Paris Saint Germain star Thiago Silva has hit back at Joey Barton for his criticism of Brazil and a number of his team-mates.

Barton has publicly slammed Brazilian starlet Neymar amongst others and Silva was left far from happy.

"I can hear a lot of people criticising the Selecao [brazilian squad]," he told L'Equipe.

"There is even a Marseille player, I can not remember his name, an Englishman, who has said bad things about Neymar, and Brazilian football, but also about Beckham and Ibra [ibrahimovic]. As no one is talking about him, it seems fun to him to criticise great players for people to know he exists.

"it gives me much more desire to win to silence that Englishman. What does he know about Brazilian football? I don't remember having played against him in the national team"

Barton did quickly respond to Silva's comments, via his Twitter account: "Thiago Silva. That the same p**** thats been injured all season. Another over rated Brazilian. Sort your hamstrings out FatBoy..."

Thiago Silva... easily the best centre back I have seen in a long long time. Shut Joey up too.

Got to agree, Silva is superb.

On Barton though, love him for the entertainment value!!!

He's good value but I don't see why he has to rise to absloutley everything, his tweets are cringe worthy as opposed to funny sometimes (his response to Silva being a prime example, as well as some of the stuff he said to Hamann)

Really fancy Bayern to win it this year. Look in ridiculous form! Would love Dortmund to win it too mind.

Yeah it's been done before by them lol Did they get fined for it last time? I can't remember.

Can't see a lot wrong with it tbh, it's not very sportsmanlike but there are far worse things that happen in football.

Why haven't Real got their sponsor on their shirt?

I could be wrong, but I don't know about Turkish betting or whether companies even exist over there, but with Turkey being a prodominantly Muslim country, I assume advertising betting companies and/or betting itself is frowned upon.

But like I said, I could be wrong :P

I remember when we were sponsored by Carlsberg we weren't allowed to wear that advertisement in France.

Yeah, I think France banned advertising alcohol companies around 2007 mate.
