KFS Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 As I said a while back, losing Mills to another Championship team would be gutting, but on loan? DJ Campbell springs to mind. Although I respect Pearson as a manager and back him while he is in charge, it is becoming far too much of a muchness with regard to issues with egos. It seems that a large majority are agreeing with the statement, "If he doesn't want to play for us then get rid." Okay, but the game is developing, and I feel that not many players have loyalty to their team anymore! With that fact in mind, I cringe when I see comments like, "fvck off, doesn't wna play 4 lester hur durr".
ian_marshall Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 F**king shit if true http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wanderers/wanderersnews/9768149.Wanderers_set_for_Mills_loan_deal/? Wanderers are poised to sign Leicester City defender Matt Mills on a season-long loan deal. The 25-year-old centre-back has been seeking to quit the King Power Stadium after a high-profile bust-up with Nigel Pearson next season. It had been expected that the Whites would have to cough up £3million up front to secure his signature – but sources in the Midlands claim the move could be made permanent for half that amount next summer. Mills will be up against Zat Knight and Tim Ream for a place at the heart of the Wanderers defence, and could also face competition from David Wheater, who is pencilled in for a New Year return. But the 'try before you buy' deal enables him to kick-start his own career, which has struggled since making a £4m move to Leicester from Reading at the start of last season. It also lets Coyle get a good look at him in a campaign he hopes will finish with promotion back to the Premier League. This will be a shocking deal if it happens. I can see him having an amazing season helping Bolton to achieve promotion for them only for them to then reject the option to buy in favour of pursuing higher profile players once promoted, or alternatively signing him for a nominal undisclosed fee. Anything less than a permanent deal of around £2m will be very bad business from both the management team and the board irrespective of how desperate they are to offload Mills.

Raw Dykes Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Getting his massive wages off the bill is the main thing. Sure, it would be nice to get a fee, but that would just be a bonus. We can use his £25k (or thereabouts) a week much better elsewhere. That could pay two or three 1st team players' wages. It's not as if we're choosing to loan him out over selling him - we're choosing to free up a large amount of the wage allocation over wasting it on an average defender with an attitude problem who won't be a contender for the first team. He can only be sold if someone wants to buy. I don't know what some of you expect. How is it shocking? Did you think there'd be a bidding war over this flop? We were always going to make a loss on this one. We paid way over the odds both for the fee and his contract. It's a good thing there are any clubs interested in taking him off our hands. We could potentially be stuck with him draining £25k a week out the club for the rest of his contract. If he does well at Bolton, then his value will rise and we should get a decent fee for him this time next year, anyway. Not a shocking deal at all. If it's a choice between paying a reserves player £25k a week or having someone else pay most or all that amount, then it's a very easy decision to make.
Bettsj2 Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Doesnt matter. He's never going to play for us again so loan or perm move, either way he's out of our hair. The way some people are going on, it's like they've got a personal sell on clause in Mills's contract. Have we as fans not learnt anything from the DJ years? LET IT GO
LCFCstriker Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 I hope it includes a clause which says he can't play against us... As long as he can't have a stormer (unlikely i know from what we've seen) against us I don't really care

Soar Fox Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Do you think we'd put a recall option in? If Pearson was to be sacked a different manager might want to recall him.
Dan Posted 18 June 2012 Posted 18 June 2012 Oh fvcking hell. Well in fairness a £2mil move was a very optimistic report for us.

