Finnegan Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Stolen from another forum, figured it was worth a post here. 45 Most Powerful Images of the Year. Bit American-centric in places with a few 9/11 'anniversary' photos and I thought number 45 was a bit cheesy but there's still some incredible photos in there. The devastation of the Joplin tornado and the Japanese tsunami are just absolutely staggering. 8 and 44 stood out the most for me, I hope the woman in 44 is alive and well today - if so that's an awesome story in an image. Also, number 25 - tidy arse.
General Smuts Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 I'm only opening this link for the last line.
Charl91 Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 18 looks amazing. Felt a bit sorry for 44 though Agreed about 25!
MikeyT Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Don't see why 28 is there And as much as i can appreciate being in the right place at the right time and holding out for that one amazing photo, bugger being the photographer for number 10!
StanSP Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 THought the same about 25 and 44 . Don't remember the story about 44 so that struck me with shock and surprise the most. Agree with MikeyT, too. For me, 28 (Winehouse death) doesn't have the same effect at all for myself compared to some others in the selection. Still, I can understand why it was picked.
Fox92 Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 24 is wrong and sick. 1 and 20 in particular, are powerful.
StanSP Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 24 is wrong and sick. 1 and 20 in particular, are powerful. What's wrong and sick about it?
Libertine Dream Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Some of those are amazing and the message they hold is in some cases very moving. Along the lines of number 20, one of the most powerful news stories of the year in my opinion was this one.Dog Dies Also some images that aren't necessarily powerful but I think hold a message for the UK are on these front pages: Express front Page Telegraph Front Page As for 25, 100% agree, not sure why the coppers are running away from her
purpleronnie Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 The picture of the dust storm is incredible.
ousefox Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Agreed with no.25 thought the last picture was the best myself
Trav Le Bleu Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 44 is not so much a great picture as an amazing incident. As photos go, the Chilean volcano one is jawdropping.
Webbo Posted 5 December 2011 Posted 5 December 2011 Also, number 25 - tidy arse. He said it was his girlfriend, but maybe, while she was knocked out?
Finnegan Posted 5 December 2011 Author Posted 5 December 2011 He said it was his girlfriend, but maybe, while she was knocked out? I think the volcano and the dust storm are, visually, the most amazing photographs of the lot. Brilliant photography and amazingly great captures. The old woman who's been peppersprayed was one of the most moving and disturbing of the lot. I don't agree with 20, though. It's not shocking or impacting at all, it's just a coffin. We've seen thousands of them. Maybe it's a sad statement that I'm completely desensitized to that but there you go.
Saxondale Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 The copper in 11 looks like a right mean bastard. Is that pepper spray in 16 or just orange spraypaint?!
Rincewind Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I wish my better photos were to the standard as the ones you regard as shite.
Babylon Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 I don't agree with 20, though. It's not shocking or impacting at all, it's just a coffin. We've seen thousands of them. Maybe it's a sad statement that I'm completely desensitized to that but there you go. If the dog wasn't there it wouldn't be in the list, so it's more about that bond than anything.
ajthefox Posted 6 December 2011 Posted 6 December 2011 put this in the photography thread a few days ago and no-one batted an eyelid!
