Ever since Klit dropped him he looks scared to properly engage.

Still came back in that fight though. The Ruiz one was damaging. To the extent he's never fought "away" again. Hearn has made sure of that. (Saudi is a neutral venue)

Early years AJ was an exciting fighter and a knockout artist.

This version is robotic, formulated and boring.

Don't think I've seen a single AJ fight post Ruiz where he really looked his old self.

Fvck the trainers what this guy really needs is a sports psychologist. Just doesn't look right.

How he can even think he’s earned the right to be in a ring with Fury is  beyond me….

In fairness, the same could be said for many of Fury’s and Wilders opponents. AJ and Whyte has at least fought the higher ranking opponents. I mean, what did Chisora do to deserve fights against most of them?

Its frustrating, however the boxing authorities should step in and make the fights, if they’re unable to agree. If they won’t agree, strip them of titles or suspend them.

Ducking fights is frustrating.

It’s happened for years though, so I doubt it will change. GGG was largely avoided for years when he was at his peak.

I mean, look at the Welterweight division. You’ve got Spence, Ennis, Crawford, Ortiz, Stanionis, Benn, Crowley, Santillian, Giyasov, Shinima, Essuman, Marku, Ramos, Rosa, Cissokho and Curierl. They’re all undefeated. Who ware they fighting to maintain those records?

Yep, it's a farce. And as long as there are four different boxing authorities all with their own version of titles, it will continue to be so. What other sport does that?

It’s the TV companies as well. Trying to get fighters to agree to fight each other when once is signed with DAZN and the other is on ESPN etc, appears to be largely a non starter at the top level.

Yep, agreed.

And in a similar case to a lot of other things involving TV rights, the consumer is being taken for a ride.

It's no wonder the Gypsy King is sat at home fully deserving to pick and choose who he fights.....its frightening how good he is compared to whats available.

Joshua isn't now just being found out, anybody with any boxing nouse knew what he was after the judges gifted him Olympic gold in 2012

He still has a big following and offers Fury a massive payday, which seems to be what Fury wants most of all at this stage of his career.

He should be fighting Usyk end of story.. Fury’s antics let him down and at least other fighters will fight each other

A lots made of AJ's psyche amd the impact previous losses have had on him. I think it's simply that he's a limited fighter and not on the level of the likes of Usyk or Fury. Despite his obvious flaws and limitations he's carved out a good career and made himself a fortune. He's not the generational talent people make him out to be

Spot on imo mate.

I’d said for ages that you’d only be able to really see if AJ was much good when you put him in with somebody half decent. A lot of his early fights, as per building him up, were against fighters who were of a poor standard. And some were just farcical. The fight against Charles Martin for instance.

The only surprise I had was AJ’s loss to Ruiz. I think most were surprised at that one, including Ruiz!
AJ is your decent, hyped up, heavyweight fighter. A notch above the Dillian Whytes and the Del Boy’s of this world, but a notch below the really skilful heavyweights.
Usyk had beaten him twice, Fury would just wear him down and I think Wilder would knock him out.

AJ is another person who’s benefitted from this modern-day image over substance phenomenon that pervades the world. He’s been built up to be sensational, when he actually isn’t. This has been driven by Hearne and the media.

Yep, he's a bison of a unit but not what I'd call a natural boxer or arguably one that learnt the art early enough in his formative years to become a great. That said he's above average and also appears to me to be a confidence fighter - he did fight some dross on his way up and looked good doing so which must have given confidence and momentum to beat an aged Klitschko who was genuinely unnerved by what AJ had to offer and who also thought would be the next big thing. But when you compare AJ's ringcraft to likes of Tyson Fury - he's in a different league / class / division / sport.

He's looking for a payday with Fury which at some point may happen as he'll make 30-40 million as its still a fight boxing fans will pay to see - many of whom will be rooting for Fury to deliver a lesson. It's actually quite sad but the writing is on the wall for AJ and I hope when he has his final payday, he finds another route in life that makes him happy as he looks a bit lost to me after listening to some of his uncomfortable post fight microphone rhetoric.

You'd think with a capable asset manager he'll be able to do anything he chooses to do for the rest of his life, including getting someone to help him with his head and help him decide, if needs be.

When its all you know and its your whole identity wrapped up in failed dreams and goals, the danger is that one surrounds themselves with the what they want to hear... and and the danger is they go on and on. Hopefully you are right.

And there are a fair few examples of that. Here's hoping I am right, but only time will tell.

Maybe a strange comparison but he reminds me quite a lot of Harry Maguire. They both had somewhat of a meteoric rise which led themselves and others to massively overrate them and now they've both been found out and look completely lost

The funny thing is that Maguire appears at least reasonably competent when he turns out for England IMO (folks are welcome to point out any hideous mistakes/limitations he's made while wearing an England shirt but I can't think of any at the moment) but then gets turned around frequently for Man U. I wonder why?

In regards to Maguire, I'd imagine Southgate's unwavering support of him would be a massive factor in his England performances.

AJ on the other hand, who knows.
