People really liked yesterday's episode? Thought it was the worst of the season so far personally, so dull

Me too, not been impressed with the series so far, but then they are covering a period when the books tailed off too. Best bits of the series so far has been the tension between Cersei and Margeary and John Snow and Stannis at the wall.

Haven't read the books but after last nights episode can see it building up to something big at winterfell?

Excited to see how the Tyrion story pans out!

Apparently Arya has the biggest storyline of the this season, so far I'm completely lost with her scenes.

So is she.

Tyrion's boat journey's far less interesting in the TV show, what happened to the priest lady with the fetish for skinny dipping?  (Yes I remember the important bits.)

This is getting silly now... too much straying from the books in weird ways. :(

lol You've said this since season 2. BOOKS DON'T ALWAYS TRANSLATE WELL ON SCREEN.

Most of the changes they've made have objectively been very good. Sansa going to Winterfell is much more interesting, Brienne actually does something instead of just wandering around, Dany is actually doing things instead of just sitting around having meetings about fighting pits. I could go on and on. A direct copy of the book would be dull as ****, it wouldn't even be a tv show.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Sand Snakes, they looked wooden and cliché. Loras' character has been completely assassinated, he's just defined by his gayness now, nothing more. I'm also disappointed they seem to have cut the Iron born storyline, but considering how pushed for screentime they are already shoving stories for Yara, Euron, Victarion and Damphair in would have been a mess (I still wanted to see Vic being a nutter).

What do you think of the cutting of the Griff and Young Griff storylines, Haydos?

If they become relevant them they can be introduced later on, that we haven't met them yet doesn't mean they won't appear later but just in a different way, they can be introduced with a bang rather than the slower introduction they got in the book.

Honestly don't mind. They were interesting but it kind of came out of left field in the books. I'm not sure how many viewers would have understood the whole Blackfyre thing either. I genuinely found Euron and Victarion much more interesting and fun between the pair of them. If the Young Griff storyline isn't going very far in the books (if it's just another plot device to bring other pieces into play and change peoples motives and whatnot) then it might well be worth it being cut in favour of more closely following other main characters.

The Missandei/Grey Worm bit seems like pandering as well, not particularly a fan of that and to be honest I preferred Missandei's character in the books, she was young and mysterious and wise beyond her age and she had an interesting relationship with Dany.

I don't mind criticism of the show, it's not always perfect but the whining about it not being identical to the books really grates. Jaime, Jorah and Brienne wandering all over the place doesn't make for good viewing I'm afraid and if you can't see that then it's difficult to even discuss the show. Now we get to see Jaime and Bronn (another great show character) get up to antics and actually contribute to the plot, we get Jorah merged with Griff (therefore saving a load of screen time) and some interaction with Tyrion which could set the Dany plot up nicely and finally Brienne and Pod and Sansa and Winterfell all fall into place and it seems set up for something to happen there.

That's just a few examples but overall I'm enjoying it, I've actually been genuinely intrigued the last couple of episodes, not just wondering how they're going to carry out a certain scene or deliver a specific line.

The books are obviously concluding with an R+L=J endgame, and with such a massive plot point the show will follow. I would have thought Griff's story would provide much needed backstory to Rhaegar (especially with Barristan being killed off) to introduce viewers to that storyline. You can't just spring R+L=J on an oblivious audience.

I know we have had glimpses to pre-Roberts Rebellion Westeros on the show but I just think the shows producers are sacrificing arguably the most intriguing plot in the story for mediocre ones.

a) I don't see how that's the endgame. It's a big reveal but it's ultimately not going to mean much IMO. It might play a part in an event involving Dany and Jon but Jon has already turned down Stannis' offer to legitimize him. In addition we don't really know what's happened after all the shit (you know what I mean) that went down at the end of ADWD.

b) This season the show has really been dropping a lot more hints about Jon's parentage (Example from the latest episode would be Maester Aemon saying about Dany, "A Targaryen, lost in the world" as the camera pans to Jon entering the room) and I don't think it would come out of the blue. Regardless, winter is coming and that's what this is all ultimately about.

I assume you've read all the books, I just saw someone post about this great bit of foreshadowing on reddit:

“Likely they were too shy to come out,” Ned jested. He could feel the chill coming up the stairs, a cold breath from deep within the earth. “Kings are a rare sight in the north.” Robert snorted. “More likely they were hiding under the snow. Snow, Ned!”

(AGOT, Eddard I)

Also this one from when Joffrey is at Winterfell training with Robb:

“Why aren’t you down in the yard?” Arya asked him.

He gave her a half smile. “Bastards are not allowed to damage young princes,” he said.

What happened to Gendry? Still rowing his boat somewhere.

He should be around Slaver's Bay by now :D

Getting interesting now the last couple of episodes (Not read beyond the first book yet)... Once again, I think Alfie Allen's performance is very good! Very interesting character and he pulls it off well.

I echo Haydos in that the Sandsnakes are frankly terrible. Really poor scripting for them and/or poor casting. Disappointing really, as Oberyn was excellent and the whole Dornish way of life sounded much cooler than what they have depicted so far...

Both I think. The script is awful and they're cliche characters reading cliche monologues with no emotion. On top of that the fight scene was pathetically choreographed and acted compared so some of the other fight scenes. Game of Thrones fights have never been of the standard of those on Vikings for example but this was the worst of the lot.

Much preferred the last episode, felt like a lot less skipping backwards and forwards to different characters and focusing on just a few at a time and showing more of it.  Still not a patch on previous seasons though sadly.
