Nalis Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Used to dislike Stoke, now I've stopped caring. They're basically this year's Watford. Roll on Saturday evening when we can finally talk about someone else...
StokeFan Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Remember beating them in the 96 playoff semi final and they invaded the pitch after the match only got to the half way line but there support had a bad reputation back then dont know if much has changed Well considering we're 17th in the table for the Premiership banning orders (below yourselves), I would say a lot has changed. It's not just other fans who suffered from those idiots. Growing up, it was difficult to get to many away games through a fear of it kicking off. I would have no problem taking a child to an away game nowadays. That playoff was obviously a tough time for us because it also was the beginning of our meltdown. We played damned well throughout but you couldn't get the goal. You had a young and surprisingly talented lad called Emile Heskey if I remember rightly? Either way, we got screwed by a certain willy puller called Moxey for a new stadium that we didn't need and ended up having to sell our best players over the next few seasons to pay for it, ergo, we disappeared off the face of the earth for a while. 1
Jordan Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 I'm sorry but you can't just list off a series of unconnected facts and call it punditry. I've got no issue with the "prediction" - that's his opinion, which he's paid to give. It's the "analysis" which he gives which is pathetic. Believe me, I would not call it punditry myself. In 2014, punditry has been replaced with "punditainment." 1
Vlad the Fox Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 I only went to the home game missed the away leg but if i remember rightly they players got escorted off the pitch and they kept the Leicester supporters in the ground for a while till everything cooled off It hadn't cooled much though. I can remember coming out the ground and seeing groups of angry men hanging around. My dad had to tell me to stop grinning. It was all kicking off around me and it was as if I was walking through it it in a Gary Parker induced protective haze. They were really mad though. . As for this season, every team in the league is going to look at the promoted clubs and think 'we should beat these', and all the promoted teams will be looking at teams like stoke, west ham, palace ect. as teams they should beat if we want to stay in the league.

You played well in the first leg and we were lucky to get a draw TBH you had a good away support and created a great atmosphere, i always remember this guy dressed up like a Chinese food seller or something with a mustache and a funny robe and hat, was he a regular at your games? makes me laugh to think of it now
LanguedocFox Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Anyway, I think we can agree that Stoke has its share of kn0bhead fans, and so does City. Back to the subject of the thread, This isn't a bad preview of the match: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/fourfourtwo-preview-stoke-vs-leicester. I just hope the conclusion is wrong.
ScouseFox Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 did we really have 9 players on international duty? thought we only had 4 or 5 2
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 I have hated them since the play off game, about 13 years old and getting spat at and attacked by their "fans" outside the ground. Now I know they aren't all the same, doesn't mean those people didn't leave a lasting impression. I can just about remember that, they were awful when we played them in the play offs.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Sounds very similar to the aftermath of the playoff semi final at Fratton Park after we beat them too. Think some fans still can't stand them because of that night.
Finnaldo Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 did we really have 9 players on international duty? thought we only had 4 or 5 Does that include Youth Team players?
ToeKneeHandCock Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 did we really have 9 players on international duty? thought we only had 4 or 5 Kasper, Wes, Schlupp, Mahrez, Wood, King, Lawrence, Moore, not sure who the ninth is.
ScouseFox Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 oh yeah, didn't think of wood or morgan and didn't know moore counted. and sort of forgot we'd signed lawrence
Finnaldo Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Kasper, Wes, Schlupp, Mahrez, Wood, King, Lawrence, Moore, not sure who the ninth is. Stankevikus? Something like that. Plays for Lithuania?
Andy King Power Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Just in case we all didn't acknowledge Leo's workrate, take a look at this picture comparing Diouf and Ulloa: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/mame-diouf-vs-leonardo-ulloa-headtohead-analysis-ahead-of-the-clash-between-stoke-city-and-leicester-city-9728938.html Understandably we've been under fire more (According to that 4-4-2 article, we've conceded 10 more attempts more than anyone, then again, not many of them were thereat) But just looking that just shows why Nige got him in.
ToeKneeHandCock Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Stankevikus? Something like that. Plays for Lithuania? Could be, forgot about him. Although I think the OS said 9 first team players.
LanguedocFox Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Stankevikus? Something like that. Plays for Lithuania? Simonas Stankevicius. He sounds good - top scorer for the under 18s last season and in the Development Squad this year. Full Lithuania international though.
davieG Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 Paul Merson’s prediction: How are you supposed to predict football sometimes? Stoke fell over the line to draw with Hull, who had 10 men for most of the game – but then went to Manchester City, who have one of the best home records in the world of football and won. How can you call that? I hate going against Stoke at home, but I must say I have been very impressed with Leicester – however, they haven’t got a lot of points yet and that’s a concern. I will go for a home win, but only a narrow one because Leicester aren’t a bad side.
Stinkenzo Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 (edited) They have 22.2% of the points available against three very difficult sides, and despite being very impressive, thats a cause for concern. Edited 12 September 2014 by Walkers
Xen Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 They have 22.2% of the points available against three very difficult sides, and despite being very impressive, thats a cause for concern. Last year's PL for comparison: So basically, we're not doing too badly at all. Half as many points as Stoke from the same three fixtures, though they've been a PL side for several years now, and last year they were really solid at home so with 2/3 of the fixtures being on home soil, its no surprise they did well. 1

I have not seen a stoke fan I couldn't monkey mount...and get em squeaking.. 1
dayday Posted 12 September 2014 Posted 12 September 2014 I have hated them since the play off game, about 13 years old and getting spat at and attacked by their "fans" outside the ground. Now I know they aren't all the same, doesn't mean those people didn't leave a lasting impression. My old mate Lee Carter(rip) was a larger than life character who could look after himself ,he was getting quite a bit of mouth from some of the Stoke fans in the ground(we was in pen1),after the game funnily enough we met the same mouthy Stoke fans outside the swan and rushes, put it this way they weren't so mouthy afterwards.

Good bit of analysis there. The points tally shouldn't really be a concern to anyone at this stage. If we are 10 games in and still haven't picked up a win, that's when you start describing it as a worry or maybe something stronger!
