But given is a top class keeper and as sven has said it would take someone exceptional to replace Weale.

Aren't they the same thing !? I would have thought being a, "good shotstopper" would mean that you are good at dealing with shots, "from distance" !! Weale is OK at dealing with shots (no better or worse than most in the Championship), but CRAP at dealing with crosses or commanding his area - in fact, he doesn't seem to ever talk to the rest of the defence. I agree with Simmo though, in his main argument - Given would be infinitely better.

The defence needs some backup, but I don't think we're as bad as we looked last night there. Man City have some of the worlds best players who were making some exceptional runs and some inch perfect through balls. We're not going to get that in the championship. If we go up we will need to massively strengthen the defence, but for the championship it's not all that bad at all.

dan77 Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 Just had a transfer talk on Sky Sports News, it was a quote from Given saying 'I don't want to go a whole season without playing at all, and would even consider going to a championship club on a 24hr call back deal. This would benefit myself and Man City' Could be back on, if Sven gets Given it would be awesome, no denying Weale is good but Given is possible still in the top 10 keepers in the Premiership!!

Callabinho Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 The Odds have evened out, Talk of Shay leaving, He WAS penciled in to start against us but was withdrawn an hour before K.O, Ricardo has been taken on trail encase the deal falls through...I think/hope that something has been agreed for a while now! hopefully come Monday we would have landed shay!

bald reynard Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 I wonder whether Sven's hesitation to sign Ricardo (it would seem that he's waiting to the last minute of the window, to decide), is down to the fact that he's trying to line up Given as first choice. Perhaps if he can't persuade Shay, he might sign Ricardo ?
