Uncle Albert Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 so why didnt they sign one.... Is that a cheap attempt at being funny? Good move for Cabaye, at 28 he knows this is probably his last chance to go and play at an elite club, can play in the Champions League, will win the French Ligue 1 and will confirm his place in the France squad for the World Cup and probably in their starting eleven. Newcastle have got good money for him as well, would like to see them use it well if Mike Ashley allows them too.

From what Pardew has said they're only bringing in one player, a striker possibly Luuk De Jong. Obviously they've got good money for Cabaye, but they don't seem to be looking to replace him, and he's really the heart of that team. Apparently Sissoko is going to play his role tonight. As much as Sissoko is a decent player, he's more power and energy, he doesn't have the ability to dictate a game like Cabaye.
Langston Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I don't catch anywhere near enough of the Bundesliga as I should, is De Jong worthy of the praise / hype being spouted?

Yeah can see why he won't be happy, but you can't really replace a player of Cabaye's quality in this transfer window.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Great deal for Newcastle if you ask me. An OK player made to look better in an ordinary side.
MC Prussian Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I don't catch anywhere near enough of the Bundesliga as I should, is De Jong worthy of the praise / hype being spouted? Apparently, he just didn't fit in at Gladbach and had little chance in Favre's system. He wasn't happy with his role (sitting on the bench most of the time), the manager cared little, but some fans say De Jong never really tried to live up to his promise in Germany. It just wouldn't work out, now they don't seem as if they're really going to miss him.
Jimothy Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Yeah can see why he won't be happy, but you can't really replace a player of Cabaye's quality in this transfer window. Oh yeah I think he knows they won't get another player of Cabaye's quality this month, I think he just wants a passer in midfield. None of the other midfielders really put a foot on the ball and play it.
Jimothy Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Great deal for Newcastle if you ask me. An OK player made to look better in an ordinary side. He's the player that makes things happen for them. He's better than ok. But then you're the one who thinks Koscielny and Mertesacker, a centre back pairing who've never lost a game they've played 90 minutes together in in the league, are a shit pairing.

I'm not in the habit of lauding players who have 2 half decent games, everyone has to be world class these days, it's tragic.
Jimothy Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Nobody has said he's world class. He is however very good and was an integral part of the Newcastle side. He'll be hugely missed by them.
AKCJ Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Watching an OGS interview on SSN. It always surprises me how well spoken he is and how confident he comes across in interviews. I always thought he'd be quite shy.

Uncle Albert Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Cabaye had 2 half decent games for Newcastle?
Dan Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I'd hate to be a Newcastle fan. They've absolutely zero ambition.
MC Prussian Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Sunderland are apparently close to signing Argentine striker Ignacio Scocco from Brazilian outfit Internacional (Porto Alegre). http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25933649
Uncle Albert Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 We were absolutely fantastic, could of been 7. Sturridge, Suarez and Sterling was fantastic but the Man of the Match was Steven Gerrard, what a performance that was. GET IN THERE!
Corky Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Should we go up, Palace should give us plenty of encouragement. Another win.
StanSP Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Should we go up, Palace should give us plenty of encouragement. Another win. Pulis has really turned things around there. Fair play.
Fox92 Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Knew Stevie would play a part in todays game. Always turned up for the big games. Surprised he didn't get sent off! Good win for Liverpool. Didn't expect them to get 4.
Uncle Albert Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Everton forgot to show up Nah, they were just out played in every department.

Didn't expect them to get 4. Never write Steven Gerrard off, I tweeted an hour before the game about tonight being the night where he makes amends for some poor performances, he just knows how to do it v them lot, especially under the floodlights. It will be a travesty if Jordan Henderson isn't on the plane to Brazil.
Bert Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 United will finish above Everton. Glad they've been brought down a peg or two. The way some of them are going on you'd think they're gonna win the league.
Leicesterpool Posted 29 January 2014 Posted 29 January 2014 Everton forgot to show up Yeah thought it was going to be a tighter evening, this result really could have a knock on an after affect for the rest of the season.
