Di Matteo sacked

Nonsensical decision. They're on a bad run but easily have the team to stay up.

He's done a great job for them, what are they playing at?

This.

Stupidest sacking of the season so far. There's got to be more to it than results hence the gardening leave.

It's amazing how quickly a managers stock can change so drastically. A few months ago everyone was wanking over West Brom after their superb start to the season and rightly so.

Gardening leave always means there's more to it than just poor results/league position.

Did not see that one coming. They must have somebody already lined up to takeover?

Stupid decision, they are not expected to do well in reality, survival is a good season.

Gardening leave perhaps he just has a messy garden!

Ridiculas, and quite disgraceful. I think he has done fairly well considering it's his first time managing in the Premiership. West Brom have beaten Arsenal and Everton away.

Its not like they are rock bottom though :S

First thought was Sven. I don't *think* he'd go, you never know though.

Woy Hodgson is a fans favorite though. Please.

He ain't going anywhere.

I can't believe they've sacked him. It's crazy. West Brom must be surely be looking at survival as an objective this season.

As for Megson he's a legend and a fans favourite there. ;) Come on West Brom you know it makes sense.

He was probably fuming at lack of funds during January and offered an ultimatum or something.

Saw someone at the club saying stuff like "the new man will have to be willing to work with our director of football" etc, etc so it seems like he wasn't that popular. According to this Premier League tips article, Steve McClaren could be on his way in. That would put a huge amount of pressure on a man who still hasn't fully rebuilt his reputation in this country. Could backfire massively.

Tony Kaye, ManU fan, commenting for the Observer on his team's 2-2 draw with West Brom back in October 2010:

"... West Brom deserved the draw and I wouldn't be surprised if they were challenging for a Europa place. Di Matteo has West Brom sorted and playing good football."

How things change within three months...
