Captain... Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 There will be some rain tomorrow by the looks of things, if we can build a decent lead then the conditions should favour the bowlers. Certainly favourites to win at the mo, but anything can happen.
Captain... Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 I'm beginning to hope the forecast is right. It's not an easy batting pitch a lead of 200 could well be enough, especially considering that they will almost certainly be without Watling.
purpleronnie Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 It's not an easy batting pitch a lead of 200 could well be enough, especially considering that they will almost certainly be without Watling. That's true, I hope the tail wags a bit and we get a similiar total to the 1st innings.
Corky Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Still probably in control, need another 50 at least though.
Voll Blau Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 To be fair New Zealand are probably the one side in world cricket likely to use English conditions to their advantage in terms of bowling, given their climate is relatively similar to ours. Williamson getting one to rag square to get Trott probably helped too though. Still fancy us to win though.
I am Rod Hull Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Three Four early wickets for Broad puts England on top Whoever wins its been one hell of a test match.
purpleronnie Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 This is great, let's bowl the feckers out for less than 100.
ScouseFox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Jimmy in on the act too. Two beautiful balls in a row going in out straight, batsman didn't have a clue. Superb.
ScouseFox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Broad 5 wickets in less than 6 overs, 5-22. 29/6. Great stuff.
theessexfox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 6 down. 5 for Broad. Scintillating stuff from the best attack in international cricket.
I am Rod Hull Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 That looks like a Leicestershire batting scorecard
Swarles Barkley Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 6 down. 5 for Broad. Scintillating stuff from the best attack in international cricket. Second best in my opinion. South africa are better
leicsmac Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Hugely destructive bowling display. The SA bowlers are more consistent, but our our day the England bowling attack is as good.
I am Rod Hull Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Broad has been on fire despite being shite the other day. He really winds me up, he bowls too short far too much and never looks like getting a wicket but when he pitches it up he looks dangerous, every fooker can see this it seems except Broad and the bowling coaches....

Broad is quite a frustrating bowler, he can be very expensive and pose no threat, but then he can bowl match winning spells and destroy the top order of any nation, remember his hattrick against the aussies. Do risk sacrificing that for a more consistent line and length bowler? I don't know, I would love to see him really push on and be that awesom bowler we only see in spells, him and Jimmy firing them in is just unplayable, with Swann twirling away then one of Finn, Bresnan, Tremlett, Onions we have an awesome attack, would still love us to go with big Tim and a five man attack, but then against new Zealand and many other sides it would just be a waste.
Corky Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Broad is so hit-and-miss, he'll take 6 wickets in one innings then one in the next three, rather than 3/4 each time. Not banging the ball in halfway down the pitch every time might improve his consistency.

Hang on hang on... After the way our batting lineup has performed since the beginning of 2012 you want to remove a batsman for another bowler? A move that would also involve moving Matt Prior from the number 7 position where he has excelled over the same time period (let's ignore this weekend). All while our bowling attack has been performing, by and large, admirably? MADNESS

MADNESS Completely agree with this; especially given the fact that 3 of the current top 6 batsman in Compton, Root and Bairstow are all relatively inexperienced at International level. I don't see why we'd sway from the 6 batsman/4 bowlers formation that has seen us compile so much success in recent years.
