You know as opposed to how we've looked under every other manager we've had for the last decade. If you're not willing to have a sensible discussion about how his demeanour may have altered and insist on dealing with nothing more than league position, then that's a very poor defence of Pearson. You are comparing Pearson pt.1 who took us to 5th in the Championship the year after winning promotion from League One and on a limited budget; with Pearson pt.2 who has spent eighteen months at the club, inherited the most expensive side in the league's history, spent over 6m on it, was expected by every neutral pundit you could find to finish in the top two, and took us to 5th in the Championship. Oh, and the season's not finished and they're on their worst losing run in over a year. My suggestion is that expectations are different this time and he might benefit from looking back at his career, and how he has dealt with things differently in the past, because that may help him take the side to the next level. Your suggestion is that we're 5th now, we were 5th then, it was great then so it's great now and nothing else should come into consideration. I don't want to see him fired, but that sort of counter-argument to the boo boys doesn't really do him any favours.

And whilst the side he inherited was incredibly expensive, it was also average at best. spent over 6m on it Having sold many of the players, in that expensive average squad. Oh, and the season's not finished and they're on their worst losing run in over a year. We've lost one game in a row. If that was our worst losing run in over a year, we'd be laughing.
iancognito Posted 9 March 2013 Posted 9 March 2013 When we're losing everything gets noticed - who's in the stand, players looking like they're not up for it, comments managers make in interviews, staff not being at training or a member of the board at the training ground etc etc. Win a couple of games and Nigel Adkins being at the game wouldn't mean a thing, he'd be there with the 20 or so other scouts & managers all keeping an eye on football in general. Pearson being off at Stringer would be Stringer asking the same inane questions but instead it's Pearson's fault. We just have this element in our fans who shit-stir, boo but don't sing and are all too quick to ring a phone-in and whinge but go strangely quiet when we're on a run.

He over-achieved - so now we've established that, even based purely on an analysis of league position, he did better last time than he's doing this time. You have admitted that the two sets of circumstances are different. Now we're getting somewhere, even if you wish to be pedantic about whether or not we can call a run of eight games in which we lose five of them (and only win one) a losing run or not. As for selling many of the players: Loans out and contracts expiring or being terminated by mutual consent don't constitute a 'sale', so the sales you're referring to must be Mills, Bamba and Peltier, unless I'm missing one out. Pearson's full spending, based on reported amounts, is 6.5m, and those three must have raised - what - 1.5 at best? So that's still a substantial net spending by Championship standards. And it's not like he's not benefiting from the generous outlay (be it on wages or transfer fees) under Sven and Sousa. St. Ledger, Schmeichel and Nugent played today, while Konchesky has remained a fixture and Waghorn a squad regular.

Get it done top! what a tw@ He's absolutely "devastated"... yeah get him in he'll be in the right frame of mind to plot a promotion run when he's been plotting a relegation battle for months. Not to mention he's most likely still being paid by Reading for quite a few months after the point of being sacked as usually the case.

Wonder how many Reading fans wanted him out at that point, or did they just support him? It just seems like if we don't win every game, you all want Pearson out. Get a grip ffs it's annoying me now. Pearson is the only manager to have given us sucess in the last five years, he had a massive job on to clear up Sven's mess.

A man who didn't win promotion during his first full season at Reading but instead built a very good base to win promotion in his second full season... to come in for a 10 game sprint to the finish line? Although nothing would surprise me, but on what basis does his past record coupled with his probable frame of mind make him suitable for a situation like this? Also having been given the boot by new foreign owners, if NP was to be sacked with so few games to go I wouldn't have thought he or any sane person would touch us with a barge pole especially with such difficult to achieve financial restrictions next season where our past spending will still cause problems.
