Beckford to Huddersfield extended to End of Season

Recommended Posts

Yeah and we all wondered why Moyes at Everton let him go ? he was not a last minute signing for nothing. I bet Everton could not believe their luck when Sventhrift offered that kind of silly money for a player who was never going to be in their long or short term plans. Still it's Huddersfield's turn to be took to the cleaners.

Glad to see the back of him, hopefully for good.

His work-rate was pisspoor from the start, only looked interested every now and again, bad attitude? I don't know...but we look a much better team without him imo.

People saying where are the goals going to come from etc... the loan window is still open and Nugent/Vardy are more than capable.

The debate Huddersfield fans are having about

Beckford seems remarkably similar to what I have read on here.

Comments such as, we need to play to his strengths, he doesn't work if things are not going

his way, at some point he will score a shed-load for us, all seem horribly familiar!

Apparently he got some stick from the stands too.

I think Beckford's reputation precedes him he

seems unable to live up to it.

I think the stick will be because he's Leeds through and through

Well, I can see it is still not time to change my sig.

I have just read through this thread, and there are a few points I would like to make:

1) Beckford being at Huddersfield will not affect our promotion chances, like DJ Campbell didn't. What will affect them is how we perform in our next 30 odd games, what Beckford, Huddersfield or anyone else does will not, especially this season when the Championship is proving to be so open, and nobody has yet put their stamp on it. The only way Beckford will affect our promotion chances is if he returns to the club.

2) He has not been good for us, I wouldn't say he has been awful, but he has been inconsistent, and in turn unreliable, I am basing this on his performances on the pitch, his attitude and ego have been questioned, but that is irrelevant, what matters to me is how he performs on match day. Vardy, and Waghorn too, may not be as talented as Beckford clearly is, on his day, but you know what you will get with them and that gives everyone else confidence in them. With Beckford it was impossible to know which Beckford would turn up, and when the bad Becks turns up, you know you are going to be in for a long day of conceding possession cheaply and being under a lot of pressure, until he is dragged off at half time.

When the good Becks turns up you know that you have a matchwinner up front and that is great.

3) Beckford's goals to game ratio doesn't concern me, 9 or 15 or whatever, yes goals win games and yes strikers score goals, but there is a lot more to being a good footballer and a member of a team, and that is what concerns me is his inconsistency and lack of contribution to the rest of the team.

4) I see no reason why Beckford won't do well at Huddersfield, but I would expect it to take a few games to find his form, the question is whether the fans will be patient, I expect Grayson to be as he has managed him when he was at his best, but the fans have already started to question his ability. I want him to do well, for the reasons mentioned before, and because he I do think he is a player with a lot of talent, but at the moment it is not working for him at Leicester, and for that reason I'm not fussed that he won't be on the bench for the foreseeable future.

Why oh why did we put a clause in Beckford's contract so he's ineligible to play against us? I'd have felt far safer with him on the pitch.

You still don't give a blind man a gun to shoot at you.

But what if by not giving the blind man the gun you're ensuring a better marksman can take a pop instead?

If they had better marksman they wouldn't want him in the first place.

Super post IMO.

Sums up my feelings spot on..

Even if he has sacrificed 20% of his wages, if Hudds are still paying the rest he must easily be their highest earner. I've heard rumours he was on as much as £35,000 a week here.

Is. It's only a loan!

If Beckford is prepared to take a 20% it shows how willing he is to prove himself, not sure why he doesn't want to prove himself here though it's not like Pearson isn't willing to give him a chance he started the season up front with Vardy when many others would of picked Nugent

It explains why it fell through originally too, surprised that we weren't willing to pay some of his wages though, an 80/20 split wouldn't have been a bad deal as opposed to Beckford sitting here not playing and us paying 100% of his wages.

Credit to Beckford though if true.

I like the part where they think he'll start scoring for fun any day now, cool story bro

At least it's not just LCFC fans who ignore his form for the year just gone.

'Brand Beckford' I fear has had many fooled.

Myself included at times I must admit.

I was fooled I believed he would score goals but it seems he is just like Yakubu but without the goals. The goals will never come, he is possibly one of the most overrated players in the division.

If not the most overrated, I've never known so much hype and blind faith surrounding such an average player.

I don't feel that my faith in him coming good was blind or misguided .... I still think he will. Looks like a quality footballer looking for a bit of fitness and form to me (and possibly a manager that inspires him).

He reminds me a little of Stan Collymore (no where near as good) - seems to need alot of management to get the best out of him, maybe a fragile character, but has the raw materials physically to really shine if someone manages to inspire him.

Sounds like Waghorn for the last couple of seasons doesn't it?
