can't see Sven as being someone active on the training pitch every day.

This should also help give some experience to CP who in my opinion has the makings of a very good manager.

I'm sure there is a big named footballer that doesnt like Fazackerley, think it might be Gerrard. If it was I think I read that in his book, not that it at all matters!

Nobody outside Merseyside likes Gerrard anyway.

There's been a few comments that Fazackerley coming as Sven's Assistant will mean that he won't be calling on the services of (his long standing assistant, 72 year old) Tord Grip. Talking to a journo friend at the Nottingham Evening Post last night (who covered most of the 'Sven story' with County), Tord IS also coming to us - but as a Part-time 'Football Advisor' - a role he also did at County. Tord apparently did a lot of (European and international) Scouting for Sven and came in (fairly often) to advise on long-term football strategy and gameplans for some matches. My mate has heard that he will be doing pretty much the same thing for City.

Well there's 1 England player Sven won't be getting on loan.

What went off there then???

Gerrard basically accused Fazackerley and some other coach that they "made him feel like shit" when he was on England duty in his early career. That's about all I know.

I wonder how he ended up at Huddersfield though after such prominent employers :dunno:

He coached Lee Clark before so maybe he wanted to help out a friend?

Because they told him to stop getting schoolgirls pregnant?

Gushing Reed not up to speed with grim truth about Gerrard

David Ornstein The Guardian, Friday 15 December 2006 Article historyLes Reed will reserve a particularly warm handshake for Steven Gerrard when Charlton welcome Liverpool to The Valley tomorrow, reliving fond memories of their time together with England at Euro 2000 and apparently unaware that Gerrard claims Reed made him "feel like shit".

The Charlton head coach made clear his admiration for Gerrard yesterday, perhaps not realising that the midfielder had lambasted him in his autobiography. "Steven Gerrard came into the senior England squad for the first time when I was working with Kevin Keegan," Reed said. "I've got his Euro 2000 shirt framed on my wall saying: 'Best wishes, Steven Gerrard.'"

But according to the recently published Gerrard: My Autobiography, the feeling is far from mutual. "To this day, I have no respect for Reed or [fellow coach Derek] Fazackerley," wrote Gerrard. "I was a young lad who had never been away from home to play football before. They didn't seem to understand that not everyone can board a plane, settle in a strange hotel far from the family they love, and find it easy.

"In fact they made me feel like shit. My homesickness worsened whenever I was forced to be in their company. I felt they could have shown more care and sympathy. They were always pushing me, always telling me to buck up my ideas."

Liverpool face second-from-bottom Charlton off the back of successive 4-0 wins, yet the newly installed Reed was keen to talk up the Liverpool captain.

"Steven is such a dedicated player, he loves playing for Liverpool, he loves playing for England and he'll do whatever the coach asks him to do; he'll always do a job," he said. "I think that for England he would be a fantastic driving force down the middle of the pitch. I think he's able to step off the play and hit great passes, especially distance passes, and is also dangerous coming late into the box and driving in behind defences. Let's just hope he doesn't do it on Saturday.

"There are players that you look at very early on and you're convinced that they have got what it takes," Reed added. "You can never be 100% sure and it's not inevitable for any of them but he would be one from the early days, as would have been Wayne Rooney and players like that, where you would say, 'yeah, he's got something very special'. It's probably to do with drive, passion and enthusiasm. He's got talent but he's also got that extra mentality that is going to take that talent somewhere. That's proved to be the case with Steven."
