Mark_w Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 My only worry is we wont be able to replace a striker of Beckfords calibre until we reach the Prem (touch wood) Of Beckford's calibre? What you think we can't find a striker capable of 9 goals in the Championship until we reach the Prem? We probably never will then.
Soar Fox Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Yes because it isn't fair to judge players on one game, we've still got Futacs and it wouldn't be Schlupp and Waghorn together for any length of time if that happened realistically it would be one of them with Vardy or Nugent. I think you'd rather have Bernie or Jobber upfront instead of Beckford. Schlupp isn't good enough for a team that have aspirations of challenging for promotion.Waghorn if he can re-produce the form that made him a fans favourite in 09/10 then yes maybe but it's a very big if at this moment in time.

Jaspa Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Of Beckford's calibre? What you think we can't find a striker capable of 9 goals in the Championship until we reach the Prem? We probably never will then. Do you understand calibre ? There are many factors as to why it has gone tits up for Us and Beckford ( And Waggy ). But most of us can see what he is fully capable of and what he has done in the past, we wont be able to replace that until we level up Que sera, sera . . . Chill out Mark
Mark_w Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 I think you'd rather have Bernie or Jobber upfront instead of Beckford. Yes that's why if he's still here I'd start him against Blackpool. But I don't think he should be regularly starting ahead of Nugent and Vardy based on previous performances and as he's our highest earner I don't think it would be sensible to keep him. Doesn't mean I think he's an awful player. I just don't see how he's much more than an average one at this level.
Babylon Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 It's not that he's a superstar it's that he's adequate to fight for a starting place as a goalscorer. Can you say that about Waghorn, Schlupp, and Futacs? Can you even say that about Vardy yet, considering he's missed as many easy chances as he's scored, he's only played 4 games, and is completely unproven in the football league, let alone the Championship? I mean, you can't argue he's got a better track record. Beckford's held his own in the Premiership, I might add. Before last season started it was clear we needed another striker. When Beckford got off to a shocking start people called for another one for competition at least (I somewhat agreed). Then he and Nugent started playing well together, Beckford went on a scoring run and all of a sudden the forward line was far from our biggest problem. However there were a lot of things wrong with the squad and people did complain about our striking options a number of times throughout the season. Kitch you should probably read through everything I have posted. But I will cover it again. It's not that he's a superstar it's that he's adequate to fight for a starting place as a goalscorer. If he's just adequate to fight for a starting place why the comments from some about us being ****ed if he goes etc? Can you say that about Waghorn, Schlupp, and Futacs? I've not said they are, and I've said I would want a replacement for him if he went. I have just pointed out that with or without Beckford our striking options are better than they were last year by some margin IMO. Can you even say that about Vardy yet, considering he's missed as many easy chances as he's scored, he's only played 4 games, and is completely unproven in the football league, let alone the Championship? I mean, you can't argue he's got a better track record. Beckford's held his own in the Premiership, I might add. I have also stated that Vardy would need to carry on his his current strike rate to be considered a replacement. And as I pointed out he could easily be sat here already only 7 behind Beckfords total if not for a poor decision by the linesman. If he's missed as many as he's scored then I would say that's on par with JB so far. I mean, you can't argue he's got a better track record. Beckford's held his own in the Premiership, I might add. He did ok with his 8 league goals, but I think getting bombed out after one season speaks volumes despite scoring a few goals. There have been plenty of one season wonders, if he was even that! Before last season started it was clear we needed another striker. When Beckford got off to a shocking start people called for another one for competition at least (I somewhat agreed). Asked for another striker, concerned about options maybe... saying we're ****ed and writing us off? Hmmm not sure.
Frost Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 It's perfectly clear that Beckford is not going to make a success of himself here. Why anyone continues to defend him is beyond me.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 If we goes we have to add another striker to our squad. However, Beckford has been shit for us, we all know it, and I doubt he'll improve this season.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 If we goes we have to add another striker to our squad. Deals going through thick & fast tonight it looks like. Not really sure what REALISTIC options there would be left for us. I hope to **** there's a good ending to all this.

Mark_w Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 If we goes we have to add another striker to our squad. No we don't. Vardy - £1,000,000 signing, seems capable of getting goals, has started pretty well. Had to fend off competition from our Championship rivals to sign him. Nugent - Our top scorer last year. Waghorn - Has a record of around 1 in 3.5 games under Pearson, not too shabby. Schlupp - Did well in League One deserves a chance to impress in the Championship. Futacs - Should be a good option as a target man, seems more than capable of holding the ball up when I've seen him. That's more than good enough, especially when if we need to we can bring in an option on loan, but for now I'd personally be happy with us continuing with those 5 options.
lcfcsnow Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Schlupp - Did well in League One deserves a chance to impress in the Championship. What use is a striker who can't shoot? Have you seen his shooting pre match? It's up there with Dyer's and Waghorns.
Babylon Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Do you understand calibre ? Are you saying Beckford is the diameter of a gun barrel?
Mark_w Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 What use is a striker who can't shoot? Have you seen his shooting pre match? It's up there with Dyer's and Waghorns. Waghorn who can't shoot but previously got 13 goals in the Championship. The warm up really means nothing, when I say Schlupp deserves a chance, I mean playing football matches, not a few shots pre-match.
Jaspa Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Are you saying Beckford is the diameter of a gun barrel? Definition for calibre: Web definitions: quality: a degree or grade of excellence or worth; "the quality of students has risen"; "an executive of low caliber". You must understand what I mean tho, c'mon
Happy Fox Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 Good luck to Beckford at Huddersfield, hope he does well there obviously not at our expense Highlight for me is his hattrick against the F****t what a game that was

Guest Col city fan Posted 30 August 2012 Posted 30 August 2012 How can people do readily be apparently happy with selling Becks when over 70% of those voting on my excellent poll stated 'keep him he's great'?? Either my poll was shite ( very doubtful!) or we have some amazingly fickle fans around these here parts!!??