As long as he can't have a stormer (unlikely i know from what we've seen) against us I don't really care I think it should include a clause which says he MUST play against us. Guaranteed 6 points.
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Wouldn't be too fussed if it was a loan. Pearson could be gone this time next year, if so it will give him a fresh start. shame it hasn't worked out because I rated him and thought we looked our best with him in the heart of the defence.
Filberts Treat Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Majority say he's garbage then moan if he's gonna play against us
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Do you think we'd put a recall option in? If Pearson was to be sacked a different manager might want to recall him. I'm not totally sure, but I think a season long loan is exactly that, with no recall option for the parent club. I suppose it aids planning of the loaning club & we benefited well from this in the past with NP.
Mack Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 I dont like the idea of a loan. They'll see he is a donkey and send him back
davieG Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Wanderers took a giant leap towards solving their centre-half dilemma last night by securing Zat Knight’s future and agreeing a season-long loan deal for Leicester’s Matt Mills. It is understood Knight has finally ended weeks of speculation and agreed a deal to stay at the Reebok next season on reduced terms. And Owen Coyle also looks to have boxed clever in snapping up Foxes defender Mills for the season, with a view to making the move permanent next summer. Norwich City entered the race late to try and poach the 25-year-old from under the Whites’ noses, but the club remain confident the transfer will be wrapped up by the end of the week. Mills was signed for £4million just last season from Reading but was looking for a way out of the King Power Stadium after falling out with manager Nigel Pearson. Celtic failed with a player-exchange deal a fortnight ago and reports in the Scottish press claim they were willing to try again later this month. But while Mills was once viewed as a replacement for Knight, should he leave, he could now find himself playing alongside the 32-year-old at the heart of the Whites defence next season. Wanderers are likely to pay a loan fee up front, with an option to pay £2m next summer when they hope to be preparing for a return to the Premier League.

Happy Fox Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 The loan fee will probably be a 5 figure fee, so that with the £750K should be able to fund one player to come in unless we ourselves go for a loan or two.
TrentFox Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 Am I the only one who thinks that a central defensive partnership of Mills and Knight sounds pretty darned good ? Maybe my caffeine shot hasn't quite kicked in yet at this time of day, but it also sounds more robust than Morgan and SSL.
Happy Fox Posted 19 June 2012 Posted 19 June 2012 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Bolton-snap-Leicester-City-defender-Matt-Mills/story-16410714-detail/story.html?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed Matt Mills could be set to join Bolton on a season-long loan, the Mercury understands. The central defender will link up with Owen Coyle's Trotters with the view to a permanent deal next summer. The clubs have apparently agreed a figure of £2million for Mills, who was only at City for a season. The loan deal has not yet been completed after interest from other un-named clubs over the weekend. However, Bolton are expected to get their man with the deal being finalised soon. The deal was reportedly dependent on Bolton centre-half Zat Knight leaving the club, but he will now stay at City's Championship rivals and be joined by Mills. Mills was also targeted by Scottish champions Celtic, who initially offered a deal involving defender Kelvin Wilson heading to the King Power Stadium, but City rejected that offer. They reportedly told the Hoops they wanted £3million for the 25-year-old, who joined City last summer from Reading in a deal which could have been worth close to £5m, depending on appearances . City will now move to sign a defender after Sol Bamba's departure to Turkish side Trabzonspor was confirmed yesterday. The Ivory Coast international has switched to Turkey in a £750,000 move, 17 months after Sven-Goran Eriksson signed him from Scottish side Hibernian for £250,000. The 27-year-old agreed personal terms with Trabzonspor last week and will sign a three-year contract. Bamba made 55 appearances for City and scored four goals, including on his debut in the FA Cup third-round tie against Manchester City at the King Power Stadium. Lee Peltier looks set to become the third defender to be leaving City this summer as he edges closer to a move to Leeds in a deal believed to be worth around £350,000. Peltier joined City last summer in a £750,000 switch from Huddersfield and, despite making 44 appearances, Pearson is looking to bring in his own players this summer. He has already signed Belgium defender Ritchie De Laet, and Hull's James Chester is understood to be City's preferred target

Or, (if it means he has been "found out" at this level), are Leeds just in the market for a RB that's not very good ??

Perhaps because we overpaid, perhaps because nobody is out there willing to pay more and Pearson doesn't rate him. Seems he doesn't like people with a poor sense of positioning with Mills, Bamba and Peltier going.
