Keane extends Loan - and again to End of Season

Recommended Posts

The teenage defender will now remain with the npower Championship promotion chasers until at least the end of January.

After suffering a hamstring injury on his debut for Nigel Pearson's side at the start of November, Keane returned to the Foxes' starting line-up in impressive fashion during the 6-1 hammering of Huddersfield on New Year's Day.

The promising centre-back, 19, will be available for Leicester's away league trips to Bristol City and Cardiff during January, along with the home games against Middlesbrough and Wolves.

He is also eligible to play in the FA Cup third-round tie against Burton at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City have extended the loan of teenage defender Michael Keane for the rest of the season.

Keane's loan from Manchester United was due to finish after Thursday's Championshiplb_icon1.png clash with Wolves.

However, Pearson said they had come to a verbal agreement with United for the 19-year-old centre-back to remain with City during the remainder of their promotion push. The deal will be officially confirmed next week.

"He will be here until the end of the season and we are pleased we can extend it," he said.

"He has done well for us and he has playedlb_icon1.png well. This is a good chance for him to get more league experience."

Keane initially joined City on loan with midfielder Jesse Lingard, in November, but was injured early on in his debut at Bolton.

He returned to United for treatment but, after both players'lb_icon1.png loans were extended to January 2, with Keane's loan extended further until the end of this month, he returned to City's starting line-up for the 6-1 drubbing of Huddersfield, who City face in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow.

With Zak Whitbread and Sean St Ledger out injured, Keane has been an ever-present since.

Keane had previously expressed his desire to remain with City for the season.

"I think this team has the potential to get promoted and I would like to play a part in that," he told the Mercury.

"It would be a great experience if I stay."

In fairness though, he should the same frailties that Moore showed when he played at centre back, getting turned too easily and allowing strikers to back into him. Still, I am very happy with this as he looks a cracking centre half.

Very good player already. Future Man U and England CB unless injury strikes I'd say. Glad we've got him for the rest of the season and would be great if we got promoted and got him on loan again so he could have prem experience. Doubt a permanent would be possible no matter which league we're in come the end of the season but you never know, football is a crazy game.

Agree he doesn't panic, just thought his positioning wasn't always great and he nearly got caught a few times trying to play offside.

As I've said, not seen much of him - I'm just going by one game so can't really judge him properly.

He's got good reviews in his other games and we do need the cover while SSL and Whitbread are out.
