WTF has happened to Newcastle??? From finishing 5th to fighting off potential relegation in one year. Just shows you the difference between overachieving and underachieving.

The thing is though I watched the last season and they deserved to be up there, they've got some great flair players, good goalscorers etc.

Massively underachieving this season.

I don't think the French players they signed in January have made much of an improvement on their squad. And the Ba-Cisse partnership didn't work too well either.

Yeh that was a strange one. If both were in form at the same time they'd have been unbelievable but they never were.

Cabaye was injured for a long time as well wasn't he? Then again they haven't improved since he's been back. Haven't seen much of Ben Arfa either, though I haven't watched as many Prem games as last season.

They had some pretty important players out for long periods, like Ben Arfa and they probably stretched themselves too far with the Europa League. When they have everyone fit and fresh at the same time they would probably be pretty decent. Debuchy and Sissoko are really good players.

This result could finish Newcastle, when your in a relegation battle the last thing you need is a result like this. Not a great time for the toon, teams around them picking up points, get hammered by there local rivals and now they losing six-nil.

Don't rule out them going down.

A mate of mine is a Newcastle fan, so as I'm always talking to him about them I always keep an eye on them. First part of the season when they had Ba and Cisse they struggled mainly because Pardew insisted on playing 433 meaning one of them was pushed wide. It really didn't work as they are both only really effective down the middle. Pardew had to decide to play just one or change formation to play 2 up top. Obviously Ba moved on and the decision was made for him. But it was square pegs in round holes. Throughout the season they also been without Ben Arfa for most of it, plus Cabaye, Toite and Coloccini have missed huge chunks too. Losing Coloccini usually means Williamson or Perch fill in at the back. Williamson is awful and whilst Perch has been effective in midfield this season, at centre back he's a liability. Cabaye is back now from his long lay off but he's a shadow of the player he was before the injury, struggles to find a team mate half the time with most passes. This coupled with a long Europa League run has really seen them struggle. Think they probably expected more from signings like Anita and Bigirirama, who haven't been overly impressive. Anita inparticular looks like he's won a competition at times to play in the team.

The new French signings look good in spells. Goufrann, Debuchy, Haidara, Yanga-Mbiwa and Sissoko once they've had a summer here and providing Newcastle stay up of course, will be top players next season. Could probably do with an out and out striker as back up for Cisse next season though. Goufrann is more of a wide support striker and Ameobi, although he's been a good servant to the club and has been useful over the years, especially against Sunderland, has never really been Premier League class and is in his early 30's now.

All 3 were spot on.

Just put Reading v QPR on.

Hope it's a good game considering whoever loses is relegated, but if it's a draw both are relegated.

I'm pretty sure I just heard a pin drop. Terrible atmosphere

These must be two of the worst, most depressing in every way teams to play Premier League football.

Results, style of play, atmospheres, fans, everything about these two clubs is just thoroughly depressing.

Totally agree, not sure the likes of hull or watford would be any improvement though.

True, at least Watford might try and play some nice stuff and could be a bit of a surprise package with Zola etc. We'd probably be no better either but this is just painful to watch, much like 95% of both QPR and Reading's seasons.
