Nicky Maynard

Hi all another Bristol City fan here.

Firstly, apologies for the silly racial comments from a minority of our fans, it's out of order and unacceptable but unfortunately every club has a few of these small minded individuals.

Now onto Maynard. I'm pretty sure not many if any have labelled us a bigger club than you on our forum, it's just been made to look that way as we've always assumed Nicky would go to a Premier league club if he did leave. Due to this factor, when news first broke out about the interest from Leicester many City fans thought there was no chance in him going to you or any other Championship club.

When it comes down to who Nicky would choose between us both I'm still undecided. I know you lot are one of the favourites next season and are pratically rich nowawdays, as well as having one of the best managers (achievements wise) in Europe. However... and I know I will get abuse for saying this, personally I still see Leicester as a only slightly higher sideways step. I believe we are only 3-4 signings off a play off spot and have the potential to be up there next season. We all know the Championship is one of the best leagues in the world for the 'anything can happen' factor and anyone can surprise the media by challenging for promotion or battling to stay up. Last season we were 2nd favourites amongst most bookies having just appointed Steve Coppell one of the highest rated managers in the country and buying David James who had just returned from the World Cup.

When it comes to the price we want for Nicky, I can see why some of you guys think we're being arrogant. It's not intended to come accross that way at all and simply put, it represents the fact that Nicky is almost an icon upon City fans. We spent £2.25 on him, so clearly we'd want to atleast make a decent profit even if he only has one year remaining on his contract especially with Crewe getting a significant amount of the money. Many of our fans including myself are still hoping that Nicky will sign an extension to his contract even if it looks unlikely to happen to an outsider, which is part of the reason such high fees are going around. I'd accept £4M but no lower and just take the gamble if the offer is any lower. If he does go we have two very good Championship strikers in Stead and Pitman to replace him.

Anyway I ended up writing to much there it seems haha. Hopefully you guys can understand that we don't intend to sound arrogant at all. I don't know who Nicky will be going to, but whoever gets him is very lucky and in my opinion he is the best striker in the NPC.

Watch the goals he scores in this video, it shows his quality, and why he is so important to us. Good luck to Leicester next season regardless of what happens.

Someone reckons it's just been on the radio that Bristol have accepted 4m + Waghorn for him.

Anyone else heard anything?

Bloody hell, that's a bit steep ain't it

IF this is true, then it would go down as one of the worst deals EVER in LCFC history.

The price tags for football players floating around these days are CRAZY, it all starts with the top clubs spending silly money on average players and it trickles down to the lower leagues, inflating prices as well.

It's ridiculous! In every regular market you're told to save money in troubled financial times, not dish it out like this.

I blame football agents - greedy fvckers.

I've just seen this on Bentley's. Why would we offer £4M plus a player that was £2.5M last year? Granted, Waghorn's not worth that amount but even assuming his value has dropped to £1M, £5M is still a lot for Maynard....

There's been far worse deals. Plus, we've got money and we'll have to pay over the top for players just like Man City do but on a different scale. Maynard is a sought after commodity and although I don't think he's worth £4 million, let alone £4 million and Waghorn it wouldn't surprise me if that's what we'll have to pay.

Thankfully for us we bought Waghorn off the money we got for DJ Campbell, the add-on's for Waggy are if we get promoted and i'm not sure you still have to pay them if you sell before promotion is achieved? Add in the money we got for Fryatt and the dough the Thai's have and we're not breaking the bank for Maynard. But we'll need another 2 strikers to join as well.

Who spread the rumour that Maynard was Premier League-destined? Was it the club that claimed this or Maynard's agent or Maynard himself?

Judging by his previous track record and his recent injury, he's still a gamble.

So you spent £2.25m on Maynard when he joined you. But you do realize that players facing their last year of their contract simply can't be worth almost twice as much as originally invested?

Maynard has NOT become almost twice as good in three years of service for Bristol City.

£4m? Forget it. That's ludicrous. In the end, he'll have to sit it out with Bristol, only to leave on a free at the end of next season.

Seems to me your club is simply in dire need of cash and part-accomplice in inflated transfer fees like in Maynard's case.

Is that seriously what we've offered? Sven must want him pretty bad! But if we're that desperate, why not just pay the cash? We'd probably get more for Waghorn if we sold him to another club rather than include him in a deal.

Regardless of whether we put £2.5m, £3m, £4m or even £4m plus one of our own strikers on the table for Maynard...

... IF he ever signs for Leicester, I expect nothing more than an immediate ROI.

That's CRAZY money.

Great post man

I think LCFC fans do see BCFC as a smaller club, because of the comparisons that our attendances, ground and recent history (last 30 years) is better than BCFC.

I remember BCFC as a Division 2/3 team whereas LCFC have only ever played 1 season in the 3rd teir & we have also played alot of Division 1 & Premiership seasons.

Next we do all start off the same this time of year, but as you suggest we have more player pulling power as we have SGE & Rich owners & the target is Automatic promotion & it seems with the evidence we have so far in last seasons loans & This season Transfer targets that the owners are will ing to put serious financial backing to get the squad together to make a serious challenge to the top 2 positions come May 12.

On Maynard, BCFC will owe Crewe 20% of the transfer fee I believe, therefore BCFC will want to get as many millions as they can naturally. £4M is alot, I am sure NM is class & can get 20+ goals, but if the above posts are accurate & we are willing to place Waghorn as part of a deal then BCFC have got a great deal! Waghorn has lots of potential & can score in the championship.

My issue with BCFC & their fans is that BCFC has let NM run down his contract to 12 months, this lowers his value! I am sure that this guy could be worth £8-10M when he proves himself again after his injury, but with only 1 season left under contract, he can walk come July 12. If we offered £3.5M IMO thats a fair offer.

Best of luck to u guys too hope you finish 2nd to us

****ing Crazy. £4m and Waghorn?

Suppose Waggy was Mandaric's leaving pressie.

Waghorn has earned the right to first-team football, he left the club he loves to get it after a great season at Leicester. If we can't offer it to him, as disappointed as I'll be, we should let him go. And if we can use that to get ourselves ahead of the competition (Forest/West Ham/Southampton) for Maynard then all the better. :)

In all honesty, the lads a young English striker, who appears to be very talented and has a lot of clubs looking at him. If we wan't him we'll have to pay an inflated price.

Seems to me your club is simply in dire need of cash and part-accomplice in inflated transfer fees like in Maynard's case.

Sky Sports claimed numerous Premier league clubs were after him before his injury in the summer last season. Of course there's been lots of silly rumours in the papers as well, one claiming Liverpool were interested haha.

Maynard has improved incredibly since he joined us. In his first season he definitely struggled coping with the pace in the division but since then he has been fantastic. He even returned from a long term injury and began scoring for fun last season. I understand why £4M sounds ludicrous but any lower and for me personally it wouldn't be worth it and we may as well take a gamble. I know some City fans would disagree with me in that aspect, it's just my personal opinion.

We are definitely not in need of cash however. Wanting so much for Nicky shows this as if we needed cash we would be risking clubs dropping interest in him. We did announce £12M losses last year and the club have said we will be cutting back on the amount we spend on transfer fees but would still be spending a respectable amount. It's not as if we need more money, we just have to cut back on our losses. I know you'll say well that's the reason why we're selling Maynard, but at no point has the club officially said he is for sale yet.
