I can see why you would read them, but I struggle keeping up with the all the characters and stories on the TV show as it is.

It's easier to keep track in the books as you get a lot more back story and detail, the TV show tends to skip over the back story and then you are suddenly expected to know who this blonde angry muppet is and why he is acting like such a cvnt.

tried again to watch the first season but sadly it falls so far short of the books I've been unable.

The first season I thought was brilliant in regard to staying close to the book, S2 seemed to be where it lost it's way. I suppose the snorefest that was the majority of Dany's 'saga' would never have worked too well on the TV tho.

It's 7.5 hours of TV, not 750 pages of book.

That's not a good enough reason.

I've never watched this show, but I hear Roxy McKee that used to be in Hollyoaks a while back got her baps out in it. This is encouraging.

In the first few episodes of season 1 (that's all I watched) there are a myriad of women with their tits out - American TV series are heavilty into soft porn at the moment.

They've replace Sir Dontos with Little-Finger? And What was Rob doing at Harrenhall?? Too much divergence!

How's that a divergence? I haven't seen any of S3 yet so I don't know exactly how they portray it, but in the book (A Storm of Swords part 2 to be precise)... *BIG SPOILER COMING UP*

... Little-Finger gets Dontos to sneak Sansa out of King's Landing in the aftermath of Joffrey's death, then kills him

I thought the same thing, so that bit didn't bother me, although why include Dontos at all?

Think they probably just changed their mind. They also like to spell things out a bit more for the show watchers which is fair enough as plenty seem a bit confused at times already.

How disappointing is the fight between Jamie and beianne? They've made it so slow and boring.

It's annoying that they didn't give an extra minute to that scene. Their plotline is one of my favourites in the series and that was a major event in it.

Having just started catching up with series 2 boxset and noticing people complaining about divergence, already by episode 3 season 2 we have, Asha's name changed (I'm guessing having an Arya and an Asha confuses people who watch TV, but not people who read books?), Rakharo (surely the principle of Dany's bloodriders?) killed and the scene where Theon is given to the Drowned God totally changed (it's okay to show incest, rape and dismemberment, but not drowning?) which I thought would be a very dramatic scene that really keys you into the Ironlander psyche.

Disappointing.

I think it was more because of Osha as well.

I agree though, the show is very disappointing compared to the books, but unless they made each season 20 episodes it always was going to be.

You forget the worst, changing Jeyne Westerling (the girl Robb marries) to the seemingly completely random character Tulisa for no reason at all. oh, and turning Stannis into a completely unlikable character when he is a total badass in the book.

You have always presumed on my forbearance,†Stannis warned Davos when they were alone. “I can shorten your tongue as easy as I did your fingers, smuggler.â€

“I am your man, Your Grace. So it is your tongue, to do with as you please.â€

“It is,†he said, calmer. “And I would have it speak the truth. Though the truth is a bitter draught at times. Aerys, if you only knew… that was a hard choosing. My blood or my liege. My brother or my king.†He grimaced. “Have you ever seen the Iron Throne? The barbs along the back, the ribbons of twisted steel, the jagged ends of swords and knives all tangled up and melted? It is not a comfortable seat, ser. Aerys cut himself so often men took to calling him King Scab, and Maegor the Cruel was murdered in that chair. By that chair, to hear some tell it. It is not a seat where a man can rest at ease. Ofttimes I wonder why my brothers wanted it so desperately.â€

“Why would you want it, then?†Davos asked him.

“It is not a question of wanting. The throne is mine, as Robert’s heir. That is law. After me, it must pass to my daughter, unless Selyse should finally give me a son.†He ran three fingers lightly down the table, over the layers of smooth hard varnish, dark with age. “I am king. Wants do not enter into it. I have a duty to my daughter. To the realm. Even to Robert. He loved me but little, I know, yet he was my brother. The Lannister woman gave him horns and made a motley fool of him. She may have murdered him as well, as she murdered Jon Arryn and Ned Stark. For such crimes there must be justice. Starting with Cersei and her abominations. But only starting. I mean to scour that court clean. As Robert should have done, after the Trident.

To be fair we don't know Jeyne Westerling in the books. Having a completely unknown entity that had spent no time with Robb on screen suddenly come and marry him would be a bit awkward.

We don't get POV's for Robb in the book but we do on TV, if we didn't then it would have made more sense.

This is the new mainstream american TV fad. Soft porn is in.

I love your continual defense. it's admirable but admit it, the books are too complicated to be made into a TV series - at least by the company that they have been. Having said that people who haven't read the books should be more than happy with series as it seems to be better than many out there.

I think they're verging on being too complex. I've also said before it's not as perfect for TV as people think as it's main plotlines are political and character based, not all action, fighting and drama.

I still defend it where I think It deserves it though. Most of the changes, while unfortunate, I can understand. But yes, it's nowhere near the level the books are at, but I don't think that's down to how it's written or produced (apart from the unnecessary scenes that contribute nothing to the plot in an already tight schedule).

PS. Trav, I agree about the drowning, that would have made a great scene.
